For the first time ever, the Lamborghini EV is arriving later than previously told. here's why

  • The Lamborghini Lanzador Concept EV was unveiled in 2023, but the production version is now arriving a year after the initially announced date.
Lamborghini's all-electric Lanzador is touted as an extremely powerful machine with zero tailpipe emissions.

It has been known for a long time that a Lamborghini electric supercar is coming. But while the Italians had previously confirmed an unveiling in 2028, the company's top boss has now said the showcase has now been pushed back a year. The Lamborghini Lanzador Concept EV version was previously showcased in 2023 and the production version will be based on it.

The first-ever Lamborghini EV or electric vehicle is one of the most anticipated unveilings of the decade and while purists continue to argue against the idea, the march of battery-powered mobility options has included supercars as well. It was never about 'if' but 'when' and when Lamborghini confirmed plans to go electric, there was a lot of excitement in the automotive world about the decision. However according to Reuters, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has said that unveiling plans have been moved to 2029.

Also Read: With Lanzador EV, Lamborghini is prioritizing crossovers over sedans

Winkelmann explained that the reason for pushing back the unveiling timeline is to ensure that the market is ready for a Lamborghini EV. He reportedly said, “We don't think 2029 will be too late for electric cars. We don't think, in our segment, the market will be ready in 2025 or 2026.”

lamborghini hybrid vs electrics

Lamborghini is famous for building some of the most powerful sports cars in the world since the 1960s. But when it launched its first SUV, skeptics suspected a change in strategy. But the Lamborghini Urus has been a big hit, propelling the Italian supercar maker to record sales and profits. There is now a Lamborghini Urus Hybrid as well as a Lamborghini Temerario which is powered by a V8 twin-turbo engine with three electric motors. The Lamborghini Revuelto plug-in hybrid has also been a hot favorite since its launch in 2023.

While Lamborghini has underlined its commitment to hybrid technology, there are also plans to go fully electric. And Lanzador is a march towards this ultimate objective.

The Lamborghini Lanzadore Concept showcased last year is a grand tourer with a 2+2 seating arrangement. It has a high-power electric motor on each axle which means it will have permanent all-wheel drive. The EV will feature e-torque vectoring on the rear axle Lamborghini says the maximum power output will be over one megawatt which is around 1,340 bhp. It has also been confirmed that the Lanzador will come with Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) which is essentially a driving dynamics control system. There will be multiple sensors and actuators that will be integrated into the system that ensures precise driving behavior.

Range Rover Autobiography LWB: What the ₹56 lakh price drop means for the king of SUVs

Range Rover Autobiography LWB: What the ₹56 lakh price drop means for the king of SUVs

The Range Rover Autobiography LWB or Long Wheelbase plays in a league of its own. In the streets of posh colonies of South Delhi, where luxury cars are a dime a dozen, where even its smaller siblings like the Velar, Sport or Evoque don't always draw a second glance, this gentle giant gets envious glances. Managing the Range Rover within city limits is clearly not easy – it is 5,200 mm long and 2,200 mm wide. But that's like living in a palace and worrying about open spaces. Leave the worries to the property managers or in this case the driver.

Range Rover Autobiography in VIP Lane

Range Rover HSE LWB priced now 2.36 crores while Range Rover Autobiography is ₹2.60 crore (before taxes).

Unconfirmed surveys have revealed that there are no Range Rovers in India that are actually owner driven. And yet this flagship has a lot to offer for the man sitting behind the wheel charged with piloting a three-tonne warship.

You'd be crazy to expect a spirited drive from this SUV. But the three-litre straight-six turbocharged petrol motor under the hood does a remarkably good job of giving the Range Rover LWB a confident drive. Around 394 bhp and 550 Nm of torque are on offer and while not being sporty, the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in six seconds, which is something to appreciate when it comes to power. However for the most part, that order will not be placed.

range rover autobiography
The Range Rover Autobiography is completely at home on open and straight stretches like this, with triple-digit speeds arriving quite easily.

Driving the Range Rover Autobiography LWB around Delhi requires a fair amount of adjustment, even if one is more accustomed to driving. Certainly doesn't help bikers trying to get a look. But after the initial phase, the true character of the vehicle begins to become apparent. Linear acceleration, quick gear shifts and a fairly manageable steering all combine to help enhance the feel. Don't just go by mileage. Not with air conditioning anyway.

range rover autobiography
Standing on huge 22-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, the Range Rover Autobiography features electronic air suspension and an open differential with torque vectoring by braking.

However the real strength of this machine comes out in the clear and open parts. Once again, it won't zip, zap, or zoom really fast. Instead, the confident progress towards three-digit speeds and beyond is pleasantly reassuring, while the SUV remains firmly planted through it all. Even turns and turns at moderate speeds are negotiated well – which is important considering the height and dimensions of the model.

Range Rover Autobiography: designed for the rich

range rover autobiography
The Range Rover Autobiography is a five-seat SUV with acres of space for passengers in the rear.

Driving a Range Rover is an experience but to be honest, it is a vehicle that is tailor-made for commuters. A Meridian sound system with 35 speakers, a dedicated 11.4-inch touchscreen display for rear seat passengers, a high-class air-purification system, durable fabrics on the upholstery – this SUV comes fully loaded. Of course, there are plenty of unique options that can set each unit apart from the others.

range rover autobiography
The SUV features 24-way heated and cooled, massage electric front seats and executive class rear seats.

But beyond the gadgets and gizmos lies the beauty of simple yet luxurious opulence. Roll up the electronically-controlled blinds and the Range Rover continues to captivate you and your senses in a world that is a stark contrast to the world outside. Even while on the move, this SUV is determined to minimize every bump, every brake and every turn.

At the end of it all, as mentioned, the Range Rover is playing in a league of its own. You get what you pay for and in this case, it is 2.60 crores before taxes. Still not exactly pocket change for the creamy layer, the Range Rover Autobiography offers an experience that few other rivals can.

Porsche Taycan EV recalled in India due to faulty battery module

Porsche Taycan EV recalled in India due to faulty battery module

  • The Porsche Taycan is the brand's first electric car, which is also on sale in India.
The Porsche Taycan is the brand's first electric car, which is also on sale in India.

The Porsche Taycan is one of the most interesting electric luxury cars in India. Porsche India has issued a voluntary recall for the Taycan EV in the country. More than 176 units of the Porsche Taycan electric sedan have been recalled by the German performance carmaker due to a possible defect in the battery cells or modules.

Porsche Taycan EVs manufactured between October 21, 2019 and March 4, 2024 are the potentially affected electric cars that the auto company has recalled. Porsche has discovered that Taycan EVs produced in the above period may have a faulty battery module supplier system. This fault may result in a short circuit within the battery module and may even result in a fire in the electric vehicle following thermal throttling.

The latest recall for the Porsche Taycan EV comes as part of a larger recall for the electric car spanning global markets. Globally, more than 27,500 units of the Porsche Taycan EV have been recalled in October, which were built between the above periods. A recall was issued in the international market in October 2024. The recall was issued in conjunction with sister brands' Audi's recall involving the Audi e-tron GT and Audi RS e-tron GT models, produced from 2022 to 2024. Audi electric cars have been recalled due to a battery problem that could result in fire.

Porsche Taycan EV: This is not the first recall

This is not the first time that the Porsche Taycan EV has faced problems. Earlier, in June this year, the carmaker had recalled every single Taycan globally due to possible brake failure. The automaker said the affected Taycan EV will display a warning light on the dashboard. The carmaker did not disclose the exact number of Taycan EVs affected by the recall at the time, but the recall affected more than 150,000 units of the EV worldwide. The automaker said there was an issue related to the front brake hoses, with a small number of Taycan EVs developing cracks that could cause brake fluid to leak, reducing brake pressure and system effectiveness.

Mega global survey reveals 92% of EV owners will not switch to the engine again. What about India?

  • More than 23,000 EV owners across 18 countries were surveyed and the majority in India acknowledged range-related concerns.
File photos have been used for representational purpose. (AFP)

The rise and proliferation of electric vehicles (EVs) is inevitable and the popularity of such models is partly being driven by existing owners who are unwilling to go back to conventional vehicles powered mostly by engines. This is the conclusion of a global survey covering nearly 23,000 EV owners in 18 countries, including India.

Titled the Global EV Driver Survey 2024 and conducted by a grassroots non-profit network of 64 national electric vehicle driver associations called the Global EV Alliance, the survey found that 97 percent of respondents said they were 'very satisfied' with their EV . When asked if they would have to replace their existing EV one day, 92 percent said they would do so with another EV and four percent said it would be a plug-in hybrid. Only one percent said their next car would be a petrol or diesel-powered model.

The newly launched third generation Honda Amaze shares many features with its sibling Honda City.

The sub-four meter compact sedan segment in the Indian passenger vehicle market has been witnessing declining sales numbers and declining market share over the past few years due to the steady rise in demand for SUVs and crossovers. However, despite consumers' declining interest in the segment, the sub-compact sedan segment suddenly became the talk of the town again with the launch of two new generation models. While Maruti Suzuki launched the fourth generation Maruti Suzuki Dezire, Honda Cars India launched the third generation Honda Amaze.

The new generation Honda Amaze has been completely redesigned with changes to the exterior and interior. The sedan now looks similar to its bigger sibling, the Honda City sedan. Apart from giving the new Amaze Ciy-influenced styling, Honda has also equipped it with a number of new features that give it an upmarket vibe.

Here's a quick look at the key features that the new generation Honda Amaze shares with the Honda City.

lanewatch camera

One of the key features of the new Honda Amaze is the LaneWatch camera, which is fitted below the left ORVM. This is the same LaneWatch camera unit that also comes in the Honda City. This camera provides a live feed when the indicator on the left is on. The camera and its feed are helpful when overtaking as they help the driver avoid potential blind spots.

ADAS

One major feature added to the new Amaze is the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). With this, Honda Amaze becomes the most affordable car in India and also the only car in the sub-compact sedan segment to offer this feature. The ADAS suite on the new Honda Amaze includes features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and collision mitigation system.

8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system

Both the third-generation Honda Amaze and Honda City are offered with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The second generation Honda Amaze was equipped with a small 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, but with the new generation model, the sedan gets a larger display.

7.0-inch semi-digital instrument cluster

The previous generation Honda Amaze had analog dials with a multi-info display in its instrument cluster. However, the new generation Honda Amaze gets a 7.0-inch semi-digital instrument cluster. This is the same unit that is also offered in the Honda City, which provides additional vehicle information along with customization.

wireless phone charger

The 2024 Honda Amaze gets a wireless phone charger, which, along with a USB port, provides additional convenience to the occupants. Both the Honda City and the new Honda Amaze have additional 12V power sockets in the front and rear seat rows.

VW, unions hold 'constructive' talks, but no solution in sight

VW, unions hold 'constructive' talks, but no solution in sight

“After today's round it is clear that we are still far from a solution,” Volkswagen's chief negotiator Arne Mieswinkel said after more than seven hours of talks.

But Labor representative Thorsten Groeger said it was the first time that talks had taken place in a “constructive environment” and that they were ready to return to the negotiating table on 16 December.

Earlier in the day, Groeger said that unless Monday's talks take an amicable approach, unions see no more room for negotiations this year and that they will escalate the strike to unprecedented levels in 2025.

Also read: BMW expects flat sales in Mexico in 2025 on Trump tariffs

Still, unions remained adamant in saying they would refuse to close the plant, while the carmaker said it could not be ruled out, showing that the two parties are still far apart.

VW employees shut down equipment on Monday at nine German sites that are at risk, while thousands of workers marched waving flags and blowing whistles at a intersection in Wolfsburg, where the carmaker is headquartered, to hear union leaders .

The latest talks, which initially began in September, come as Europe's biggest carmaker looks for ways to drastically cut costs in Germany to better compete with cheaper Asian rivals that have entered its home market. Is searching.

The VW crisis comes at a time of uncertainty and political turmoil in Europe's largest economy, as well as widespread turmoil among the region's automakers. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is trailing in the polls ahead of the snap election, warned VW to close factories over the weekend.

The IG Metall union said some 68,000 workers on early and middle shifts in Wolfsburg went on strike for four hours, with late and night shifts still continuing.

Also read: Tesla aims to launch robotaxi with human backup. but there is a problem

These strikes are already more widespread than the last round of major industrial action at VW in 2018, when more than 50,000 workers went on a so-called warning strike over pay at six sites.

IG Metall said there have never been any actual walkouts lasting 24 hours or more, beyond so-called “warning strikes”, which are marked in advance and carried out for limited periods.

The workers, who reject any cut in wages or plant closure, may eventually increase pressure on VW by holding a 24-hour strike and even an open strike.

In the 1970s, wage disputes would be settled at the last minute the night before a strike began.

cost cutting

Volkswagen says it needs to cut capacity and wages as demand for cars in Europe has fallen while costs in Germany have made it impossible to compete with new rivals.

“We need to reduce costs, reduce excess capacity,” Mieswinkel said ahead of the talks, which were taking place at the Volkswagen Arena where the VfL Wolfsburg Bundesliga team plays its football.

Thousands gathered, whistling, chanting slogans, criticizing management and chanting “Enough now! B2 is ready for battle!” from different parts of the company. Like there were signs.

CEO Oliver Blume last week defended Volkswagen Group's decisions in a rapidly changing environment, saying management cannot operate “in a fantasy world.”

Groeger urged VW to move toward a union position, warning Monday morning that the talks had destroyed confidence in the company among workers.

Also read: BYD on track to hit top sales target by 2024 and overtake Ford, Honda globally

“The board's behavior threatens to damage the VW brand and send the share price to rock bottom. This is the board's responsibility,” he said.

Volkswagen's stock is among the worst performers among European carmakers, falling nearly 25 percent this year.

Although the full impact of the strikes was not immediately clear, the union has said that several hundred cars were not built at the Wolfsburg plant alone as a result of the first round.

Automakers face increasing competition from China, where EV maker BYD recently said it hired nearly 200,000 new workers in car and component manufacturing between August and October.

If you have an electric vehicle, you should be aware of the risks that can result in an EV fire. Here are some simple but useful tips that you should follow to prevent your electric vehicle from catching fire. (symbolic image)

Electric vehicles catching fire is nothing new and the latest addition to the list of EV fires is the Bajaj Chetak incident that took place in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra last week. A Bajaj Chetak electric scooter was found spewing smoke, possibly caused by a fire in the EV's battery pack. Bajaj Auto has started investigating the matter. The incident has reignited concerns about fire hazards associated with electric vehicles.

For decades, internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicles running on combustible fuels such as petrol and diesel have been known to be vulnerable to fire incidents. However, with the rapid rise of electric vehicles over the past few years, the vulnerabilities of electric vehicles to fire incidents have come to light. Yes, electric vehicles are not immune from fire incidents, even if they do not run on petrol or diesel.

Also Read: Upcoming Cars in India

Fires in electric vehicles are not common, but they attract a lot of attention when they do happen. The main cause of EV fires is the high energy concentration in the battery pack, high voltage battery packs hold a lot of energy in a small area. If the battery pack is impacted, it can cause a short circuit inside, triggering a chain of events called thermal runaway, which results in the battery pack generating heat beyond its capacity, causing a fire. About 95 percent of electric vehicle battery fires are classified as ignition fires, while the remaining five percent result from vapor cloud explosions.

Various factors, such as physical damage due to accidents, manufacturing defects, battery failure, repair, arson, external fire, or overheating, can result in electric vehicle battery fire.

If you have an electric vehicle, you should be aware of the risks that can result in an EV fire. Here are some simple but useful tips that you should follow to prevent your electric vehicle from catching fire.

Wait for the EV to cool down before charging

It is not advisable to plug in an electric vehicle for charging immediately after finishing a trip, as lithium-ion cells for EVs are still hot when returned from the trip. After you finish your trip, make sure to let the battery cool down a bit before putting it back to charge. This can effectively cool the battery pack of the electric vehicle and protect the EV from fire.

avoid exposure to heat

Avoiding exposure to heat is a highly effective way to reduce the risk of fire in an electric vehicle. Prolonged exposure to the sun can be harmful to electric vehicles, as the heat from the sun's rays can trigger exothermic reactions and increase the heat inside the electric vehicle. Therefore, it is always advisable to avoid parking the EV in direct sunlight. If covered parking is not available, at least try to find shade.

Charge in an area with shade and proper ventilation

While charging, the lithium-ion battery pack in an electric vehicle heats up. Charging an EV in humid weather conditions can cause problems as it results in the formation of air and swelling of some of the battery cells. Therefore, it is recommended to charge the EV in a shady place and the charging area should have proper ventilation.

Driving habits matter

A driver's driving habits impact not only fuel efficiency but also the health of the vehicle. Careless driving on rough terrain can have a negative impact on the battery pack. Additionally, driving over nails, sharp stones, or other sharp objects may damage the battery pack. Just because you have a cool electric SUV doesn't mean you can take it offroading.

Use genuine OEM-provided charger

Using the correct charger is an important factor in ensuring the thermal safety of an electric vehicle. Buying an EV charger from the aftermarket can be disastrous as it may not be compatible and safe enough to work with your electric vehicle. Therefore, it is always recommended to use the genuine charger provided by the OEM.

Avoid draining out or overcharging

The battery pack is the most important component of an electric vehicle. Additionally, most fires in EVs originate from batteries. Experts recommend that the charge level of an EV battery should be between 20 to 80 percent. Make sure that the battery charge level does not drain completely as well as it is overcharged.

Are you going on a road trip in your EV? 5 key mechanical checks you should do

Are you going on a road trip in your EV? 5 key mechanical checks you should do

  • Here are five mechanical checks you can do before embarking on a road trip on an EV.
Tata Nexon EV is being charged fast with static fast charger.

As electric vehicles (EVs) gain popularity, long distance travel is becoming increasingly possible as the number of fast charging stations continues to increase. However, before setting out on an important trip, it is important to ensure that your EV is in optimal condition. This will reduce the chances of you getting stuck because your vehicle broke down for some reason. Here are five key mechanical checks that you can easily perform to reduce the chances of breakdown:

battery health assessment

Charge Capacity: Make sure that your battery is fully charged before the journey and that it can maintain the required range and operate at fuel efficiency.

Cell balancing: An electric vehicle usually automatically balances its cells during the end of its charging process. So, all you need to do is charge your vehicle up to 100 percent and the cells should balance automatically. This will help improve the performance and longevity of the battery pack and cells.

(Read more: Should you opt for RSA? And which spare parts are usually covered?)

Tire condition and pressure

Tread depth: Tires are one of the most important parts of a vehicle as they are the only thing that comes in contact between the vehicle and the road. Adequate depth is essential for optimal grip, especially on wet or slippery roads. So, make sure the tires have enough thread. Tires with uneven tread, bulges, blisters or sidewall damage should also be replaced.

Tire Pressure: Maintain recommended tire pressure to improve efficiency and handling.

Tire Alignment and Balancing: Proper alignment and balancing can have a significant impact on tire wear, fuel efficiency and the overall driving experience. It also helps reduce driver fatigue while driving in a straight line as the driver does not need to constantly apply force to keep the vehicle in a straight line.

brake system inspection

Brake pad thickness: Ensure adequate brake pad material to avoid sudden brake failure.

Brake fluid level: Check the brake fluid level and quality. If it is not at the optimum level it should be topped up.

Regenerative Braking System: Verify the functionality of the regenerative braking system, which helps save energy and reduces brake wear. It also helps in recharging the battery when going downhill and applying brakes. Regenerative braking usually works when the battery is below 80 percent.

(Read more: What to check before first car service)

cooling system performance

Coolant Level: Check coolant level in the electric motor and battery cooling systems. The purpose of the coolant is to ensure that the battery and electric motor do not overheat.

Charging port and cable inspection

Port condition: Check the charging port for any damage, corrosion or loose connections.

Cable Functionality: Test the charging cable to ensure that it is functioning properly and can provide the required charging speed.

By diligently performing these essential checks before a long EV trip, you can significantly enhance your driving experience, reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns and enjoy a safe and comfortable trip.

Mexico warns Trump that his heavy tariffs will harm the US economy

Mexico warns Trump that his heavy tariffs will harm the US economy

  • Mexico has warned that Trump's proposed 25% tariffs could eliminate 400,000 American jobs and raise pickup truck prices by as much as $3,000.
The Mexican economy minister said 40,000 workers would lose their jobs if Trump imposed 25 percent tariffs on Mexico and Canada. (AP)

Mass job losses and more expensive pickup trucks: This is what the massive tariffs Donald Trump is threatening to impose on its neighbor will mean for the US, according to Mexico's government.

Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard said during a news conference with President Claudia Sheinbaum on Wednesday that Trump's pledge to impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada would cost the US 400,000 jobs.

A veteran of confrontational North American trade negotiations during Trump's first administration, Ebrard gave a presentation on how a new round of levies would affect Mexico-US relations.

Also read: France, Germany, Sweden urge EU to avoid dependence on China on EV batteries

Ebrard said the new tariffs would mainly affect U.S. automotive companies operating in Mexico, including General Motors and Ford Motor Co., which produce 88% of pickup trucks sold in the U.S. “We estimate that the average price of these vehicles will increase by $3,000 per unit,” he said.

Mexico is beefing up its defenses against Trump's new tariff threats, Sheinbaum said, uniting a group of national businessmen at his daily press briefing. The government also plans to extend its trade agreement with the European Union and improve its commercial ties with Brazil, officials said.

On Tuesday, Sheinbaum suggested that Mexico could respond to the threat of tariffs with tariffs of its own, warning that the economic consequences would be severe. “The response to one tariff will be followed by another, and so on until we no longer put ordinary companies at risk,” the president said in his first response to Trump's threats.

The US president-elect is vowing to impose 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico until fentanyl and undocumented migrants stop flowing to US borders. Canada says it has plans to boost border security — and points to U.S. government data showing most of the problems come from Mexico.

Also read: Italy, Poland urge EU to give carmakers relief from carbon fines

Sheinbaum said Canada also needs Mexico and is confident the northern country will remain in the North American trade agreement that will be reviewed in 2026. He also said his government is in touch with Trump's transition team.

Mexico has become the US's largest trading partner, with the Mexican government estimating that trade between the neighbors now totals $800 billion annually.

Ebrard underlined the importance of improving trade relations between the US, Mexico and Canada, saying they were worth $1.8 trillion between January and September, and generate 30% of the world's GDP.

“If tariffs are imposed and we enter the process of increasing tariffs, who is going to be affected? All three countries,” Sheinbaum said. “We don't compete with each other, we complement each other.”

Neither carmaker has released any official statement regarding the emissions penalties they may face. Car manufacturers have urged the Center that it would be inappropriate to reconsider imposing the new CAFE norms on vehicles manufactured throughout the financial year. The new CAFE norms, set by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Union Power Ministry, were introduced in 2022 but were implemented from January last year. The Center has not yet released the CAFE norms report for FY 2022-23 and discussions are underway among stakeholders to get more clarity on the objections raised by carmakers.
