Hybrid engine, sunroof and ADAS! This 7-seater SUV is coming in a new avatar, will become the first choice of politicians

Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market. It is known for its strength, off-road capability and status symbol. Now the discussion of new generation (third generation) Fortuner in 2026 is in full swing. Recently spy photos have surfaced, in which the new Fortuner has been seen testing under cover. These spy shots show that the new model will come with a more aggressive and modern design.

According to several reports, a Fortuner based on the new Hilux (which is expected to launch in Thailand in November 2025) will also arrive soon. The launch in India is likely to take place in the second half of 2026, i.e. between April and November. Some sources say that the global debut could happen as early as 2026 and in India a little later, there is a strong expectation of the launch of the new Fortuner this year, but the official confirmation is not yet available. Let's take a look at the possible details.

possible design

The look of the new Fortuner will be more bold and muscular. The spy images reveal that the front grille will be large and mesh style with slim LED headlights and DRLs. The headlights will be sharper and angled. The body will look more upright and rugged in side profile with new alloy wheels, roof rails and stronger bumpers. New LED taillights, revised bootlid and dual exhaust tips can also be found in the rear. Overall, this design seems to be inspired by Hilux and Prado.

The cabin now looks quite upgraded. You will get a more premium feel compared to the old model. There will be features like better materials, soft-touch surfaces, a new dashboard, a larger touchscreen infotainment system (probably 12-14 inches), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster and multi-zone climate control. The seats will be more comfortable, ventilated front seats and 7-seater layout. Some reports talk about panoramic sunroof or large sunroof, which has now become a must in the Indian market.

Features and safety

The new Fortuner may come with advanced safety features like ADAS Level 2+. It will also be equipped with luxury features like 360-degree camera, wireless charging, audio system with large speakers, connected car technology (Toyota i-Connect) and powered/ventilated seats. For off-road, options like part-time 4×4, differential lock and multi-terrain select will remain. For safety, 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, VSC, hill assist, hill descent control and ISOFIX child seat mounts will be standard.

Engine and Performance

Major changes are expected in the powertrain. The old 2.8L diesel (201 bhp, 500 Nm) will remain updated, but will come with a mild hybrid (48V) system. This will give better mileage and performance. In some markets, the option of 2.4L or 2.0L turbo petrol engine (perhaps up to 300 hp) may be available. Hybrid variants are also possible, which will increase fuel efficiency. Transmission will have both 6-speed automatic and manual. As soon as it hits the market, it will compete directly with MG Majestor.
