New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country's leading passenger car company, has crossed the historic milestone of domestic sales of 3 crore units, becoming the first carmaker in India to do so.
Took 42 years to create history
This feat has been achieved in 42 years, which shows the dominance of Maruti Suzuki in the Indian passenger car market. The company completed its first crore in 28 years and 2 months, the second in 7 years and 5 months, and the third record in 6 years and 4 months. Among its large portfolio, Alto is the best-selling model with over 47 lakh units sold, followed by Wagon R (34 lakh units) and Swift (32 lakh units). Brezza and Franks are also included in the top 10 bestsellers.
First car launched on 14 December 1983
Maruti Suzuki's journey began on 14 December 1983, when it delivered its first car, the Maruti 800, which started India's automotive revolution. Today, the company offers over 170 variants across 19 models, available in different powertrain and transmission options.
