New Delhi. French car manufacturer Citroen has recently launched its car in a completely new segment in India. This is a car segment in which earlier only premium vehicles were available. But now the company has launched its new car and given the customers the option of a new model, on the other hand a new war has started in the market regarding this segment.

More than 50% of the cars sold in the market are sub-compact, while there is a competition going on among the companies to launch cars of this design. However, Citroen has done something different from all these, which proves that the company is preparing to compete with other companies in the market with complete planning.

Citroen's new coupe SUV
If you are wondering which car we are talking about, then let us tell you that here we are talking about the company's new coupe SUV Citroen Basalt. Citroen Basalt has direct competition with Tata Curve, but in the market this car also competes with vehicles like Honda Elevate, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The company has launched it at such a price that makes it the most practical car in its segment.

better car at lower price
Citroen Basalt has been launched in the Indian market at an ex-showroom price of only Rs 7.99 lakh. The price of its top model goes up to Rs 13.83 lakh. If seen from price point of view, it provides a better alternative to Creta and Seltos. Its price is also much lower than Tata Curve, which falls between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 19 lakh. Not only this, this car has also got a 4-star safety rating from BNCAP, which is better than many cars in this price segment.

The exterior is amazing
The design of the Citroen Basalt comes with sporty coupe styling and is somewhat reminiscent of the C3 Aircross. It is based on the same platform as the C3 Aircross, and its front profile is also quite similar to the C3 Aircross. Its front has X-shaped LED DRLs and LED projector headlamps, which provide a muscular look with its clamshell bonnet. Flip door handles, 16-inch alloy wheels, squared-off wheel arches and sloping roofline are provided on the side profile. At the rear, new LED taillamps with 3D effect, raked rear windscreen and silver skid plate on the bumper have been provided.

Interior and Features
The interior also has a glimpse of the C3 Aircross. It has a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Citroen Basalt includes new features like automatic climate control, wireless charging, LED headlamps, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, sliding front center armrest, winged rear headrest and adjustable under-thigh support. All these features have been provided for the first time in the segment.

Engine and Performance
There are two engine options available in Citroen Basalt. The first engine is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which generates 82 PS of power and 115 Nm of peak torque. The option of 5-speed manual gearbox is given with this engine. The company claims a mileage of up to 18 km per litre.

The second engine option is a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which offers 110 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque (6-speed manual transmission) or 205 Nm of torque (6-speed AT gearbox). The claimed mileage of this engine is 19.5 km per liter with manual transmission and 18.7 km per liter with AT gearbox. The company has started the delivery of this car from 31st October.
