The French carmaker is struggling with low sales in India.Basalt Coupe became the company's best performing car.579 units of Basalt sold in August 2024.
New Delhi. French carmaker Citroen's position in India has not been very strong so far. Looking at the sales figures, it seemed that the company might shut down its operations in the Indian market as its sales were continuously falling. But now the Basalt SUV (Citroen Basalt) has performed brilliantly, breathing new life into the company's sales. Its tremendous sales in August 2024 have taken the company's total sales figure past 1,200 units.
Two petrol engine options are given in Basalt. The first is a naturally aspirated 1.2 liter petrol engine, which gives 81 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. It is available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The second is a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine, which generates 108 bhp power and 195 Nm torque. It comes with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. In India, it competes with models like Tata Curve as well as Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. Now let's take a look at the company's sales report.
Citroen's sales were highest in August
The chart above shows Citroen's sales report for the last 6 months, from which it is clear that as soon as the Basalt SUV was launched, the company's sales jumped sharply. If we look at the report of August 2024 only, then it has been the highest sales month in the last six months. The biggest contribution to this sale is from the Basalt Coupe SUV.
The company's total sales stood at 1,275 units, of which the Basalt Coupe SUV alone sold 579 units. This is a clear indication of the sudden increase in the company's sales. It seems that Basalt has given a new direction to the company, because in the last five months, Citroen's sales were around 500 units only. But with the launch of Basalt, this figure has reached above 1,200 units.
What is the price?
This clearly shows that the Basalt SUV has given a boost to Citroen's sales. Now it will be interesting to see whether this surge is just a result of the launch of Basalt or whether the sales of the company's other cars will also grow at the same pace in the coming months.
Talking about Citroen Basalt, its price starts from Rs 7.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.83 lakh (ex-showroom).
