New Delhi. Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has set a new record in the mid-size SUV segment. The company's Creta SUV has achieved the highest annual sales of 2,00,000 units so far in the calendar year 2025. This means that on an average 550 Cretas are being sold every day, i.e. approximately 23 units every hour. Along with this, this SUV remains India's best-selling SUV from 2020 to 2025 with more than 34 percent market share.

10 years since launch
Celebrating ten years of its launch, Creta has registered a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 9 percent between 2016 and 2025, while many new companies also entered the market during this period. This includes Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Skoda Kushaq and other models. In the coming times, competition is going to become even tougher with the launch of vehicles like Renault Duster.

changing preferences of customers
According to information released by the South Korean automaker, there has been a change in customer preferences. While the number of first-time car buyers was 13 percent in 2020, it has increased to 32 percent in 2025. At the same time, the sales of variants with sunroof are more than 70 percent of the total sales. The contribution of diesel powertrain was 44 percent.

Biggest Annual Sale
Commenting on the achievement, HMIL Managing Director and CEO Designate Tarun Garg said, “Hyundai Creta has had an extraordinary journey in India and achieving the highest ever annual sales of over 2 lakh units is a moment of pride and recognition for all of us.” Describing Creta as a “trusted companion on every journey”, he attributed its success to customers and dealers.

Why is Creta popular?
A major reason for the popularity of Creta is its many options. Customers can choose from different engine options, transmission types and even electric models. This flexibility gives buyers the opportunity to choose a vehicle as per their needs, rather than changing their needs depending on the vehicle.

Engine, Performance, Range
Creta comes with three engine options: naturally aspirated petrol, turbo petrol and diesel. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard with naturally aspirated petrol and diesel engines. For automatic lovers, there is the option of IVT in petrol engines and torque converter automatic in diesel. At the same time, the turbo petrol engine is available only with dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Creta Electric comes with two battery pack options: 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh, with a claimed range of 420 km and 510 km respectively.
