Speaking about its entry into the highly competitive Indian electric mobility space, Horace Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro, said, “We are at the cusp of a dramatic change in the global urban transportation landscape, and with its more than 250 million mopeds and motorcycles India is well positioned to lead the shift to sustainable consumer and B2B transportation. The Gogoro CrossOver series embodies everything our brand has come to stand for and the new made-in-India CrossOver GX250 is optimized for riders in India with more seating space, greater storage and better ground clearance.”

While Gogoro’s first battery-swapping stations will be available in Delhi and Goa for B2B customers, it has announced expansion plans to roll out the service in Mumbai and Pune in the first half of 2024 with consumer availability in the second quarter of 2024.

The Gogoro CrossOver GX250 is the brand’s first made-in-India e-scooter and has been specifically adapted to suit the Indian customer’s needs. The company had run a pilot program in India previously and decided to integrate features as requested by the brand’s pilot riders.

The Gogoro CrossOver GX250 electric scooter offers a ground clearance of 176 mm, the highest ever on any model from the company. Power comes from a 2.5 kW (3.3 bhp) Direct Drive motor with a top speed of over 60 kmph. The company claims a range of 111 km on a single charge. Gogoro says the new frame increases the durability of the suspension system that can accommodate larger loads. It will come with 26 locking points with four cargo areas including a platform design headlight, foot, seat, and a rear cargo space. The rear seat can be flipped up or removed for additional cargo storage.

Luke further added, “Gogoro was uniquely created to introduce a mass market shift to sustainable energy in densely populated cities by establishing an intelligent battery-swapping ecosystem for vehicle refuelling that is safe, scalable and open. There has been significant demand in India for Gogoro battery swapping, Smartscooters and technologies and we are excited to be launching commercially with a variety of partners. On average, last-mile delivery riders ride more than six times the distance as consumer riders, so enabling these delivery riders to adopt smart sustainable electric transportation can have an accelerated impact on a city.”

Gogoro says the CrossOver GX250 will be the best alternative to gas-powered vehicles and will be well-suited to the specific market and industry needs in India. The company has already partnered with last-mile delivery companies like Zypp, as well as logistics fleets and taxi services to adopt its battery swapping and electric scooters. It is also working on establishing a shared mobility-as-a-service program.

Japan Auto Show 2023: Honda SC e: electric scooter concept unveiled with swappable batteries

Japan Auto Show 2023: Honda SC e: electric scooter concept unveiled with swappable batteries

Honda is working on a range of electric two-wheelers globally that will arrive in the next few years and the company previewed one such model at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show with the SC e: concept. The Honda SC e: electric scooter concept is positioned above the EM:1 electric scooter, also showcased in the production guise at the auto show, and hints at a more family-oriented offering.

By: HT Auto Desk
| Updated on: 02 Nov 2023, 18:04 PM

The Honda SC e: concept looks like a 125 cc equivalent electric scooter that could influence the future e-scooters from the manufacturer

The Honda SC e: looks like a more fleshed-out idea of an electric scooter and could be comparable to a 125 cc offering. The design language is modern yet appealing to a wider customer base with smoother lines, a contoured single-piece seat and a full-size pillion grab handle. The front apron houses the LED headlamp with the LED DRL that brings a signature element to the concept, while the 12-inch alloy wheels look nice and chunky with a perforated disc design. The turn indicators are finished in teal.

Also Read : Honda’s latest concept vehicle uses recycled acrylic resin

The SC e: concept draws power from a PMS mid-drive motor, while power will come from two Honda Mobile Power Pack e: battery packs. Each battery pack weighs 10 kg and will be placed under the seat. This leaves little room for practical under-seat storage space but will allow the flexibility to swap batteries and maximise productivity with the e-scooter. Honda does not confirm a range on the concept but it could offer a real-world range of about 100 km on a single charge. The top speed is likely to be around 70 kmph.

There’s no word on when the Honda SC e: concept will enter production. However, it will be interesting to see how much it will influence the electric scooters being designed for India. Honda 2Wheelers India has already announced its plans to introduce two electric scooters in the country by March 2024, one of which will use swappable batteries. The company is expected to bring an e-scooter for last-mile deliveries and one for private customers. The company is already setting up battery-swapping stations in India.

Ather 450S deliveries begin in India on World EV Day

Ather 450S deliveries begin in India on World EV Day

Ather Energy has commenced deliveries of 450S in the Indian market. The image of the delivery was shared by Tarun Mehta, Co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy. The 450S is the most affordable electric scooter in Ather’s lineup. The 450S is priced at 1.30 lakh ex-showroom. It competes against the Ola S1 Air in the Indian market.

By: HT Auto Desk
| Updated on: 09 Sep 2023, 17:44 PM

Cosmetically, the 450S looks quite similar to the Ather 450X

Ather started accepting bookings of the 450S back in June this year. The price of the scooter complies with the FAME 2 scheme. The customers can avail further benefits from respective states’ own electric vehicle policies. The design of the Ather 450S is identical to the 450X. However, there are some changes which have helped in dropping the costs.

Ather 450S comes equipped with a 3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that claims to offer 115 km of range on a single charge. Using home chargers, the battery pack can be charged up to 80 per cent in around six hours and 36 minutes while charging up to 100 per cent takes eight hours and 36 minutes.

The electric motor is capable of generating 7.24 bhp of peak power and 22 Nm of maximum torque. The 450S electric scooter can also run at a top speed of 90 kmph. Ather 450S offers three ride modes with the 450S which include Sport mode, Eco mode and Ride mode.

Watch: Ather 450S review: Worthy of its price tag?

Another big difference between the 450X and the 450S is the instrument cluster. The 450S uses a new coloured LCD instrument cluster. It still comes with features such as Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. But now, it uses MapMyIndia’s navigation system instead of Google Maps. Ather Energy has also added a joystick on the switch console that can be used to control the instrument cluster. Moreover, the reverse mode is simply a button. Earlier, the rider would need to swipe on the screen to get into the reverse mode.

Hero Electric will expand in the premium electric two-wheeler segment under the new A2B brand

Hero Electric says its upcoming range of premium electric two-wheelers will be tailored to withstand Indian road and climatic conditions. The upcoming electric model range also promises robust battery systems, integrated powertrains, and aesthetics that reflect the premium buyer sensibilities.

Speaking on entering the premium e-bike segment, Sohinder Gill, CEO – Hero Electric, said, “While the Hero Electric brand continues to be the bedrock of our basic E-mobility thrust, we intend to invest in new brands for specific market categories. We believe that differentiation is key to market dominance, and going forward we will enter categories under specialist brand entities to bring focus to the market segments they represent, complementing the Hero brand as a legacy player in the mass mobility segment.”

Hero Electric is bullish about the long-term growth of the electric vehicle segment even as short-term challenges hamper the e-two-wheeler space at large. The company has over 15 years of experience in retailing electric two-wheelers largely focussed on the sub 1 lakh entry segment.

“The Indian market is ripe for e-mobility exploration, and we are perfectly positioned to meet the emerging demands, including those from the premium segment. This tactical move aims to focus on our traditional turf with the Hero Electric brand while allowing us to break into newer segments as competition builds up in this sector.”

Hero Electric has not announced the launch timeline for the premium EVs under the A2B brand. The company also remains tight-lipped about its upcoming model range, whether these models will be indigenously developed and at what price points will they be retailed at. The company has over 850 sales and service outlets across the country and has sold over six lakh units so far. The manufacturer has a manufacturing facility in Ludhiana, Punjab, and a shared facility in Pitampura, Madhya Pradesh with the Mahindra Group.
