Battery, Motor and Range

Toyota Urban Cruiser Abella is offered with two battery pack options – 49 kWh and 61 kWh (battery with LFP technology). There is a small 49 kWh battery with an electric motor delivering 144 PS power, which generates 189 Nm torque. There is a 174 power motor with a large 61 kWh battery, which will be able to produce 189 Nm torque. It is currently offered with 2WD (front-wheel drive) option.

Talking about the range, the ARAI-claimed maximum range is 543 km with the large 61 kWh battery, which gives the ability to cover long distances on a single charge. Range will be lower with the smaller battery, which is estimated to be around 344-400 km. Charging will support AC charger (6.5-9 hours at 7kW) and DC fast charging (10-80% in just 45 minutes). The company has not announced the price yet. However, customers will be able to book it from today itself for a token amount of Rs 25 thousand.

e Vitara is built on Maruti's special Heartect-e skateboard platform. Its length is 4,275 mm, width is 1,800 mm and height is about 1,640 mm, while the wheelbase is 2,700 mm. Ground clearance without load is expected to be around 185 mm. Two LFP battery packs taken from BYD have been used in it.

This five seater SUV has achieved five star rating in Bharat NCAP. It has got 31.49 out of 32 marks for adult safety and 43 out of 49 marks for child safety. It is believed that the price of the initial variant of this EV will be around Rs 19 lakh, in which a smaller battery pack will be available. At the same time, the price of the top variant with a bigger battery pack can go up to Rs 25 lakh. The Urban Cruiser EV is actually a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki E Vitara, which is going to hit the showrooms soon. Although official performance figures have not been revealed yet, it is expected that the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will offer a driving range of more than 540 kilometers on a single charge.

Meanwhile, VinFast recorded sales of 321 units in December. Hyundai sold 238 units. Kia performed better than Hyundai with 272 registrations, but still lagged behind VinFast. The Sealion 7 gets a large 82.56 kWh battery pack as standard and it claims to give a range of around 567 km on a single charge. The Sealion 7 in the high-spec Performance trim produces 523 bhp of peak power and 690 Nm of peak torque with dual-motor AWD configuration. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

Bookings for the E Vitara will start soon and its launch is expected in early 2026. Maruti will also make this e-SUV available under subscription and battery-as-a-service (BaaS) schemes.

More than 2,000 charging points
To charge the E Vitara, Maruti Suzuki has installed more than 2,000 charging points in more than 1,100 cities of the country. Additionally, the company has partnered with 13 charging point operators (CPOs) to provide customers with an even larger charging network. Maruti aims to create a network of more than 1 lakh charging points in collaboration with its dealers and CPOs by 2030. The company claims that a charger will be available every 5-10 kilometers, which can be accessed through the 'E for Me' app. Apart from this, Maruti has more than 1,500 EV-ready workshops, where service support and doorstep service will also be provided.

This car will come in FWD setup with two battery pack options. Maruti Suzuki E Vitara will have two battery pack options of 49kWh and 61kWh, both of which will come with front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup. The range for the larger battery pack is rated by ARAI at 543 km. E Vitara will be available in three trims. The base trim Delta will get a 49kWh battery pack, while the Zeta and Alpha trims will get a larger battery pack. Maruti has also confirmed that the E Vitara has received a 5-star safety rating from BNCAP.
