The newly launched third generation Honda Amaze shares many features with its sibling Honda City.
The sub-four meter compact sedan segment in the Indian passenger vehicle market has been witnessing declining sales numbers and declining market share over the past few years due to the steady rise in demand for SUVs and crossovers. However, despite consumers' declining interest in the segment, the sub-compact sedan segment suddenly became the talk of the town again with the launch of two new generation models. While Maruti Suzuki launched the fourth generation Maruti Suzuki Dezire, Honda Cars India launched the third generation Honda Amaze.
The new generation Honda Amaze has been completely redesigned with changes to the exterior and interior. The sedan now looks similar to its bigger sibling, the Honda City sedan. Apart from giving the new Amaze Ciy-influenced styling, Honda has also equipped it with a number of new features that give it an upmarket vibe.
Here's a quick look at the key features that the new generation Honda Amaze shares with the Honda City.
lanewatch camera
One of the key features of the new Honda Amaze is the LaneWatch camera, which is fitted below the left ORVM. This is the same LaneWatch camera unit that also comes in the Honda City. This camera provides a live feed when the indicator on the left is on. The camera and its feed are helpful when overtaking as they help the driver avoid potential blind spots.
ADAS
One major feature added to the new Amaze is the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). With this, Honda Amaze becomes the most affordable car in India and also the only car in the sub-compact sedan segment to offer this feature. The ADAS suite on the new Honda Amaze includes features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and collision mitigation system.
8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system
Both the third-generation Honda Amaze and Honda City are offered with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The second generation Honda Amaze was equipped with a small 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, but with the new generation model, the sedan gets a larger display.
7.0-inch semi-digital instrument cluster
The previous generation Honda Amaze had analog dials with a multi-info display in its instrument cluster. However, the new generation Honda Amaze gets a 7.0-inch semi-digital instrument cluster. This is the same unit that is also offered in the Honda City, which provides additional vehicle information along with customization.
wireless phone charger
The 2024 Honda Amaze gets a wireless phone charger, which, along with a USB port, provides additional convenience to the occupants. Both the Honda City and the new Honda Amaze have additional 12V power sockets in the front and rear seat rows.

The price increment affects all three models from the automaker – Elevate, City and Amaze – and will be the second time from Honda this year.
Honda Cars India will be increasing prices across its model range from April 2024. This would be the second price hike from the company this year after increasing prices in January. The price increment affects all three models from the automaker – Elevate, City and Amaze.
The Honda Amaze is the brand’s most accessible offering and is priced from ₹7.16 lakh, while the Elevate is priced from ₹11.58 lakh. The Honda City is priced from ₹11.71 lakh onwards, while the City e:HEV hybrid is priced from ₹18.89 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
Honda is yet to officially announce the price hike and we will get to know the exact quantum of the price hike only next month. In the meantime, the automaker has rolled out special year-end offers for March 2024. This includes a discount of up to ₹50,000 on the Elevate along with benefits of up to ₹90,000 on the Amaze. The Honda City gets the maximum discount of up to ₹1.20 lakh for March.

Honda Elevate is offered only with a petrol engine. It comes mated to a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission.
Honda has announced that they will be selling their Elevate SUV through Canteen Stores Department (CSD) across the country for the Indian Armed Forces. The Elevate is the third model from Honda to be sold through Canteen Stores Department as Honda is already selling the City and the Amaze.
Honda Elevate shares its underpinnings with the 5th Gen City. So, it is powered by a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 119 bhp of max power at 6,600 rpm and a peak torque output of 145 Nm at 4,300 rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission with 7-steps.
The fuel efficiency figure for the manual gearbox is 15.31 kmpl whereas the automatic transmission delivers 16.92 kmpl of fuel efficiency. The manufacturer will not sell the Elevate with a diesel engine. Instead, they will launch an all-electric version of the Elevate within the next two years.
The Elevate is currently one of the most affordable mid-size SUVs in the Indian market. It is priced between ₹11.58 lakh and ₹16.20 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom. There are four variants on offer – SV, V, VX, and ZX. Apart from the SV variant, the automatic transmission is available in all variants.
Honda Elevate competes against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Citroen C3 Aircross, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
The Elevate comes standard with features such as LED projector headlamps with Daytime Running Lamps, multi-function steering wheel, push button to start/stop engine, power adjustable ORVMs, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, PM2.5 air filter and front armrest.
The top-end variant is also equipped with Honda Sensing Technology which is essentially a suite of ADAS features. Honda offers Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Lead Car Departure System, Road Departure Mitigation and auto-dimming IRVM.
In this 2023 Honda City facelift petrol review, we’ll examine the exterior, interior, drive performance and mileage of the latest C2-segment sedan. Honda City Facelift Petrol – Exterior Review
In terms of dimensions, there is not much difference between the pre-facelift and facelift versions of the City. However, in the 2023 model’s ZX variant, the front and rear bumpers are significantly restyled, making it slightly longer than the older City.
The front bumper has a carbon fibre-type trim on its lip, and the fog lamp housing also gets minor styling changes. Due to the criss-cross pattern of the lower grille, the chequered flag-type upper grille and the sharp bumper design, the face of the car looks sportier. The City now also comes with auto wipers, which were not available before.
There is only one change on the side of the car – the design of the alloy wheels. These look sporty from certain angles, but the City still looks under-tyred. It deserves wider tyres to match the car’s size and length, if not bigger alloy wheels.
The changes around the rear are as subtle as those at the front, but somehow the styling of its rear diffusers is more striking. These also get carbon fibre detailing, like at the front, which makes the car look sporty. The car also has a rear spoiler on its boot lid, which complements its design.
The boot space of the City remains the same as before, so it is 506L for the petrol version and 306L for the hybrid.
2023 Honda City Petrol – Interior Review
Moving inside the cabin, there are not many changes here either. You still get the dual-tone beige-black interior with glossy wooden accents in the petrol model and ivory cabin with glossy carbon-fibre trim in hybrid variants. The design of the dashboard and interior space remains the same. The cabin now also has a wireless phone charger just ahead of the front armrest in the hybrid version. In the petrol version, it is a removable accessory, which draws power from the front 12V power outlet.
In addition, there is also wireless phone pairing available, which complements the wireless phone charging. Furthermore, ambient lighting is also available in the door latches and door pockets.
If you want to understand the interior space of the City in detail, you can watch our Sensible review of the pre-facelift. Now, let’s see how it drives.
2023 Honda City Petrol and Hybrid – Engine Performance And Drive Review
The City still comes with a 1.5L petrol engine, which produces a maximum power of 121PS and peak torque of 145Nm. The power output of the City hybrid is 126PS and peak torque is 253Nm. Both powertrains were also present in the pre-facelift City with the same performance figures.
Regarding the manual transmission in the City, it is only available with the normal petrol engine. It’s a 6-speed gearbox and ADAS is available with this transmission from the V variant onwards.

If you plan to buy the City petrol-manual, you should consider the V variant. It is the best value-wise. You can upgrade to the VX variant for curtain airbags or a sunroof. The ZX variant offers better value than just the SV variant. It mainly adds good-to-have functional and style-related features, so we will leave it up to you to decide if you should go for this upgrade.

In the case of City automatic also, the V variant is our top recommended variant, as it offers most of the must-have and some good-to-have features. It also offers better value than the other variants. In this case, you can upgrade to VX for added safety features or a sunroof, but upgrading to ZX doesn’t feel very compelling.

If you’re interested in the City hybrid, then you should buy the V variant. The V variant offers most of the basic features, and in ZX, all the features are available. ZX also offers slightly better value than the V variant, so upgrading for these extra features makes sense. But, to make sure that this upgrade is financially suitable, you should consider checking out our fuel cost calculator and run some numbers.

2023 Honda City Facelift Petrol and Hybrid – Verdict And Buying Recommendation
The mid-life facelift of the City brings minor cosmetic enhancements, including a new blue body colour. Its exterior design updates are sporty and we like them.
Honda didn’t make any major cosmetic changes to the City’s interior and we believe that an all-black or grey-black theme would complement its sportier exterior even more. Additionally, we feel that it should offer electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats.
Honda City First Drive Review 2024
The City is a rare car, which gets adaptive cruise control with a manual transmission. We think that its usage is limited within the city, but it’s very useful on the expressways. Overall, we believe that the Honda City is still one of the most comfortable cars in its segment, and its cabin space, seating comfort, and drivetrain refinement are its USPs.
The Honda City facelift arrived earlier this year and now comes with a cash discount of up to ₹25,000. Alternatively, you can choose to get free accessories from the dealer worth ₹26,947. Honda Cars India announced that its entire range of passenger vehicles in India will be pricier from January 2024. The Japanese car manufacturer has reportedly said that it will hike the price of all its cars in India from next month, owing to increased production costs. With this move, Honda Cars India becomes the latest automaker in India to increase the pricing of its passenger vehicles, effective from January next year.
By: HT Auto Desk | Updated on: 03 Dec 2023, 18:08 PM
PTI has quoted a senior official of Honda Cars India saying that it will increase the prices of its cars from January 2024 in order to partially offset the impact of rising input costs. This comes following the announcement by several other automakers in India that have already announced that the pricing of their respective passenger vehicles will see a hike from next month.

Honda Cars India currently sells three passenger vehicles in India. These are the Amaze compact sedan, City midsize sedan and Elevate SUV. Speaking about the decision, Honda Cars India’s Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Kunal Behl said that the auto company will increase the prices of its models from next month due to pressure on input costs. “The model-wise amount of increase will be finalised by the end of this month. Our new model Elevate which was launched at an introductory price has been well received by the market with very high customer consideration. The introductory price will be valid till December 23 and price will be revised from January 2024,” he added.
Honda Car India will not discontinue its sedan range in India amidst launching new SUVs, contrary to a recent report. The Japanese automaker confirmed to HT Auto that the Honda City and Amaze sedans will continue to be sold in the country, even as it surges forward with an SUV-focused strategy. Honda recently introduced the Elevate compact SUV, its first all-new offering in three years and an all-new nameplate in 10. The automaker plans to bring five new SUVs to India by 2030.
By: Sameer Fayaz Contractor | Updated on: 03 Nov 2023, 18:37 PM
While SUVs will clearly be Honda’s priority over the next few years, the company will continue retailing its bread-and-butter models as well. The Honda Amaze is the brand’s most accessible offering and continues to average about 3,000 units every month, taking on the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor.
The Honda City, its most celebrated model in India, brings in about 1,500 units month on month. The numbers are on par with models like the Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus, which average a little over 1,500 units every month, while the new-generation Hyundai Verna is the segment bestseller bringing in over 2,500 units every month.
Sedans may have lost their popularity across segments over the years but there’s no denying that the cars continue to bring in considerable sales and revenue for automakers. Both the Honda Amaze and City enjoy admiration for their respective reliable engines, good build quality and easy ownership. Moreover, the Honda India plant not only caters to the domestic market but also exports both sedans overseas. The Right Hand Drive (RHD) Amaze and City are shipped to South Africa and the neighbouring countries around India. On the other hand, the Left Hand Drive (LHD) is exported to Mexico, Turkey and the Middle East market. Both models are built at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan.
That said, the Honda Amaze is expected to get a new lease on life with the third generation reportedly in the works. The new-gen Amaze could arrive in 2024 and will be based on an evolution of the current version’s platform that has been around since 2018. It is also expected to get a design and feature revamp. The Honda City, meanwhile, holds a lot of importance in the APAC region, apart from India, with no announcements to discontinue the model in these markets. This still leaves room for the next generation to arrive in India when the model is ready globally.
Watch: Honda Elevate SUV: First drive review
Honda Car India’s SUV strategy kicked off with the Elevate this year. The automaker has confirmed the arrival of the electrified version in the next three years. A subcompact SUV, possibly based on the Amaze platform, is also said to be on the cards. Previously, the automaker confirmed that it plans to launch one new model every year in India, which includes hybrids and EVs. The company is also expected to bring premium models via the CBU and CKD routes in India.
Honda Cars India has registered a marginal rise in its sales in August with one of the smallest fleet any carmaker has in India. With the help of its two sedans – the fifth generation City and the sub-compact Amaze, the carmaker has been able to deliver 7,880 units last month. The Japanese auto giant’s sales in India has grown by one per cent compared to the same month last year. The carmaker is now gearing up to launch the Elevate compact SUV, its third model in India, on Monday (September 4).
Honda’s sales last month is barely 31 units more than the carmaker sold in August last year. However, the carmaker has clocked a decent jump in sales compared to the previous month. In July this year, Honda had clocked 4,864 units. The Japanese carmaker attributed the rise to growing demands ahead of festive season. “The festive demand has been strong and continues to show good momentum. The celebratory fervour, which began with Onam in southern India, will extend to the rest of the markets as we move towards the peak of festivities in the coming months,” Yuichi Murata, Director Marketing and Sales at Honda Cars India, said.
Meanwhile, Honda’s export has dropped to 2,189 units against 2,356 units in August 2022, a decline of around seven per cent.
Honda is gearing up to add a compact SUV in its sedan-only lineup on September 4 when it officially launches the Elevate. Honda Cars has already received good response on bookings for the SUV. Bookings were opened on July 3 for ₹5,000. The deliveries are expected to begin soon after it is launched.
Watch: Honda Elevate SUV First Drive Review
Honda Elevate SUV will be offered in four variants – SV, V, VX and ZX. The carmaker will initially offer the SUV with seven single colour options. The SUV will be offered with a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine, which is also used for the Honda City sedan. This engine churns out 119 bhp of power and 145.1 Nm torque. The engine is available with a six-speed manual gearbox and an advanced CVT gearbox.
Honda Cars India on Monday announced that it has kicked off a nation-wide ‘Independence Day Service Camp’ from August 16 to August 20. During the campaign, customers of the brand will be able to avail exclusive offers on car care services and Periodic Maintenance Labour. These offers include discounts on services such as interior cleaning, paint treatment/beautification, headlamp and windshield treatment, underbody coating, and more.
By: HT Auto Desk | Updated on: 14 Aug 2023, 14:40 PM
Customers of Honda will also be able to avail offers for pads, wipers, tyres, and batteries. Further, they can avail complimentary evaluation of their existing vehicles while exclusive benefits are also being offered to those considering a brand new Honda car.
During the campaign, potential customers can also experience the ADAS technology of Honda Sensing through the test drive of the Honda City sedan. There will also be a daily lucky draw competition, offering participants a chance to win prizes.
The initiative by Honda is a gesture of gratitude towards defense personnel, police officials, and doctors. The company says that the Special offers on all value-added services and periodic maintenance labour are a token of appreciation for the dedicated service by these people. “These exclusive offers and incentives underscore our unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction and the sheer joy of owning a Honda car,” said Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India.
Meanwhile, the company is gearing up to launch the Elevate SUV in the Indian market in September, right ahead of the festive season. The production of the SUV has commenced at the company’s Tapukara facility in Rajasthan on July 31. The car brand also started accepting bookings for the upcoming model earlier this month across India at a price of ₹21,000.
The Honda Elevate SUV will be available in the country in four different trim levels: SV, V, VX and ZX.
