Tata Motors will launch several new models including Curvv, Harrier, Safari, Sierra and CNG, hybrid options, aiming for 18-20% share in PV and EV market by 2030. Some time ago, Tata's market share in the EV car market was quite high. Due to increasing competition with time, there was a gradual decline in it. Now the company is preparing to increase its market share.

New Delhi. Tata Motors has formulated an aggressive production strategy to strengthen its presence in the passenger vehicle (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) markets, aiming to achieve 18-20% market share by 2030. The company plans to launch several new models in different segments including urban compact EVs, midsize family cars, lifestyle SUVs and premium electric SUVs.

CNG and Hybrid
Focus on CNG and hybrid for SUVs over 4-metre long Apart from this, the domestic automaker is also planning to enter the CNG and hybrid vehicle segment, in which these powertrain options will be offered for SUVs over 4-metre in length. Tata's current product portfolio includes three such SUVs – Curvv, Harrier and Safari, as well as the upcoming Sierra.

Entry into 4.3 meter segment?
Speaking to an online media publication, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said that the company may consider expanding its CNG product lineup in the 4.3 meter segment if the demand is there. The CNG setup could be offered with a turbo-petrol engine, as is the configuration available on the Nexon CNG.

Inspired by CAFÉ 3 Standard
This push towards CNG expansion and hybrid powertrain adoption inspired by the upcoming CAFÉ 3 standard comes in view of the stricter CAFÉ 3 emission norms, which will come into effect from 2027. In FY2025, CNG and hybrid vehicle segments see a growth of 35% and 15.40% respectively. Sierra and Harrier/Safari petrol will be launched soon Tata Motors will launch the much-awaited Sierra midsize SUV on November 25, 2025. At launch, the SUV will be offered only with ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) powertrains, which will include 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel options. Tata Sierra EV will arrive in early 2026.

Harrier and Safari
Tata Harrier and Safari petrol versions are scheduled to be launched on December 9, 2025. Both the SUVs will be powered by Tata's new 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine, which will produce 170PS of power. Transmission options will include both manual and automatic units.

Mahindra & Mahindra will enter the Hybrid segment with the XUV 3xo compact SUV in 2026. The strong hybrid system will be paired with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine. The Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9E can be introduced in 2026 or 2027 with Range-Aptnder Hybrid Povertrain. Hyundai Motor India plans two hybrid SUVs-New-Jen Creta and a 7-seater SUV (Kodename NI1I). Similarly, Kia Celtos will be hybrid with its generation change in 2027, followed by a new Kia 3-Ro SUV (Kodename Q4i).

Honda Cars India
Honda Cars India has been told that it will launch its globally Famous ZR-V hybrid SUV by the end of 2025. Interestingly, the Japanese automaker will also present the hybrid variant of the Elevate Midsize SUV around the 2026 Diwali season. Honda's absolutely new 7-seater SUV can be the third hybrid offering, which will also introduce the new modular platform of the brand.

The Fronx will introduce the new Strong Hybrid technology of the compact crossover brand, followed by New-Jen Baleno and a sub-4 meter MPV in 2026. Car manufacturer is likely to electrify its new Z12e, 3-cylinder petrol engine. This motor will serve as a generator and supply power to the battery pack between 1.5kwh -2kwh. An electric motor will power the front wheels.

2 lakh – 2.5 lakh rupees will increase price

The total design and interior of Maruti Fronx Hybrid will be similar to its Ice model. However, there may be some changes inside the 'hybrid' badging and cabin on the exterior. Strong hybrid powertrain will be specially introduced on higher trims, and its price is expected to be around Rs 2 lakh-2.5 lakhs from the petrol-speed Froncs.

Mahindra XUV 3xo Hybrid
The domestic automaker has been working on hybrid technology, which includes strong hybrids and range extenders to expand its product portfolio. The Mahindra XUV 3xo compact SUV may be the first hybrid model of the brand, which is expected to come in 2026. If media reports are believed, Mahindra can use his 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with hybrid technology. The Ice-Powered Mahindra will provide the SUV Series-Hybrid Povertrain facility, while BEVs (battery electric vehicles) can be introduced with a range-atender configuration.

India has given import duty exemption to UK auto exporters only on large petrol and diesel trains and expensive electric vehicles, while small and mid -size cars and low -priced EVs are preserved under bilateral trade agreement. That is, there will be no discount in import duty on them. This also means that FTA will not have any effect on their price.

No discount for 5 years
No concession has been given to electric, hybrid or hydrogen-guard vehicles for the first 5 years of the agreement. That is, by 2030, there will be no discount on electric cars, hybrids or green fuel vehicles. However, no budget cars are currently imported from the UK. But in this time frame, if such models are brought to India from the UK in the future, then they will not get a discount on import duty.

These models will not get concession

Under the agreement, India has offered the UK phased and quota-based Libelai in the automobile sector, limited to Complete Built Units (CBU). These include petrol-diesel vehicles and green fuel vehicles such as electric, hybrid and hydrogen-retarded models, however, in the initial stages, green fuel vehicles such as electric, hybrid and hydrogen -ward -ward models are out of this concession.

Rebate will be given after 5 years
There will be tax exemption from the sixth year of the electric vehicles agreement., And even then it will be only for luxury models that cost more than £ 80,000. Vehicles priced less than £ 40,000, mostly mass-market EVs, are deliberately excluded from the tax release. Let us tell you that recently the free trade agrected between India and the UK has been signed, so that import duty will be reduced on many goods to be exported between the two, not only the car.
