New Delhi. Mahindra Scorpio has become the favorite SUV of Indians. This midsize SUV of the local company has become not just a vehicle but an identity. Its bumper sales every month are proof of this. The interesting thing is that despite being expensive, this SUV is continuously making new records in terms of sales.

A total of 15,677 units of Mahindra Scorpio were sold in October 2024. This figure is 15% more than the 13,578 units sold last year in October 2023. While 14,438 units were sold in September 2024, it got the benefit of the festive season in October. This sales growth of Scorpio proves that this SUV remains the first choice of people in rural and urban areas.

Powerful combination of looks, power and features
A total of 34 variants of Mahindra Scorpio-N are available in trims like Z2, Z4, Z6 and Z8. Its prices start from Rs 13.85 lakh to Rs 24.54 lakh (ex-showroom). Scorpio-N has the option of 2.2-litre diesel and 2-litre turbo petrol engine. This SUV comes with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, the 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options make it perfect for offroading as well.

Talking about design, Scorpio-N is available in attractive color options like Deep Forest, Midnight Black, White, Silver and Red. Its 6 and 7-seater options make it great for families too.

Perfect match of power and price
Mahindra Scorpio Classic is available in S and S11 variants. Its price ranges from Rs 13.62 lakh to Rs 17.42 lakh (ex-showroom). This SUV comes with 7 and 9-seater options. It has a 2184 cc diesel engine, which generates power of 130 bhp and torque of 300 Nm. Giving a mileage of up to 14 kmpl, this rear wheel drive SUV is suitable for both city and village.

New Delhi. Mahindra's flagship SUV Scorpio has achieved a significant milestone in sales. Recently, Mahindra has completed the production of 9 lakh units of its popular SUV from Chakan plant in Pune. The 9 lakhth car to roll out of Mahindra's plant was the Scorpio-N model, which is a new avatar of Scorpio and was launched in June 2022.

The Scorpio made its debut in India in 2002 and has received several facelifts and updates since then. Currently, Mahindra is selling both the Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic variants in India.

How much is Scorpio selling for?
The Mahindra Scorpio is currently the company's best-selling model. The new generation Scorpio-N and the old Scorpio Classic have made it more popular than Mahindra's other SUV, the Bolero. In May, Mahindra sold 9,318 units of both the SUVs. Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO, Mahindra & Mahindra, announced this historic achievement on social media. He wrote, “Today was a very special day. We were at the Chakan plant to celebrate it with the team. It was an emotional moment to send the Scorpio N off the line.”

More features are available in Scorpio-N
The Mahindra Scorpio-N SUV is larger than the Scorpio Classic. This SUV is 206 mm longer, 97 mm wider and has a 70 mm longer wheelbase than the previous generation model. It has 18-inch and 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The SUV includes features like signature double barrel LED projector headlamps, long stacked LED tail lamps, shark-fin antenna and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs. On the other hand, the Scorpio Classic retains the design language of the old Scorpio with some updates.

The engine of Scorpio N is also powerful
The Scorpio Classic SUV comes only with a diesel engine. It has a 2.2-litre engine that generates 130 bhp of power and 300 Nm of peak torque with a 6-speed gearbox.

The Scorpio-N gets a 2.2-litre diesel engine that can generate 172 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. The torque output increases to 400 Nm in the six-speed torque converter automatic transmission variants. The lower variants produce 130 bhp and 300 Nm. Apart from this, the Scorpio-N is also available with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 200 bhp and 370 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.

What is the price?
The Scorpio Classic is priced at ₹ 12.64 lakh (S variant), while the S11 trim is priced at ₹ 16.14 lakh. The Scorpio-N starts at ₹ 13.05 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹ 24.51 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec Z8 L AT AWD variant.

Mahindra Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic have been playing a crucial role for the homegrown automobile brand since their launch in India last year. The Mahindra Scorpio N comes with a more modernised vibe, while the Scorpio Classic carries the signature look of the SUV. Both the SUVs have been fetching about 17,000 bookings every month, which is the highest for any Mahindra SUVs, the brand has revealed.

Mahindra Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic have been fetching 17,000 bookings every month, beating other SUVs from the brand.

The homegrown auto manufacturer currently has 1.19 lakh open bookings for both the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic SUVs. The second most popular SUV from the automaker is the Mahindra Thar, which claims to be receiving about 10,000 bookings every month. The true blue off-roader that comes available in both hard-top and soft-top variants currently has 76,000 open bookings across India.

Mahindra Bolero range and XUV700 range are at the same level when it comes to receiving bookings. Both the XUV700 flagship SUV and the Bolero models have been receiving about 9,000 bookings every month. The XUV700 currently has 70,000 open bookings across India. The Mahindra Bolero and Bolero Neo combined have been fetching about 9,000 bookings every month and currently have 11,000 open bookings.

Mahindra XUV300 and its pure electric sibling XUV400, together have been receiving about 6,000 bookings every month, claimed the automaker. Combined, these two compact SUVs currently have 10,000 open bookings across the country. The SUV specialist auto manufacturer also said that it currently has about 2.86 open bookings across the country.

Demands for the SUVs have been rising in India rapidly, keeping pace with the rest of the global markets. Encouraged by this, every automaker has been launching new products in the segment and Mahindra too is no different. The carmaker has launched a couple of new models over the one year that have received pretty good responses from buyers.

Ever since Mahindra launched the Scorpio N in the Indian market, it has received a tremendous response in terms of demand. Because of this, the waiting period for the SUV was very long. Since then Mahindra has been trying to reduce the waiting period. The latest update is that the waiting period is now between 35 and 40 weeks in New Delhi.

Mahindra Scorpio N is 206 mm long, 97 mm wide and has 70 mm more wheelbase compared to the Scorpio Classic. It rides on R18 and R17 diamond cut alloy wheels, and sports signature double barrel LED Projector headlamps, tall stacked LED tail lamps, shark-fin antenna and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, among other exterior features.

The Scorpio N is offered as a 6-seater or a 7-seater. It is available in four trims – Z2, Z4, Z6 and Z8. Last month, the prices of the Scorpio N were hiked. This is the third time Mahindra and Mahindra has increased the price of the Scorpio-N SUV. Earlier, the carmaker had hiked its prices in January and April. The prices start at 13.26 lakh and go up to 24.54 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom.

Mahindra is using a body-on-frame chassis for the Scorpio N. It comes with a rear-wheel drive setup with a proper 4×4 powertrain. Powering the SUV is a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine which are also doing duty on the XUV700 and the Thar.

The diesel engine is available in two tunes. The lower variants produce 130 bhp and 300 Nm whereas the higher variants put out 172 bhp and up to 400 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard whereas the higher variants also get an option of a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The petrol engine puts out 200 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of up to 380 Nm of peak torque. It is also offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Mahindra is still selling the previous generation of the Scorpio which now has been rebranded to Scorpio Classic. Its prices were hiked by 25,000. Mahindra Scorpio Classic is now priced between 13.25 lakh and 17.06 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom.

Mahindra Scorpio N pickup to debut on August 15 in this country. More details

Mahindra has teased its new pickup truck, slated to debut on August 15 in Cape Town, South Africa. The homegrown auto manufacturer has dubbed this as the concept form of a global pickup truck. The pickup truck is expected to be based on the Mahindra Scorpio N platform. The upcoming Mahindra Thar five-door too will be based on the same architecture. It will carry the legacy of the Mahindra Scorpio pickup truck, which has been in business for several years. Besides this, the automaker is also expected to showcase some more of the brand’s future mobility plans.

The Mahindra Scorpio N pickup concept will carry the legacy of the Mahindra Scorpio pickup truck and it will first break cover in South Africa.

Internally codenamed Z121, the new pickup truck will come with a longer wheelbase than the standard Scorpio N SUV. This will enable the pickup truck to accommodate a larger cargo deck. For reference, the Mahindra Scorpio Classic has a 2,600 mm wheelbase, while the pickup version of this SUV comes with a wheelbase well over 3,000 mm allowing the latter to have a cargo deck.

Mahindra has not revealed further details of the upcoming pickup truck concept, however, the teaser indicates that it will be well capable of tackling hard road challenges. A few design elements of the pickup truck concept include a double-cab body style, rugged looking front grille and chunky off-road spec tyres wrapping around large wheels.

Expect the production version of the Mahindra Scorpio N pickup truck to come to the market by 2025. It could arrive in both single and double-cab body styles. Speaking about the powertrain, the pickup truck could share the same petrol and diesel engines as the SUV. Also, there would be manual and automatic transmission options for the pickup truck. Expect it to come in both 2WD and 4WD options. It is not clear if the upcoming Mahindra Scorpio N pickup truck will replace the current Scorpio pickup or would sell alongside it.
