Mahindra Thar Roxx Standard Vs Star Edition: Which one is wiser to buy? know immediately

Mahindra Thar Roxx Standard Vs Star Edition: Which one is wiser to buy? know immediately

Mahindra Thar Roxx Standard Vs Star Edition: The standard Thar Rox gets a classic boxy SUV look with a body-coloured grille, 18-inch alloy wheels and normal LED headlights-DRLs. It looks rugged and muscular, but the Star Edition has a more aggressive and stealthy look. It gets a piano black (gloss black) grille, 19-inch black finish alloy wheels (including spare wheel), blacked-out treatment and Star Edition badging.

It looks more premium and head-turning in new color options like Citrine Yellow or Stealth Black. The design of the Star Edition is more sophisticated and urban-friendly, while the standard variant remains more basic and off-road focused. Overall, the Star Edition looks similar to the top-end AX7L.

interior detail

Lower variants of the standard Thar Rocks come with basic materials, manual AC and simple seating, while higher variants get light themes (like white or mocha). However, the Star Edition has a completely all-black theme. It comes with black leatherette seats with suede accents, which give a more premium, luxury and dark ambiance. This is better for those who want to avoid light interior. Both offer a spacious 5-door cabin, good seating and rear AC vents, but the Star Edition's interior feels more luxurious and sophisticated.

Features and safety

Here's the biggest difference. Basic variants of the standard Thar Rox (like MX1/MX3) come with basic features like manual AC, small touchscreen and cruise control. Features like panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats are available in the mid-range (MX5/AX5L), but the Star Edition packs top-end features. Features like panoramic skyroof, front ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, obstacle view, 9-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio (including subwoofer), 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment + digital cluster, wireless charging, Alexa built-in, powered driver seat, automatic climate control, power foldable ORVMs are included in it. The Star Edition comes with AX7L level features, which are much better than the standard mid-variant.

Both get basic safety features like 6 airbags (driver, passenger, side and curtain), ABS, EBD, ESP, hill hold/descent control, TPMS, ISOFIX, 360-degree camera, all-disc brakes and 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. The lower variants may be missing some features as standard, but the Star Edition includes top-level safety features like Level-2 ADAS, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning. Overall safety is stronger in both, but the Star Edition is more advanced.

Engine and Performance

Both have the same engine options. The first one is a 2.0L turbo petrol (mStallion TGDi), which produces 175-177 PS power and 380 Nm torque (in AT) and is being sold only with RWD. The second is a 2.2L turbo diesel (mHawk) engine, which produces 150-152 PS and 330 Nm in RWD, while 175 PS and 370-400 Nm in 4×4.

If you want a basic and affordable Thar Rox, go for the Standard (especially the MX series). However, if you want premium looks, black theme interior and top-end features (panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon, 360 camera) then the Star Edition is the best option. It offers better value than the MX5 and comes with features close to the AX7L. Overall, the Star Edition is more stylish, feature-rich and value packed.

New Mahindra Thar Roxx glimpsed, facelift or dark edition?

New Mahindra Thar Roxx glimpsed, facelift or dark edition?

Mahindra Thar Roxx may soon enter the Indian market in a new avatar. The company has recently released the teaser of a new version of Mahindra Thar Rocks. This teaser is going viral on social media, in which the silhouette of Thar Rox is shown.

The video caption reads, 'The spotlight has found its star' and 'Coming soon'. Looking at this teaser, it is being speculated that this will be a new black edition of Thar Rocks or it could also be a mild facelift coming in 2026.

Facelift or Dark Edition?

Mahindra Thar Rocks is a five-door version of the three-door Thar to be launched in 2024. It provides more space and comfort for family use with off-road capability. Now the company has prepared a new update to make this popular SUV more attractive.

The dark theme and blacked-out elements seen in the teaser clearly indicate that this could be a special edition. Especially the chances of getting a dark edition or black edition are high. Mahindra has already launched similar all-black themed special editions in Scorpio-N and XUV700, which have proved to be quite popular in the market.

What did you see in the teaser?

According to the teaser, the new version will come with completely blacked out treatment. It may have black alloy wheels, black bumpers, black grill, black logo and perhaps black leather or fabric upholstery in the interior as well. It is also being said in some reports that black paint job can be given to hide the C-pillar, which will give it a more aggressive look.

Same engine, new design

For a sportier touch on the exterior, some chrome parts can be replaced with black. However, there is little hope for mechanical changes. There will be no change in engine options. These include a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel, which are available with manual and automatic transmissions respectively. There is also a possibility that it can also be given a 1.5-litre diesel engine to reduce the price.

If this is a facelift, then the changes could be more. There is talk of Thar Rox getting a midlife update in 2026, which may include some new features in the front grille, headlights, bumpers and interior. Recently camouflaged test mules have been spotted on Indian roads, pointing towards a major update.

There is already demand in the market

Mahindra Thar Roxx is already one of the most sought-after lifestyle SUVs in the Indian market. Its strong build quality, 4×4 capability, high ground clearance and modern features like 10.25-inch infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, level-2 ADAS and rear AC vents make it a favorite among youngsters and adventure lovers.

Mahindra has created a stir in the market with this teaser. Be it the Black Edition or a facelift, it is sure that this new incarnation of Thar Rox will be even more attractive for off-roaders and style statement lovers. The company may share more details soon. For now, Thar Rocks fans are anxiously waiting for when the “star” will finally step into the spotlight.
