New Delhi. After a long wait, Maruti Suzuki has introduced the India-spec version of E Vitara in India. This first electric car of the company will be available in 49kWh and 61kWh variants in the country and it has got a range of up to 543 kilometers by ARAI. Bookings for the E Vitara will start soon and its launch is expected in early 2026. Maruti will also make this e-SUV available under subscription and battery-as-a-service (BaaS) schemes.

More than 2,000 charging points
To charge the E Vitara, Maruti Suzuki has installed more than 2,000 charging points in more than 1,100 cities of the country. Additionally, the company has partnered with 13 charging point operators (CPOs) to provide customers with an even larger charging network. Maruti aims to create a network of more than 1 lakh charging points in collaboration with its dealers and CPOs by 2030. The company claims that a charger will be available every 5-10 kilometers, which can be accessed through the 'E for Me' app. Apart from this, Maruti has more than 1,500 EV-ready workshops, where service support and doorstep service will also be provided.

Maruti Suzuki E Vitara Powertrain and Trims
This car will come in FWD setup with two battery pack options. Maruti Suzuki E Vitara will have two battery pack options of 49kWh and 61kWh, both of which will come with front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup. The range for the larger battery pack is rated by ARAI at 543 km. E Vitara will be available in three trims. The base trim Delta will get a 49kWh battery pack, while the Zeta and Alpha trims will get a larger battery pack. Maruti has also confirmed that the E Vitara has received a 5-star safety rating from BNCAP.

Performance and battery

Drive Modes: It has many drive modes like Eco, Normal and Sport. Snow mode is also provided in some variants for better grip.
Drivetrain: It will mainly come in front-wheel-drive (FWD), and later an ALLGRIP-e 4WD variant may also be available.

ARAI certified range of 543 km has been given for its large battery pack. The company says that its nationwide network is already ready for electric vehicles, in which showrooms and service centers have been upgraded and more than 1,50,000 staff have been trained to operate electric vehicles. The e Vitara will be available with battery-as-a-service programs and subscription plans, as well as assured buyback plans.

Export to more than 100 countries
The e Vitara has been introduced as a global electric SUV, which is made in India and is being exported to more than 100 countries. Exports began on September 1 from Pipavav Port in Gujarat, with more than 2,900 units being shipped to 12 major European markets in the month of August itself, including UK, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria and Belgium.

Dimensions
The length of this SUV is 4,275 mm, width is 1,800 mm and height is 1,640 mm, while its wheelbase is 2,700 mm. It has a 3-in-1 electric drive system, in which the motor, inverter and transmission are integrated together. Customers can choose from two battery options: a 49kWh pack with a front motor producing 144hp and 189Nm, or a 61kWh pack with a more powerful 174hp, 189Nm motor. There will also be an AWD variant with a larger battery pack, which adds to the 65hp rear motor to give a total of 184hp and 300Nm, and its real-world range will be more than 500 km.

On the interior, the e Vitara features a premium digital cockpit with a twin-deck floating console, distinctive steering wheel, soft-touch dual-tone materials and multi-colour ambient lighting. Technology features include a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, 10.25-inch driver display, wireless connectivity and Harmon-tuned audio system. For comfort, ventilated front seats, 10-way power driver seat and flexible 40:20:40 rear seat are provided, which have sliding, reclining and boot-access functions.

More than 50% high-tensile steel
For safety, it has a structure of more than 50% high-tensile steel, which is supported by a special battery protection system. Standard features include seven airbags (including driver knee airbag), all-disc brakes, electronic parking brake, tire pressure monitoring system, e-call emergency assistance and Level 2 ADAS.

Home Charger and Installation Support
Maruti Suzuki is also building a strong EV ecosystem. Every buyer will get a smart home charger and installation support, while the company plans to install public fast chargers every 5-10 km in the top 100 cities of the country in the next 2-3 years. Additionally, 1,500 EV-ready workshops will be set up in more than 1,000 cities to provide better after-sales service to the growing EV customer base.

As per the WLTP test cycle, the e-Vitrara with 61 kWh battery and front-wheel drive offers the longest range, which is 428 km, followed by the all-wheel drive variant at 394 km. The base 49 kWh model gives a range of 344 km. The front-wheel drive e-Vitra is expected to be launched in India first with a larger battery pack, giving a range of over 500 km as per ARAI rating, while the dual-motor variant will arrive later.

Design
Design highlights of the e-Vitara include three-point matrix LED DRLs integrated with the headlights, massive bumpers with piano-black finish, and 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels with a blacked out look. Its 3D profile and three-point matrix tail lamps complete its styling, which is very similar to the ICE Vitara, but with modern EV touches.

In the interior, E Vitara has ventilated front seats, 10-way power driver seat and flexible rear seating. Safety and convenience features include seven airbags, level-2 ADAS with autonomous functions, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, keyless entry, ride-by-wire technology and ambient lighting for a premium cabin experience.

Launch day and price outlook

The new electric SUV will be introduced on December 2, with a price expected to be around 17-22 lakh (ex-showroom). If Maruti keeps it in this bracket, the e-Vitara will enter the same price zone as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curve EV, Mahindra BE6 and MG Windsor EV. Fast-charging capability via both AC and DC systems is expected to be standard across all variants.

Battery pack, performance and range

Maruti's first EV is expected to come with two battery options, aimed to cater to different buyer needs:

  • 61 kWh pack – estimated to provide a useful driving range of up to 500 km

Power figures are likely to fall between 142 bhp and 172 bhp, with torque estimated to be around 192.5 Nm. Initial versions are expected to run on front-wheel drive, while an all-wheel-drive configuration is planned for a later stage.

The small 49 kWh pack has a WLTP range of up to 344 km and is available with a front-wheel drive setup that produces 142 bhp and 193 Nm of torque. The larger 61 kWh pack is available in FWD and AWD variants. While the FWD variant offers a WLTP range of up to 426 km, from an electric motor that outputs 171bhp and 193 Nm, the AWD variant bumps the power output to 181 bhp and 307 Nm of torque, for a range of up to 395 km. Price-wise, early reports are around the starting range 20 lakh ex-showroom for the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki E Vitara presents a modern and premium design with LED projector headlights, Y-shaped LED daytime running lights and front fog lamps. Since it is an electric vehicle, it does not require any conventional radiator grille. The side profile features black cladding and 18-inch aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels. At the rear, it has a black bumper, three-piece LED taillights connected by a glossy black strip.

Maruti Suzuki E Vitara: Interior and features

Inside, the E Vitara is equipped with a dual-spoke steering wheel and a dual-screen dashboard setup. Other interior features include rectangular AC vents, an auto-dimming IRVM, semi-leatherette seats, an electronic parking brake and a wireless phone charger. Additional features include a panoramic sunroof, 10-way adjustable driver's seat and ventilated front seats. The vehicle comes standard with seven airbags, 360-degree surround view camera and ADAS technology.
