New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki is going to start its electric journey in India by launching the e Vitara in early 2026. This midsize electric SUV will pave the way for the launch of many more electric vehicles from the company, as the company wants to achieve the top spot in the rapidly growing EV segment. Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, said that the company will introduce many new electric vehicles in different body types and segments in the coming years.

Maruti Suzuki's EV planning
Before expanding its EV lineup, the Indo-Japanese automaker is creating a complete ecosystem, from setting up charging stations to providing end-to-end support to customers. So far, more than 2,000 exclusive charging stations have been built in more than 1,100 cities, including the top 100 EV markets and intercity routes. To further expand the charging ecosystem, Maruti Suzuki is working with many charge point operators and aggregators.

Investment of Rs 250 crore
With an investment of Rs 250 crore, the company has expanded charging infrastructure at its dealerships and launched its dedicated EV mobile app 'e for Me'. Through this app, users can locate and access Maruti owned and partner operated public EV charging stations, control home charging and even make payments from a single platform.

Awaiting details
Upcoming Maruti Electric Cars Maruti Suzuki has not yet shared the names or details of its upcoming electric cars. However, the range may include an entry-level electric hatchback that will take on the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV, as well as an electric MPV (codenamed YMC) by 2030. The company can also introduce an electric version of its popular Front compact crossover.

Company's electric portfolio will grow

Launch day and price outlook

The new electric SUV will be introduced on December 2, with a price expected to be around 17-22 lakh (ex-showroom). If Maruti keeps it in this bracket, the e-Vitara will enter the same price zone as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curve EV, Mahindra BE6 and MG Windsor EV. Fast-charging capability via both AC and DC systems is expected to be standard across all variants.

Battery pack, performance and range

Maruti's first EV is expected to come with two battery options, aimed to cater to different buyer needs:

  • 49 kWh pack – positioned as a more affordable and city-friendly option
  • 61 kWh pack – estimated to provide a useful driving range of up to 500 km

Power figures are likely to fall between 142 bhp and 172 bhp, with torque estimated to be around 192.5 Nm. Initial versions are expected to run on front-wheel drive, while an all-wheel-drive configuration is planned for a later stage.

While the e-Vitara carries forward the familiar stance associated with the Vitara nameplate, Maruti has given it a more modern, EV-centric identity. Blacked-out 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels add to its efficiency-focused design, while the sculptural 3D bodywork and matching matrix-style tail lamps give the SUV a sharper, more contemporary appearance. The overall styling blends traditional SUV proportions with the futuristic elements that are becoming characteristic of the electric segment.

Cabin layout, comfort and technology

On the inside, the e-Vitara is expected to offer a more upscale experience than any current Maruti SUV. Key features expected to be introduced include:

  • Wireless smartphone connectivity and an Infinity audio system

New Delhi. The Maruti Suzuki E Vitara electric SUV was first showcased as an EVX concept at the 2023 Auto Expo, followed by its production-ready debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show. This new EV will be launched directly against Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE6, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV. According to the latest media report, Maruti E Vitara will be available for sale in India on December 2, 2025.

This means that this EV will come with two battery packs – 49kWh and 61kWh – which will be paired with the electric motor fitted on the front XL. The larger 61kWh battery variant will also be available with dual motor setup and all-wheel drive (AWD) system.

Range
The 49kWh FWD variant will produce maximum power of 144bhp and offer a claimed range of 344km per charge. The 61kWh FWD variant will offer 174bhp power and a driving range of 428km, while the same battery pack with the AWD setup will offer 184bhp power and a range of 394km. Initially, the E Vitara may be available only with a single motor configuration. A dual motor variant may join the lineup later.

The production-ready Maruti E Vitara retains most of the design elements of the EVX concept, such as tri-slash LED DRLs at the front and rear, sporty 225/50 R19 tires (only with the AWD variant), charging ports on the front flanks, prominent wheel arches and C-pillar-mounted rear door handles.

Dimensions
The new Maruti electric SUV measures 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,635mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700mm. Its ground clearance is 180mm and its curb weight ranges from 1,702kg to 1,899kg (depending on the variant).

While the FWD variant offers a WLTP range of up to 426 km, from an electric motor that outputs 171bhp and 193 Nm, the AWD variant bumps the power output to 181 bhp and 307 Nm of torque, for a range of up to 395 km. Price-wise, early reports are around the starting range 20 lakh ex-showroom for the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki E Vitara presents a modern and premium design with LED projector headlights, Y-shaped LED daytime running lights and front fog lamps. Since it is an electric vehicle, it does not require any conventional radiator grille. The side profile features black cladding and 18-inch aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels. At the rear, it has a black bumper, three-piece LED taillights connected by a glossy black strip.

Inside, the E Vitara is equipped with a dual-spoke steering wheel and a dual-screen dashboard setup.
