Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a new milestone in India by selling 3 crore units in 42 years, of which Alto has been the most popular model. More than 47 lakh units of Alto alone have been sold in India. After this was Maruti Wagon R with 34 lakh units. Maruti is still the model with the largest customer base in India.
New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki India Limited has crossed the sales mark of 3 crore units in the domestic market, making it the first passenger vehicle manufacturer in India to achieve this major milestone. The company has achieved this feat in 42 years, when it delivered the Maruti 800 car to its first customer on 14 December 1983.
Took 28 years to sell 1 crore units
According to the timeline, it took 28 years and 2 months for Maruti Suzuki to sell its first 1 crore units. The second crore units were sold in 7 years and 5 months, while the most recent crore units took only 6 years and 4 months to be sold.
Alto most popular
The most popular model of the company is Alto, more than 47 lakh units of which have been sold. Wagon R is at second place with more than 34 lakh units, and Swift is at third place with more than 32 lakh units. Brezza and Frontix also feature in the top 10 models in sales. Currently, Maruti Suzuki sells 19 vehicle models in India, offering over 170 variants with different powertrain and transmission options.
