First launched in 2019, the Triber became increasingly popular among budget-conscious buyers due to its flexible seating and easy-to-drive features. The latest update focuses on design changes, new features and a more refined cabin experience, while the tried and tested 1.0-litre petrol engine is mated to a 5-speed manual or EZ-R AMT gearbox.

But beyond what is visible on the brochure, the real question is how the Triber facelift performs in real-world conditions. To find out, HT Auto conducted a city fuel-efficiency test under everyday traffic scenarios, and the results paint a clear picture of its urban mileage.

What were the conditions for this test?

The test was conducted in four different cities, each of which represented different levels of traffic congestion, from slow-moving peak-hour traffic to relatively free-flowing stretches.

The test car was the 'Emotion' trim equipped with the EZ-R AMT transmission. The manual air-conditioner was left on throughout the drive, set to 'cool' with fan speed at level 1.

During testing, the car was driven at a maximum speed of 60 km/h, while the average speed for the overall journey was 15.9 km/h. The car covered a total distance of 70.3 km in a duration of 4 hours and 30 minutes.

What were the test results?

The Triber facelift returned fuel efficiency figures of 6 km/l, 7 km/l, 10 km/l and 14 km/l in four cities, depending on traffic density.

While lower figures were seen during heavy stop-and-go traffic, higher numbers came from smoother stretches with fewer stops. The average of these runs gives a real-world mileage of around 9.25 km/l. This is impressive for the AMT transmission, but not so much for the weak 1.0 petrol doing the job.

Despite these numbers, Triber remains one of the most accessible and versatile options for Indian families, offering space, comfort and ease of driving at a price that no rival can match.

Renault Triber facelift: Does it look the part?

External appearances matter. That said, we only received feedback from friends and acquaintances stating that the car looks beautiful and stylish. With a newly sculpted hood and redesigned bumper, Renault has elevated the looks of this MPV, and ultimately, it looks even better than its immediate rivals in the segment.

The new LED headlamps look small in proportion to the car, but not to the extent that it spoils the aesthetics. It gives a little beautiful touch to the fascia. From the front, the dual-tone paint accentuates the pillars well, while also helping to hide the stepped roofline to some extent. And as you know, the front of the car is the best angle to admire it.

At the rear, the Triber looks similar to the pre-facelift model. Changes like the new smoked LED taillights and revised 'Triber' lettering are subtle but noticeable. The rear now looks completely updated.

On the profile, the new alloy wheel covers steal the spotlight and do the styling job well. The blacked-out ORVMs with integrated turn indicators also add to the overall appeal of the vehicle.

Renault Triber facelift: How does it feel inside the cabin?

Triber looks quite good from inside. It gets dual-tone interiors with a new instrument cluster and a redesigned steering wheel. The dominant shade on the interior is light beige, due to which the cabin feels airy. To highlight these areas, a dark gray shade has been applied to key touchpoints like the steering wheel, infotainment, air conditioning and door switches.

Sitting on the driver's seat, you do not at all feel that you are sitting in an 'economical' MPV. With a driver's instrument display and floating style 8-inch touchscreen, it makes you feel welcome with all the modernity it has to offer. The graphics on the multi-information display (MID) look great for the most part. The animations feel a bit gimmicky, but again you can't ask for too much here.

All the useful toggles are placed at the bottom of the infotainment screen; These include parking sensor deactivation, defogger, emergency parking, door lock and traction control toggle. It takes a day or two to get used to the lock toggle location, as it is usually placed on the driver's door. However, giving credit where it's due, once you get used to the position, it actually feels much more convenient than the previous placement.

Adding to the convenience, the cabin gets ample storage for things. There are two places for storage in front of the passenger seat, in addition to the wireless charger, there is a place to put your phone on the center console, and another cool storage behind the gear shift knob and cupholders.

Moving towards the back, the second row has 60:40 seats, which can be adjusted in four ways. There are two adjustable headrests in this row and two in the third row. The third row gets a 50:50 split and can also be removed completely to create more space in the trunk. Folding the seats in Triber gives a boot space of 625 liters.

Now, cutting to the chase, let's talk about how the Triber drives. The 1.0-litre engine feels energetic in the city if you're driving alone and know how to utilize the car's powerband. Personally, I find it more fun to drive a slow car fast than the other way around, but most people won't drive a car that fast. Still, the 71 bhp fades away with every passenger added to the car, and at full capacity, overtaking the vehicles becomes quite a tempting task.

One saving grace for the Triber is the adaptive steering weight which remains light during slow motion and becomes heavier as you accelerate. The weighted steering wheel increases confidence and provides more feedback. The MPV feels mostly planned, except at highway speeds, where you'll feel it acting more nervously and the rear wanting to break loose with every sharp move.

In terms of comfort, considering the fact that this is an MPV, the seats could have done with a little more cushioning. People often buy it thinking of taking it on a road trip. We also tested the capacity in excess of the rated seating capacity and took the car for a quick 30-minute drive in the city, and none of the passengers had any complaints. On the same trip, the Triber also fitted a full-sized guitar in the boot with all occupants seated.

Braking performance is good, but there is still room for more. The wheels on the top variant are 15-inch, but the lower variant may need more grip with 14-inch wheels.

Renault Triber facelift: What needs improvement?

The Renault Triber misses the mark on a few fronts. These include a missing armrest for the second-row seats, as well as no USB-C charging port. The Triber doesn't get a dead pedal or enough foot space on the driver's side to rest your left foot when the clutch is out.

Now, to vent the evil, the cruise control switch has been placed in an awkward place; Placing it on the steering wheel would have been more accessible. The 2024 Renault Captur facelift gets a more upmarket appearance with a sharp look. The grille has been redesigned and gets Renault’s new diamond logo, while the wheel arches appear more pronounced. The rear gets limited changes barring a revised bumper, while the C-shaped wraparound taillights get new graphics. Renault is offering the SUV with wheel sizes from 17- to 19-inches.

Renault has also introduced the new Esprit Alpine trim to replace the RS Line as the new top-spec variant with dual-tone paint options. The cabin gets subtle changes and largely remains the same. There is a new 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in Google, while there’s a 10.25-inch digital instrument console. Renault is also using recycled materials in the cabin in place of leather upholstery.

Power comes from a host of turbo petrol engine options for Europe. This includes the 1.0-litre three-cylinder motor with 90 bhp and a 1.3-litre four-cylinder mill available in two states of tune – 140 bhp and 160 bhp. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the more powerful 160 bhp unit gets a 7-speed DCT automatic. Renault is also offering the 1.6-litre strong hybrid engine on the 2024 Captur that is paired with an electric motor and offers a combined output of 145 bhp.

Renault has also updated the 2024 Captur to get the latest-generation driving aids including the predictive hybrid driving function and Active Driver Assist, for Level 2 autonomous driving. The French automaker will commence production of the new Captur later this year at its Valladolid factory in Spain.

Do note that the European-spec Renault Captur is different from the model sold in India. Renault has no plans to revive the model though. The automaker is planning to bring two new SUVs in the coming years with the new-gen Duster likely to arrive in 2025.

Before the launch of the Renault Kwid, the Renault Duster SUV remained one of the most successful cars from the French auto giant in the Indian market. Now, the car manufacturer is aiming to bring back the SUV to India again in late 2024. Renault has already unveiled the SUV a few months back. Based on the previously unveiled Dacia Duster, the new generation Renault Duster looks bolder than the model used to be sold in India.

Now, a new image has surfaced revealing the interior of the Dacia Duster’s base variant, which possibly previews the interior of the upcoming Renault Duster’s base variant as well. As it appears, the base variant of the SUV would miss out on a touchscreen infotainment system. However, there is a panel where the consumers can install a touchscreen infotainment unit from aftermarket. Overall, the base variant of the Renault SUV may look spartan in terms of distal interfaces.

Speaking of the styling and features, the three-spoke multifunction steering wheel would come featuring a new and chunky look. The steering may come similar to the Dacia Duster one and sport a flat vibe at the top and bottom, while it would carry a plethora of control buttons. While the base variant may miss out on the touchscreen infotainment system, it would come with a fully digital instrument cluster. Among other features on the dashboard, there would be sharp-looking AC vents with horizontal slats and rotary dials for climate control functions at the centre console.

Interestingly, the rise of touch-sensitive digital interfaces and capacitive touchpad screens in modern cars has become a safety concern. The drivers tend to take their eyes off the road to navigate through the menus on the touchscreen to access various features. This is a major issue the Euro NCAP has recently highlighted. Hence, the safety rating agency has stated that from 2026, it will penalize automakers by lowering the safety rating of a car that doesn’t have physical control buttons for certain functions.

While the entry-level variants of many cars often come sans any touchscreen infotainment systems, in the last few years, even affordable small cars come with such units. The upcoming Renault Duster will not come as an affordable model. Instead, it would be positioned above the Kiger as an upmarket SUV. Hence it would be interesting to see if Renault India introduces the touchscreen infotainment system in the base variant of the car or continues with the spartan look visible in the Dacia Duster’s base variant.

Renault India has launched the updated Kwid hatchback in the country with a revised list of features, enhancing its appeal further and raising its competitiveness against the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.

Renault India has launched the 2024 iteration of the Kwid hatchback in the country at a starting price of 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom) alongside its other siblings like Kiger and Triber. While the pricing of the updated Renault Kwid hatchback remains unchanged, the French auto giant has revised the feature list and introduced three new dual-tone exterior shades.

With the launch of the updated Kwid, the RXL(O) variant of the car now comes with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system making it the most affordable hatchback in India with this feature. Also, this variant of the Kwid now comes with an AMT gearbox, making it the most affordable automatic car in India. Renault has also made 14 safety features as standard for the Kwid hatchback.

Renault Kwid competes with rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, which has been one of the bestselling small hatchbacks in India for a long time. Here is a price and specification comparison between the new Kwid and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.

2024 Renault Kwid vs Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: Price

The 2024 Renault Kwid is priced between 4.69 lakh and 6.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), while the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 hatchback is available between 3.99 lakh and 5.96 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The RXL(O) AMT variant of the Renault Kwid is priced at 5.44 lakh (ex-showroom), which makes it the most affordable automatic car in India, while the closest competitor against it is the Maruti Suzuki Alto K120 VXI AGS, which is priced at 5.61 lakh (ex-showroom).

2024 Renault Kwid vs Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: Specification

The updated Renault Kwid remains the same as the previous model on the powertrain front. Under the hood, the 2024 Renault Kwid continues to draw power from a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine that is capable of churning out 67 bhp peak power and 91 Nm of maximum torque. This engine is available with transmission choices of a five-speed manual and an AMT unit.

On the other hand, powering the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is a 1.0-litre K10C petrol engine. This engine is available with transmission options of a five-speed manual unit and an AMT, which the automaker calls Auto Gear Shift or AGS. The Alto K10 hatchback churns out 65 bhp peak power and 89 Nm of maximum torque.

The Alto K10 is available in both petrol-only and petrol-CNG fuel options, while the Renault Kwid has no CNG option. When it comes to power and torque output, the Kwid generates slightly more power and torque than the Alto K10.

  • Renault promises to play the SUV game in India much stronger than it has so far while also confirming an EV for the market over the next three years.
Renault India will drive out the next-generation Triber and Kiger models, an EV and two SUVs in the country in the next three years.

Renault India may have found the going tough over the past few years in the market here because of just three models in the portfolio and all of these three are ageing too. But the French automaker is now promising to fight back and is all set to enter the SUV space as well as electric segment. Renault officials on Tuesday confirmed as many as five launches over the next three years.

Renault, bolstered previously by the enormous success of the Duster only for the model to fade out, is now promising to enter the SUV game with renewed vigour. As such, two new SUVs are being promised for India – a B+ SUV and a C SUV. Although the company stopped short of openly naming Duster, it is more likely that the latest version of the model launched under the Dacia brand in Europe is the one that will also make its way into India. “We are saying that we will bring in a C SUV in the next three years. But I am not saying it will definitely be the Duster,” said Venkatram Mamillapalle, Renault India MD, when asked about the specifics. As for the B+ SUV segment, it refers to the more premium end of the sub-compact SUV space.

At present, Renault offers Kiger in the Indian market and the model competes in the entry-level SUV space, priced between 6.50 lakh and 11.20 lakh (ex-showroom). But while targeting a young set of buyers, the model hasn’t exactly been a rousing success just yet. The company on Tuesday also launched an updated version of the Kiger, complete with more features. The next-generation Kiger will also be introduced over the course of the next three years while the next-generation Triber, the company’s three-row MPV in the sub- 10 lakh bracket will also be brought in.

Also interesting is that Renault has confirmed entering the EV space in India over the next three years but once again, stopped short of elaborating which model or which price bracket this option would eventually be driven out in.

The car manufacturer in an official release has said that it is offering roadside assistance to help customers transport their vehicles to the nearest dealerships free of cost. Renault claims to have deployed an additional fleet of 15 towing trucks throughout Tamil Nadu to prioritise recovery of flood-affected vehicles. Also, it has set up a 24×7 helpline ensuring the customers prompt and efficient assistance.

Speaking about the measures taken, Sudhir Malhotra, Vice President of Sales Marketing at Renault India Private Limited (RIPL), said the automaker has pledged to provide robust support to its customers affected by the Chennai floods. “During these hard times, Renault India, in solidarity with other OEMs, provides robust support to our customers affected by the Chennai floods. Our all-encompassing initiatives, spanning proactive communication and hands-on assistance, underscore our unwavering commitment to offering 24/7 aid to our customers in Tamil Nadu. Renault India will continue to remain vigilant, continuously monitoring the situation and adjusting our efforts to address the changing needs of the community and our customers. We stand united in these challenging times,” he added.

All-New Duster is built on the CMF-B platform which is a flexible platform that was first used on the latest Sandero and Logan models, then on Jogger. The new platform has helped in increasing space for the passengers, and luggage and has also helped in electrification of the SUV.

The 2024 Duster comes with 4×4 Terrain Control with 5 driving modes – Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-road and Eco. The 4×4 versions get a ground clearance of 217 mm with an approach angle of 31° and a departure angle of 36°.

The SUV now comes with a new 7-inch digital cluster and a new 10.1-inch central touchscreen. There is wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Arkamys 3D Sound System and navigation with real-time traffic data.

The 2024 Renault Duster is based on the Bigster concept.

Powering the 2024 Renault Duster are three engine options – Hybrid 140, TCe 130 and Eco-G 100. The four-cylinder, 1.6-litre petrol engine comes mated to two electric motors and an electric automatic gearbox. The petrol engine produces 92 bhp whereas one electric motor produces 48 bhp and the other motor is a high-voltage starter generator. The battery pack on offer is a 1.2 kWh unit that can be charged using brake regeneration. Moreover, the engine always starts on electric power.

Then there is a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that runs on Miller cycle with a 48V mild hybrid motor. The electric motor helps the combustion engine when the car starts or accelerates and this also helps in reducing average consumption. The regenerative braking system charges the 0.8 kWh battery. This powertrain will be offered with a 6-speed gearbox in the 4×2 and 4×4 versions.

Finally, there is the LPG option which runs on petrol as well. There are two tanks, one for petrol while the other one is for LPG. Both have a capacity of 50 litres. There is a button placed on the dashboard that changes the fuel type.

The new Renault Duster will look starkly different from the one that was sold in India. Developed with its UK-based partner Dacia, the new Duster will come with a new-look grille and a butch profile.

The SUV will be based on the French carmaker’s CMF-B platform. The French auto giant uses the dame platform for its electric vehicles too. The new Duster could come in ICE avatar, along with hybrid, CNG versions as well. The platform leaves Renault with a chance to even manufacture an electric Duster in future too.

The new Duster SUV will come with several changes in its design. The changes include new horizontal LED headlights, a new grille and a redesigned bumper with updated air intakes. The side profile will now come with more muscle and creases. At the rear, the new Duster will come with new Y-shaped light clusters and a sloping rear window with a spoiler.

The interior of the new Duster will also be heavily updated. According to reports, the SUV will come with new upholstery, redesigned dashboard among other changes. Expect the Duster to offer features like a larger touchscreen infotainment system measuring no less than 8 inches, digital driver display, wireless charger, sunroof, automatic climate control, wireless connectivity among others.

Under the hood, Renault is expected to offer the new Duster with both petrol as well hybrid powertrains. Among the new engines, Renault may add a 1.2-litre mild-hybrid unit which can generate 130 hp of power as well as a 1.6-litre fully-hybrid unit that can churn out 140 hp of power. A CNG version cannot be ruled out either besides the regular petrol Duster with a 1.5-litre unit. The engines are likely to be offered with both manual and automatic transmission.

Nissan Motor has launched the Kuro edition of the Magnite SUV in India. The carmaker has announced that the price of this special edition Magnite to commemorate ICC World Cup Cricket will start from 8.27 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker had opened the bookings for the Magnite Kuro at 11,000 last month. Wrapped in an all-black exterior and interior theme, Magnite Kuro will basically be the black edition of one of the most affordable SUVs in India. Kuro is a Japanese word which means Black in English. The carmaker recently unveiled the Magnite Kuro edition revealing its design and features ahead of the launch.

Nissan Motor has launched the Kuro edition of the Magnite SUV which comes with an all-black theme.

Nissan Magnite Kuro, based on the XV trim of the SUV, is available in three top-spec variants which include the XV MT, Turbo XV MT and Turbo XV CVT. The price of the Turbo XV MT is 9.65 lakh (ex-showroom) while the Turbo XV CVT will cost 10.46 lakh (ex-showroom). While there are no direct rivals for Magnite Kuro, it is likely to take on the Renault Kiger SUV’s Urban Knight special edition launched last month.

Nissan Magnite Kuro variants will come with similar glossy black exterior colour scheme. The Magnite Kuro will get blacked out grille, skid plates, bumpers, headlight accents, door handles and roof rails painted in black. The only chrome on the exterior is theNissan and Magnite badgings at the front and rear. The alloy wheels will come with red calipers offering some colour relief from black. Overall, there are no design changes in the Magnite Kuro edition.

The all-black theme continues inside the cabin as well. The dashboard, centre console, seats and upholstery has the monotone. Some of the elements inside the cabin have been given piano-black treatment for more premium look. The feature-list remains similar with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display, wireless charging among others.

There are no changes under the hood of the Magnite Kuro edition either. Nissan will continue to offer the same 1.0-litre petrol and 1.0-litre turbo petrol units that power the standard versions of the SUV. The naturally-aspirated petrol motor is capable of generating 71 bhp of power and 96 Nm of peak torque. The turbo petrol engine can churn out around 99 bhp of power and 152 Nm of peak torque.

Nissan will also launch a new variant of the Magnite SUV on October 12. The new variant will come with an AMT gearbox and will be called the EZ Shift variant.

The standard variants of the Magnite SUV is offered at a starting price of 6 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-spec variant of the SUV costs 10.86 lakh (ex-showroom).
