Tata Motors' iconic SUV Sierra has recently made headlines again. Even after its launch, the new Tata Sierra has been spotted testing on Indian roads. This time the exhaust tailpipe visible in the spy shots is attracting special attention.

Auto experts believe that this test mule can either be of CNG version or the AWD (all-wheel drive) variant is being tested. Both options are included in the company's plans and they are going to give direct competition to Maruti Suzuki's popular SUVs. Let us know what was seen in the Sierra that was spotted during testing.

What does Tata Sierra get?

Tata Sierra was launched in December 2025 with a starting price of ₹ 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes with cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Grand Vitara in the compact SUV segment. The design of Sierra gives a modern touch with a retro look. Bold front grille, muscular body and premium features. Large touchscreen, premium material and advanced safety features have been provided in the interior.

What updates to expect?

The currently available variants have 1.5-litre turbo petrol and diesel engines, which give good performance. But considering the demand of buyers, Tata is accelerating work on CNG and AWD versions. The CNG version will be attractive to those seeking fuel efficiency and low running costs, especially in cities where CNG is easily available.

The AWD version will provide better grip off-road and in bad weather, which will keep the 4×4 heritage of the original Sierra alive. The ARGOS platform supports AWD and if demand is good then it can be launched in 2026.

Which SUV will it compete with?

Maruti Victoris already offers Petrol, Strong Hybrid, CNG and AWD options. Tata's new CNG or AWD version will directly target the same. This may further increase the sales of Sierra. The company is doing production at the Sanand plant and from testing it seems that the new variants may hit the roads soon.

Overall, the new Tata Sierra is a great combination of nostalgia and modern technology. If CNG and AWD versions come, it will create a stronger position in the segment. Auto lovers are now waiting for Tata to make the official announcement.
