New Delhi. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is going to launch its first electric car in India – Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. This electric midsize SUV will be available for sale tomorrow i.e. on January 20, 2026 with the official price. It is believed that the price of the initial variant of this EV will be around Rs 19 lakh, in which a smaller battery pack will be available. At the same time, the price of the top variant with a bigger battery pack can go up to Rs 25 lakh. The new Toyota EV will compete with Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curve EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti E Vitara.

Battery options and range
The Urban Cruiser EV is actually a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki E Vitara, which is going to hit the showrooms soon. Like its donor model, this new Toyota EV can get 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options, which will come with a front-axle mounted electric motor. Although official performance figures have not been revealed yet, it is expected that the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will offer a driving range of more than 540 kilometers on a single charge.

ADAS and other features
In terms of safety, the new Toyota electric SUV will be at par with the E Vitara, which has received a 5-star BNCAP (India New Car Assessment Programme) safety rating. Its safety features will include Level 2 ADAS (Autonomous Driving Assistance System), front and rear parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, traction control, 360-degree camera and seven airbags.

Feature-packed interior
Its cabin layout will be largely similar to the E Vitara. Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will have a dual screen setup, which will have a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. The infotainment unit will have wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

The second is a 61 kWh battery pack, which is capable of producing 174 PS power and 192.5 Nm torque. It is capable of giving a maximum ARAI claimed range of 543 km. With the help of fast charging, it can be charged 10-80% in just 45 minutes. Battery warranty is going to be up to 8 years/1.6 lakh km.

The interior of the Urban Cruiser EV is equipped with excellent design and modern features. It includes a “squircle” steering wheel, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Toyota has introduced this electric SUV with two battery options. It has Lithium-Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery packs with 49kWh and 61kWh capacity. The smaller battery variant generates 144hp power and 189Nm torque, while the larger battery variant generates 174hp power and the same torque.

Advanced safety features have been taken care of in the Urban Cruiser EV. It has a 360-degree camera and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which includes pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and lane-departure alert. It is expected that it will also be provided with 6 airbags as standard safety.

However, the company has not given any information regarding the launch date of Urban Cruiser EV for the Indian market.
