Another inline-four sportsbike is about to hit the market and take on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, and it comes from Cyclone, a premium sub-brand from Zongshen. Originally revealed as the RC680R prototype in 2023, new patent images from an intellectual property filing reveal it has evolved into the RC700, which keeps the same powertrain under a new chassis and more production-ready design.

The RC700 will compete with Honda's CBR600R and ZX-6R, and as such, the Cyclone aims to be a part of it. To this effect, the sportsbike wears a distinctly aggressive design with a mean looking front fascia featuring projector headlamps and twin air intakes with a huge set of winglets. The front cowl extends rearwards with sharp lines that form the side fairings and connect to the muscular fuel tank with deep knee recesses.

The rider sits on the upswept tail section, while the inline-four engine hangs below, only partially hidden. A dual exhaust manifold on the right adds more visual weight, as do the strong double-sided swingarm and huge rear disc.

What is the powertrain and hardware of the RC700?

The RC700 will draw its power from a 674cc inline-four engine that is inspired by the CBR650R engine.

The RC700 will draw its power from a 674 cc inline-four engine that appears to be largely inspired by the powerplant of the CBR650R, which is quite common among other Chinese four-cylinder motorcycles. However, apart from this, no other technical details are known. The engine is housed within a tubular steel frame mated to a cast aluminum swingarm. Radial mounted J to stop lightning in the motorcycle. Juan is expected to use braking callipers, which remain hidden behind aerodynamic covers.

Will we ever see the Cyclone RC700?

Cyclone has been teasing the idea of a four-cylinder sportsbike for quite some time now, but it is unclear whether this will be the final version to reach the markets or not. Or whether the plans will be completed or not. Its parent company is one of the major motorcycle manufacturers in China and is also a manufacturing partner for Piaggio. The Cyclone has still not reached the level of market penetration that CFMoto and QJMotor have achieved over the past few years, but the launch of the RC700 could become a key factor in its strategy to take on its larger rivals.
