Toyota Urban Cruiser EV It is going to enter the Indian auto market tomorrow i.e. on 20th January. This is a rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, but will come with Toyota's special design elements. The estimated price of this electric SUV can be kept between Rs 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). In the Indian market, it is going to compete with electric cars like Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6 and Tata Curvv EV.

Its overall look is that of an SUV. Urban Cruiser EV length is 4285 mm, width is 1800 mm, height is 1635 mm and wheelbase is 2700 mm. Available in colors White, Red and Black. It is built on a dedicated BEV platform, which provides high rigidity and low center of gravity. The interesting thing is that the company is launching it even before Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Design

The exterior of the Urban Cruiser EV is muscular and sleek. Vertically stacked LED DRLs, LED headlamps, blanked-off grille and LED light bar will be seen in the front. The side profile includes large alloy wheels, chunky wheel cladding and Toyota-specific elements like a unique front grille, redesigned bumpers and alloy wheels. The rear has connected LED taillamps, integrated spoiler and a large diffuser.

Interior and Features

The cabin is going to be spacious and versatile. It has a dual-tone theme, full blacked-out elements and gloss finish. Apart from this, two-spoke steering wheel, dual fully digital display (10.25-inch driver display), auto-dimming IRVM and rotary dial for drive modes will also be available. The rear seats are sliding and 40:20:40 split-folding. Its load space can range from 310-566 litres. Apart from this, ambient lighting will also be available in 12 different colors.

This includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats, powered driver seat, wireless phone charging, fixed glass roof, sunroof, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, Type-C fast charging ports, embedded navigation, cloud-based route planning and MyToyota app. You can control battery charging schedule, AC pre-operation and door locking from the app. Drive modes include Eco, Normal, Sport and Peddle (one-pedal driving).

Standard features include 7 airbags, 360-degree camera, front/rear parking sensors, TPMS, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold control, hill descent control and seat belt reminder. Level-2 ADAS includes Brake Support System (Vehicles/Pedestrians Detection), Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Driver Monitoring System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitor. Its robust structure will provide battery protection.

Battery, Motor and Range

Like Maruti e Vitara, it can also be purchased with two LFP battery options – 49 kWh and 61 kWh. Both will have single front motor and FWD option. It will not be sold with AWD option in the Indian market. The first 49 kWh battery pack will produce 144 PS power and 192.5 Nm torque and will be capable of delivering a WLTP claimed range of 344 km.

The second is a 61 kWh battery pack, which is capable of producing 174 PS power and 192.5 Nm torque. It is capable of giving a maximum ARAI claimed range of 543 km. With the help of fast charging, it can be charged 10-80% in just 45 minutes. Battery warranty is going to be up to 8 years/1.6 lakh km.

New Delhi. Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has unveiled its new electric SUV Urban Cruiser EV. This is the first time that official pictures of this electric car have been revealed. The company had presented a glimpse of this model based on Maruti Suzuki's eVX concept SUV about a year ago.

Now its production ready version is ready for launch. A glimpse of the concept model is clearly visible in its design and features. The special thing is that it is very similar to Maruti's upcoming E Vitara electric SUV.

launch timeline
Toyota is currently focusing the Urban Cruiser EV for the European market. If reports are to be believed, it can be showcased in India at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 in January next year. Its sale in the European market is likely to start by June-July next year. The company has not yet given any confirmation regarding its launch in India, but it is believed that after the launch of Maruti Suzuki E Vitara Electric, Toyota can also launch this SUV in the Indian market.

Design and look
This SUV is basically based on Maruti Suzuki E Vitara. Despite this, many new changes have been made in it. The Urban Cruiser EV has modern LED daytime running lights, new headlamps and a redesigned rear profile. It has been given a premium look with Toyota badging.

Talking about the side profile, it has black plastic cladding and 18 or 19 inch aero-optimized wheels, which give it a sporty touch. The design of the rear door handle in the C-pillar is inspired by the Maruti Suzuki E Vitara.

Size and dimensions
The production model of the Urban Cruiser EV is slightly smaller than the concept model. Its length is 4,285 mm, width is 1,800 mm and height is 1,640 mm. Compared to the concept model, its length and width are 15 mm and 20 mm less respectively, while the height has increased by 20 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,700 mm, making it slightly larger than the Suzuki E Vitara.

Cabin and interior
The interior of the Urban Cruiser EV is equipped with excellent design and modern features. It includes a “squircle” steering wheel, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Apart from this, the cabin has premium features like drive mode, single-zone auto climate control, wireless phone charging, powered driver seat adjustment, JBL sound system and sunroof. The rear seats have the option of sliding, reclining and 40:20:40 split-folding, ensuring more comfort for the passengers.

powertrain options
Toyota has introduced this electric SUV with two battery options. It has Lithium-Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery packs with 49kWh and 61kWh capacity. The smaller battery variant generates 144hp power and 189Nm torque, while the larger battery variant generates 174hp power and the same torque.

Safety Features
Advanced safety features have been taken care of in the Urban Cruiser EV. It has a 360-degree camera and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which includes pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and lane-departure alert. It is expected that it will also be provided with 6 airbags as standard safety.

Expected launch in Indian market
However, the company has not given any information regarding the launch date of Urban Cruiser EV for the Indian market. But it is believed that it can be introduced in the Indian market by the end of 2025. Keeping in mind the needs of Indian customers, some changes can also be made in it. This SUV of Toyota can play an important role in meeting the increasing demand for electric vehicles not only in the global market but also in India.
