New Delhi. Volkswagen Virtus has crossed the huge figure of sales of 50,000 units just two years after its launch in the Indian market. The company launched it in June 2022 under the India 2.0 project. This is the German brand's second offering under this project and has been seen as one of the most popular compact sedans in recent months.

From May 2024 till now, Volkswagen Virtus has been the best selling car in its segment. It is registering average sales of more than 1,700 units every month. With this, the combined sales of Virtus and Taigun crossed the mark of 1 lakh units in the second quarter of FY 2025. These two cars have contributed about 18.5 percent to Volkswagen's total Indian sales.

Powerful engine options are the reason for popularity
A major reason for the popularity of Volkswagen Virtus is its two powerful engine options, making it the most powerful car in its segment. This car has the option of 1.0 liter turbo petrol and 1.5 liter turbo-petrol engine. This sedan has the option of 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Equipped with premium features
Many premium features have been provided in Virtus, which include 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 8-inch driver display and single-pane sunroof. Apart from this, the car also has features like push-button start/stop, wireless phone charger, and ventilated front seats. Volkswagen Virtus comes with a 5-star Global NCAP crash rating.

Top in security too
The Volkswagen Virtus was crash tested by Global NCAP in 2023, where it received a 5-star safety rating. It includes safety features like 6 airbags (standard), electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rain-sensing wipers and rear parking camera.

price and competition
Volkswagen Virtus is priced between ₹11.56 lakh to ₹19.41 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). In the Indian market, it competes with cars like Skoda Slavia, Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Ciaz.

Volkswagen on Monday launched the special edition avatars of its Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan. Christened as Black Edition, the special edition of the SUV and sedan comes on the heels of Sound Edition models that were launched just a few days ago. Both the new special edition cars come priced the same as the current model. This means, the cars have only received a new exterior colour.

Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus Black Edition are based on the Topline trims and come at the same price.

The German car manufacturer has revealed that the Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan come based on the Topline trims. The Topline trim of the Volkswagen Taigun SUV is priced between 15.84 lakh and 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The Volkswagen Virtus Topline is available at a pricing range of 14.90 lakh and 16.48 lakh (ex-showroom).

Both the special edition iterations of the Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan come wearing Deep Black Pearl exterior colour. Besides the shiny dark black exterior colour theme, there are no other changes to the special edition SUV and sedan. The black paint gets contrasting chrome elements on the door handles, and front and rear bumpers. Volkswagen has not revealed anything about the interior of the special edition SUV and sedan.

Mechanically, both the SUV and sedan remain the same as their standard avatars. The Topline trims of the Volkswagen Taigun and Volkswagen Virtus come available in both manual and automatic gearbox options. However, it is not clear if the Black theme will be available for both the manual and automatic variants. Powering the Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan is a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that churns out 114 bhp peak power.

Meanwhile, the car manufacturer is offering a range of benefits worth up to 1.46 lakh on the Taigun SUV. These benefits include cash benefits of up to 40,000, exchange benefits of up to 40,000, and corporate benefits of up to 30,000. Besides these, the automaker is also offering special benefits of up to 36,000 on the Taigun SUV. These offers and discounts are available on the SUV until 31st December 2023.

Volkswagen India has announced its annual festivities with Volkfest 2023 which brings a host of offers and benefits for customers, right in time for the festive period. The automaker has rolled out new features on the Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun; and has also expanded the GT Edge Collection with the launch of the new Virtus Matte Edition. The Volkfest 2023 commences on October 3 and will run until November 15, 2023.

With respect to the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus, both models now get twin electric front seats and footwell illumination on the Topline and GT Plus variants of the Dynamic and Performance Line respectively. Furthermore, the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus GT Plus variants now get a subwoofer and amplifier.

Following the success of the Taigun Matte Edition introduced earlier this year, Volkswagen India has now introduced the Virtus Matte Edition finished in the Carbon Steel Grey Matte colour scheme. The Virtus GT Plus is priced from 17.10 lakh, going up to 19.09 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the GT Plus DSG with electric seats. The new GT Edge Matte Edition is about 20,000 more expensive than the standard GT Plus variant

Lastly, the Volkfest 2023 also brings special benefits for existing customers. This includes free vehicle check-ups, free pick-up and drop, and door-step services through Volkswagen Assistance and Mobile Service Units on periodic maintenance. The benefits also include offers on the Service Value Pack, extended warranty, roadside assistance and tyres. Volkswagen presently has a national footprint of 189 sales and 133 service outlets across 141 cities.
