Xiaomi bought three Tesla Model Y cars and studied their parts. CEO Lei Jun said that this was to understand the technology. Xiaomi launched new electric SUV YU7, which received 2.4 lakh pre-orders in 24 hours.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun recently made a revelation that shocked the entire automobile world. Actually, Xiaomi does not want to be limited to just mobiles and gadgets. Now it is going to take a big leap in the world of electric cars also. And for this the company did something which is not seen generally.
Lei Jun told that earlier this year, Xiaomi purchased three Y model cars from Tesla. But these cars were not bought to drive in the company, but to understand them completely. The company's engineers disassembled these cars every single part and saw how Tesla designs and manufactures its vehicles. According to him, this study was not just for copying, but to know how deep is the thinking and technology of the electric car company considered to be the best in the world.
Now Xiaomi also in front of Tesla
During his annual address at the Beijing National Convention Center, Lei Jun showed a live comparison of the Tesla Model Y and Xiaomi's new electric SUV YU7 on a big screen on stage. He laughed and said, “Tesla’s Model Y is a great car, but if you don’t buy the YU7, the Model Y is also not a bad option.”
Lei Jun also told that Xiaomi has put special effort in the interior design of YU7 and this car is now no less than Model Y in any respect. He claimed that both the battery range and performance of YU7 provide better value, i.e. more features at a lower price.
At the same time, Tesla is now facing a tough challenge in China. According to China Passenger Car Association data, Tesla sales in August declined by 4 percent to 83,200 units compared to last year. On the other hand, Chinese companies like Xiaomi, Xpeng and Nio are introducing better electric cars at lower prices, due to which Tesla's market share is gradually decreasing.
Xiaomi's YU7 has received a great response from people. Within just 24 hours of its launch, it had received more than 2.4 lakh pre-orders. This shows that Xiaomi is now preparing to become a big name not only in the smartphone brand but also in the electric vehicle market.
