Kia is all set to launch the Carnival Hybrid in India on September 4, 2026. It will arrive as the electrified counterpart to the existing diesel powered Carnival which currently relies on a 2.2-litre engine and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Korean auto major has already confirmed the Carnival Hybrid for India as part of its electrification plans and here we have revealed its launch date exclusively.
The hybrid powertrain is expected to centre around a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine hooked with an electric motor and a six-speed automatic transmission. The international version develop 242 hp and around 367 Nm in combined output and we expect the same performance numbers along with the 54 kW electric motor to be carried over for India. It must be noted that the local production of the Sorento hybrid has also commenced in India.
The Carnival Hybrid will stay put offering a large cabin and based on the market and variant, the MPV can accommodate up to eight occupants while top-spec versions feature second-row relaxation seats. Other highlights are powered second-row seats, recline and ottoman functions along with heated and ventilated seating. The equipment list will also be packed with upmarket features and technologies.
It will comprise dual 12.3-inch displays, a 11-inch head-up display, Bose audio, digital rear-view mirror, Kia Connect, wireless smartphone connectivity and a shift-by-wire gear selector alongside a dual sunroof. The driver assistance tech will include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist and Highway Driving Assist, and Smart Cruise Control.
The hybrid system should also improve fuel efficiency compared to the existing model. The Carnival measures 5,156 mm long, 1,994 mm wide, 1,740 mm tall and has a 3,091 mm wheelbase. The a full parallel hybrid system will also boast regenerative braking system with three levels. On the outside, the Kia Carnival Hybrid will come with a set of 19-inch alloy wheels with glossy black finish, Dark Edition styling accents, LED projector headlamps and LED tail lamps amongst others.
The Carnival Hybrid and Sorento Hybrid are part of five hybridised models arriving in India by 2029. Kia currently targets annual sales of 4.10 lakh units as part of global sales target of 4.19 million units by 2030 and of which 2.33 million are expected to carry some form of electrification.
