Ferrari has revealed the 296 GT Modificata, a track-only model developed from the 296 GT3 Evo race car. Unlike the racing version, the new car is not bound by FIA or IMSA GT3 regulations, giving Ferrari more freedom to extract performance from its mechanical package. It follows the same idea as the 488 GT Modificata and 499P Modificata that came before it. Production will be extremely limited, with the car reserved for members of Ferrari’s Club Competizioni GT track programme. The ownership package includes two years of participation in the customer racing series, covering 12 rounds.

Ferrari 296 GT Modificata: Engine & Performance
The 296 GT Modificata uses the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 from the GT3 Evo, but without the plug-in hybrid system found in the road-going 296 GTB. Ferrari has fitted new connecting rods and camshafts and revised the air intake, intercoolers, turbochargers and exhaust system.

These changes raise the engine’s redline from 8,000rpm to 8,500rpm. It develops 720bhp and 800Nm, which is 128bhp more than the 296 GT3 Evo. The power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed sequential gearbox with revised ratios. The braking system has also been upgraded with new front discs and extra cooling to handle longer, harder track sessions. Ferrari says the car can lap its Fiorano test track in 1 minute 11 seconds, making it three seconds quicker than the 296 GT3 Evo.
Ferrari 296 GT Modificata: Design
The body has been reworked with a new front splitter, redesigned engine cover, more sculpted surfaces and a fixed rear wing. Larger front air intakes provide the extra cooling the engine needs, while ‘Modificata’ lettering is incorporated into the grille.
The car retains several elements from the GT3 Evo, including the driving lights, bumper canards, bonnet latches and front-fender air ducts. It rides on 18-inch wheels fitted with Pirelli P Zero tyres. At the rear, the wing gets a new centre pylon, a 5mm Gurney flap and revised endplates. Ferrari has also redesigned the exhaust tips, while the large rear diffuser remains largely unchanged from the GT3 Evo.
Ferrari 296 GT Modificata: Interior
Inside, the cabin has been stripped back for track use. It gets racing bucket seats, harnesses, a pared-back dashboard and a motorsport-derived steering wheel.
Unlike the single-seat GT3 Evo, Ferrari has kept two seats in the 296 GT Modificata. This allows owners to take a passenger or driving coach on track, with an intercom system allowing both occupants to communicate while driving.
