बैटरी इलेक्ट्रिक वाहन (बीईवी) जिन्हें इलेक्ट्रिक वाहन भी कहा जाता है, में आंतरिक दहन इंजन के बजाय एक इलेक्ट्रिक मोटर होती है। एक बड़े ट्रैक्शन बैटरी पैक का उपयोग करके इलेक्ट्रिक मोटर को पावर दिया जाता है। और इसे दीवार के आउटलेट या चार्जिंग उपकरण में प्लग किया जाना चाहिए, जिसे इलेक्ट्रिक वाहन आपूर्ति उपकरण (EVSE) भी कहा जाता है।
क्योंकि यह बिजली से चलता है, अतः इससे वायु प्रदुषण वाले पदार्थ नहीं निकलते जैसे कि अन्य ईंधन से चलने वाले वाहनों से निकलते है। इसीलिए इसे इको फ्रैंडली वाहन भी कहा जाता है। पूरी दुनिया में जहाँ एक ओर ईंधन ख़त्म हो रहे है वही वाहनों से वायु प्रदुषण भी एक बड़ी समस्या बानी हुई है। इन सभी के बेहतर विकल्प के रूप में इलेक्ट्रिक वाहनों को देखा जा रहा है।
