Renault Kwid vs Maruti Alto K10: There has been a long standing competition between Kwid and Alto K10 in the entry-level hatchback segment in the Indian auto market. Both the cars are ideal for city roads where low price, easy handling and good mileage are demanded. The Kwid attracts the youth with its SUV-style looks and high ground clearance, while the Alto K10 remains the choice for families and first-time car buyers due to Maruti's reliability, better service network and low maintenance costs.

The price of Kwid starts from ₹ 4.53 lakh, while Alto K10 is available in the market from ₹ 3.70 lakh. Both are 5-seater, but Kwid is slightly longer and wider, which gives better cabin space. Design and interior

The SUV-inspired design of Renault Kwid is the biggest plus. The 184 mm ground clearance, roof rails, skid plates and bold front-rear grille make it tough on bad roads. Length is 3731 mm, width is 1579 mm. The Maruti Alto K10 has more conventional hatchback looks (length 3530 mm), but is compact and easy to park in the city. Its ground clearance is low (about 160 mm). Kwid looks stylish, while Alto K10 is simple and practical.

The cabin of Renault Kwid looks more spacious and modern. 279 liters of boot space is available. The 8-inch touchscreen, good seating and the dark theme are attractive. The interior of the Alto K10 is simple, with 214 liters of boot space, but comfortable with fabric upholstery and a basic layout. Kwid has a more premium feel.

Features and safety

The Kwid gets an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, rear parking sensors and an AMT gearbox in some variants. The Alto K10 has a 7-inch touchscreen, steering-mounted controls and a good infotainment system. Both have basic features like power windows and central locking, but Kwid is slightly ahead.

Alto K10 is better in safety. It has 2-star rating in Global NCAP and 6 airbags along with ABS, EBD, ESP. The Kwid gets a 1-star rating, although it has dual airbags, ABS and some advanced features. Alto K10 is ahead in safety.

Engine and Mileage

Both have 1.0 liter petrol engines. Kwid's engine gives 67-68 bhp power, 91-92 Nm torque. Its mileage is around 21.5-22.3 kmpl. The powertrain of Alto K10 produces 68 bhp power, 89 Nm torque. It is capable of giving a mileage of up to 24.4-24.9 kmpl (petrol). In CNG it goes up to 33+ km/kg. Alto K10 looks more economical and refined, whereas Kwid feels a bit powerful. AMT option is available in both.

Renault India has launched the updated Kwid hatchback in the country with a revised list of features, enhancing its appeal further and raising its competitiveness against the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.

Renault India has launched the 2024 iteration of the Kwid hatchback in the country at a starting price of 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom) alongside its other siblings like Kiger and Triber. While the pricing of the updated Renault Kwid hatchback remains unchanged, the French auto giant has revised the feature list and introduced three new dual-tone exterior shades.

With the launch of the updated Kwid, the RXL(O) variant of the car now comes with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system making it the most affordable hatchback in India with this feature. Also, this variant of the Kwid now comes with an AMT gearbox, making it the most affordable automatic car in India. Renault has also made 14 safety features as standard for the Kwid hatchback.

Renault Kwid competes with rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, which has been one of the bestselling small hatchbacks in India for a long time. Here is a price and specification comparison between the new Kwid and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.

2024 Renault Kwid vs Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: Price

The 2024 Renault Kwid is priced between 4.69 lakh and 6.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), while the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 hatchback is available between 3.99 lakh and 5.96 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The RXL(O) AMT variant of the Renault Kwid is priced at 5.44 lakh (ex-showroom), which makes it the most affordable automatic car in India, while the closest competitor against it is the Maruti Suzuki Alto K120 VXI AGS, which is priced at 5.61 lakh (ex-showroom).

2024 Renault Kwid vs Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: Specification

The updated Renault Kwid remains the same as the previous model on the powertrain front. Under the hood, the 2024 Renault Kwid continues to draw power from a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine that is capable of churning out 67 bhp peak power and 91 Nm of maximum torque. This engine is available with transmission choices of a five-speed manual and an AMT unit.

On the other hand, powering the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is a 1.0-litre K10C petrol engine. This engine is available with transmission options of a five-speed manual unit and an AMT, which the automaker calls Auto Gear Shift or AGS. The Alto K10 hatchback churns out 65 bhp peak power and 89 Nm of maximum torque.

The Alto K10 is available in both petrol-only and petrol-CNG fuel options, while the Renault Kwid has no CNG option. When it comes to power and torque output, the Kwid generates slightly more power and torque than the Alto K10.

Maruti Suzuki is offering heavy discounts on its Arena models in September ahead of the upcoming festive season across India. India’s largest carmaker is offering as many as eight models sold through Arena dealership with discounts and benefits of up to 59,000 based on variants one chooses. The benefits offered by the carmaker include cash discounts, exchange bonuses as well as corporate discounts. The Arena chain of dealerships, which mostly sells the small cars from Maruti Suzuki, recently completed its sixth anniversary during which it has sold around 70 lakh cars.

Maruti Suzuki small cars like WagonR, Swift and Alto K10 are being offered at a discount of more than ₹50,000 in September.

Maruti Suzuki sells nine models through its Arena chain of dealership in India. These cars include the Alto K10, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Ertiga and Eeco. Only the Brezza SUV among these nine is not offered with any discounts. Here is a quick look at how much one can save on each model this month.

Maruti WagonR

Among all the Maruti cars up for discounts in September, the biggest incentives are for those who wants to drive home the WagonR. Maruti Suzuki is offering cash discount of 35,000 besides added benefits like exchange bonus worth 20,000 and corporate discount of 4,000. Maruti is also offering the CNG version of the WagonR with an overall discount of 54,000. This includes cash discount of 30,000.

Maruti Swift

The Swift hatchback is also up for grabs with an overall discount of 55,000. These include cash benefits worth 35,000 cash discount, 20,000 worth exchange bonus and another 5,000 as corporate discount. One should know that these benefits are not applicable on variants of the hatchback. For the ZXi and ZXi +, the cash discount goes down to just 25,000. The exchange bonus amount can be reduced to 15,000 if the model to be sold is more than seven years old.

Maruti Alto K10

The Alto K10, Maruti’s smallest car on offer, is available with big discounts. The car gets overall benefits worth 54,000. These includes cash discount of 35,000 only on the petrol manual variant, 15,000 worth exchange bonus and corporate discount of 4,000. The petrol automatic and the CNG versions of the Alto K10 are offered with cash discount worth 20,000.

Among other models the Celerio, Dzire, Ertiga and Eeco are available with discounts worth between 59,000 and 20,000 this month.
