Citroën Basalt

Citroën has launched the new X Comfort Edition of its popular coupe-SUV Basalt in India. The starting ex-showroom price of Citroën Basalt X Comfort Edition is ₹ 8.75 lakh. This edition is based on the standard model but special focus has been laid on making the cabin more premium, increasing comfort features and personalization. This is the second such model after Aircross Comfort Edition.

Offering a comfortable experience in both city traffic and long drives, this variant is attractive to buyers who want style, comfort and value. Basalt is already known for its bold SUV-coupe design, spacious cabin and good performance. The new edition makes it more premium. Let's take a look at its design, engine and performance details.

Design and interior

There has not been much change in its exterior. Like the standard Basalt, it comes with a bold SUV-coupe silhouette, sculpted piano black grille, signature chevron logo, LED vision projector headlamps, 3D effect tail lamps and urban diamond-cut alloy wheels. This design gives an urban and confident look.

The main attraction of the Comfort Edition is the interior. Leatherette seats are now standard, giving the cabin a rich and upmarket feel. For the first time in the segment, Lama leatherette seats and tilt cushion with thigh support have been provided. The cabin feels more luxurious with winged rear headrests, ambient lighting and premium materials. The class-leading cabin space and 470 liters of boot space make it perfect for family use.

Features and safety

The company is offering curated comfort AXS packs, which include JBL premium audio, 10-inch Android touchscreen, front + cabin dash camera (with predictive safety alerts), reverse parking camera, wireless charger, etc. Features like 7-inch TFT cluster, wireless connectivity, CARA intelligent voice assistant and cruise control are also available. These packs give buyers the freedom to choose the features as per their needs. It comes with standard safety features like 6 airbags, ESP, ABS, EBD, hill hold.

Engine and Performance

It is available with 1.2-litre petrol engine options. It can be bought with naturally aspirated (82 PS, 115 Nm, 5-speed MT) and turbo (110 PS, 190/205 Nm, 6-speed MT/AT) engines. ARAI claimed mileage ranges from 18-19.5 kmpl. It is perfect for urban driving. Its 180 mm ground clearance and good wheelbase (2651 mm) make it a good option for Indian roads.

Citroen India has finally taken the wraps off of its new vehicle for the Indian market. It is called Basalt and it will go on sale in the second half of 2024. The new SUV Coupe will first go on sale in India and South America. Citroen Basalt will be the third car to come from the C-Cubed program which has earlier spawned C3 and C3 Aircross.

The C-cube program is specifically developed for emerging markets such as India and South America. The brand wanted to develop cars that were efficient and affordable so that it could expand its footprint.

Citroen will use bright colours and sharp contrasts so that the silhouette of the Basalt stands out. This is important as the Basalt will be the most affordable SUV Coupe in the Indian market. So, it will offer the practicality of an SUV but with the styling elements of a coupe. “We are delighted to unveil the third opus of this program designed to drive Citroën’s international growth. Local teams are strongly committed to deliver in the coming months this innovative concept of an SUV Coupé that exudes bold design, space inside and unique onboard comfort. Developed and produced locally, we are confident that Basalt will appeal to a large number of customers and strengthen our position in major markets. We can’t wait to tell you more about it in middle of the year.” Thierry Koskas – Citroën CEO

Citroen has not confirmed the powertrain for the Basalt. However, considering that it is based on the C-cube program, it is expected that there will be the same engine on duty that is being used for the C3 Aircross. It is a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine that puts out 108 bhp of max power at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque output of 205 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm with the 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The torque output falls to 190 Nm at 1,750 rpm with the 6-speed manual gearbox.
