Kia Sonet 2024 Facelift Expected Price Range With Logic (Updated)

Kia Sonet 2024 Facelift Expected Price Range With Logic (Updated)

Update (Dec 21, 2023): After carefully analysing the brochure and variant wise features of the Sonet 2024, we have updated the expected prices of the Sonet facelift. Please note that these are our estimations based on the information available as of December 21, 2023. We’re not expecting to modify these prices anymore. So, you can consider this as the final revision from our side to the Sonet 2024 expected prices.

2024 Kia Sonet Facelift Expected Price

As we saw with the Seltos facelift, we’re not expecting any significant price revisions. At the time of the launch, even the Seltos facelift didn’t add too much to the old Seltos price. Even with the addition of ADAS, dual-zone auto AC and a larger sunroof, the prices were only mildly higher than the older model.

We’re not expecting Kia to disrupt the market with the Sonet facelift either. So, we should see a marginal increase at best in the Sonet facelift’s prices over the outgoing model. However, we also have to keep in mind the feature revisions. Every single variant of the new Sonet gets a few extra features. The 2024 Sonet price expectation following table takes all of these factors into account:

The only notable thing here is that the Sonet facelift is getting a new diesel-manual powertrain, which wasn’t available earlier. This will help them keep the starting prices for Sonet diesel buyers under control as it won’t get the auto-clutch manual transmission.

Even with the addition of ADAS features in the 2024 Sonet top model shouldn’t increase the prices too much. We noted with the Seltos facelift that even with so many extra features in the top model, the launch prices still respected the Rs. 20.0 lakh price barrier. While Tata have already breached it with the Nexon diesel-automatic, we still expect Kia to mind it. Unlike Tata, we have seen sensible pricing from Kia in the past and we’re confident that even with the Sonet 2024, we should get a reasonable price tag for most of the variants.

Thus, we expect the Sonet 2024 facelift to cost between Rs. 8.0 lakh and Rs. 15.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

Now, let’s evaluate each variant one by one to see how much it could cost. For this estimation, we’ll use the old Sonet’s prices as the baseline. Then, we’ll see the feature changes and add the appropriate perceived value for the features. Here, we’ll also take into account any other considerations like round figures and Kia’s historical pricing strategy to get to a final price. 2024 Kia Sonet HTE Expected Price Logic

In the base model, you get almost Rs. 35,000 worth of features but you also lose some basic features. Net, the new Sonet base model adds about Rs. 30,000 worth of features over the outgoing model. To keep the prices under Rs. 8.0 lakh, we expect Kia to ask for another Rs. 20,000 for this model.

As for the HTE diesel-manual, this powertrain is new for the Sonet. But the Sonet diesel-ACMT was earlier available for Rs. 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom). With the lack of auto-clutch manual, we can expect it to make up for the additional features and maintain a sub-Rs. 10.0 lakh starting price.

Kia Sonet 2024 HTK Expected Price Logic

The HTK variant adds almost Rs. 40,000 worth of features. So, we’re expecting the new Sonet to deliver better value here by only asking for Rs. 30,000 more. This way, the petrol variants price will remain (barely) under Rs. 9.0 lakh while the diesel-manual can respect the Rs. 11.0 lakh psychological barrier.

Here again, the older 1.2L petrol to diesel price gap can remain at Rs. 2.0 lakh. The lack of auto-clutch (IMT) will help compensate for the costs of adding extra features.

Kia Sonet Facelift HTK Plus Expected Price With Logic

The Sonet 2024 HTK Plus variant adds about Rs. 12,000 – 15,000 worth of features. But the price gap could be higher than that. The Sonet HTK Plus 1.2L petrol could cost Rs. 9.90 lakh and remain below the Rs. 10.0 lakh psychological barrier.

Meanwhile, the jump to the turbo petrol is easier to justify as it may only cost Rs. 80,000 more. Not only does it offer more power and better drivability, it does so without compromising on the fuel efficiency. Not to mention, the inclusion of auto-clutch manual transmission makes it almost as good as an automatic in crawling traffic.

This variant may maintain a turbo petrol to diesel price gap of Rs. 1.0 lakh. While it was only Rs. 90,000 before, we expect Kia to keep this variant a little pricey so that the jump to diesel-ACMT comes across as more reasonable. With this strategy, regardless of whether the buyer chooses HTK Plus diesel-MT or the HTX diesel-ACMT, Kia will stand to make a better profit.

New Kia Sonet HTX Expected Price With Logic

The HTX variant of the Sonet 2024 could cost Rs. 11.70 lakh with the turbo petrol-ACMT powertrain. This price is Rs. 25,000 higher than before as it also gets almost Rs. 30,000 worth of additional features than before.

The gap from petrol-ACMT to petrol-automatic will be higher than before as it also gets some Rs. 25,000 – 30,000 worth of additional features. Similarly, these extra features are also available with the diesel-ACMT and diesel-automatic powertrains but not with the diesel-manual. This move will also encourage buyers to skip the diesel-MT and go with the diesel-ACMT for better value.

Kia Sonet Facelift GTX Plus Expected Price With Logic

The GTX Plus variant is where you can expect to see some real fireworks. Because of the ADAS features, the value proposition just jumps through the roof. Since they are using cameras to enable ADAS, the cost of implementation is low. But, the real-world benefits are immense if it ends up working as intended.

We feel like this variant will offer a perceived value of almost Rs. 1.0 lakh with the ADAS features while costing only a little more. Keeping the prices per our expectations will also allow Kia to keep the GTX Plus variants under the psychological barrier of Rs. 14.0 lakh for the petrol-automatic and Rs. 15.0 lakh for the diesel-automatic.

Why 2024 Sonet Facelift Won’t Cost More Than Rs. 15.0 Lakh?

It’s worth noting that the Nexon was the first car in the B2-SUV space to blow through the Rs. 15.0 lakh psychological price barrier. It offers such poor value and feature distribution that we couldn’t recommend even a single variant of the car.

So, it’s not unrealistic to expect the Sonet to also do so. However, we’re still betting on Kia to approach the Sonet 2024 with a sensible pricing strategy and bring it back in the game with a bang. We’re pretty confident that this pricing will help the Sonet achieve consistent 5-figure monthly dispatch numbers and turn on some heat on the low value-for-money offerings like the Nexon.

Toyota Taisor Expected Price Variant-Wise Calculation (Updated)

Toyota Taisor Expected Price Variant-Wise Calculation (Updated)

In this article, we’ll estimate the variant-wise ex-showroom price of the upcoming Urban Cruiser Taisor SUV — Toyota’s upcoming small SUV to compete against Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and Maruti Fronx. We’ll explain the logic behind the calculations in the Taisor expected price table and support our conclusions. As and when we get more information affecting our estimations about the Toyota Taisor price, we’ll update our estimations to accommodate new findings.

Important Note: Toyota haven’t yet confirmed the Taisor for the Indian market. Considering the rumours that the Taisor could be Toyota’s version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, we’re fairly confident that the Taisor may materialise sometime before the 2023 festivities start. In fact, it may just pop out of nowhere on a fine day like the Rumion did. So, with the assumptions out of the way, let’s dive into the price estimations.

If you’re not interested in getting to know how we arrived at these numbers, then the following table will quickly give you our estimates of the Toyota Taisor price:

Toyota Taisor — Powertrain/Engine Options

So far, we have seen that any Maruti Suzuki car that ends up with a Toyota badge retains the same powertrain options. In fact, in these cars, even the variant lineup has significant-to-full overlap with Maruti Suzuki cars. Only the variant names are different. The most prominent examples are Baleno-Glanza, Ertiga-Rumion and Vitara-Hyryder. In these cases, we have also noticed that the Toyota cars even retain the same feature distribution making it operationally efficient for the 2 brands to serve different customers with minimal overhead expenses besides the visual touch ups.

For the Taisor, we’re expecting to see the same wine in the same bottle with only a different label. This means that we are likely see the following 5 powertrain options for the Taisor:

  • 1.2L normal petrol with 5-speed manual transmission
  • 1.2L normal petrol with 5-speed AMT automatic transmission
  • 1.2L normal CNG bi-fuel with 5-speed manual transmission
  • 1.0L turbo petrol with 5-speed manual transmission
  • 1.0L turbo petrol with 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission

Toyota Taisor Variants

Just like the Baleno, we’re expecting to see 4 main variants of the Taisor besides the one Plus variant. It’s also fairly safe to assume that Toyota will follow the same variant naming as the Glanza as the Fronx itself is based on the Baleno hatchback.

We’re expecting to see the following 5 Toyota Taisor variant names:

Rumion Effect

With the Rumion prices, we have seen that Toyota are lightening the demand side to balance the supply-demand equation as it’s too heavy right now. With the Fronx, we have seen that the car is in high demand and beginning to consistently hit a 10,000+ units sales figure every month despite carrying considerably higher than expected prices. So, Toyota have a good amount of breathing room to hike prices further to puff up their profit margins and pay Maruti Suzuki the royalty for borrowing their product and R&D.

Nexon Effect

With the Nexon, we have seen Tata push the envelope further as it became the first B2 segment SUV to cross the psychological barrier of Rs. 15.0 lakh. Hence, even if Toyota push the prices of the Taisor beyond where the Fronx’s stand right now, they will come across as value for money in comparison to the Nexon’s. At Rs. 12.0 lakh for the top model with the turbo petrol-manual powertrain, the Taisor will have a strong footing to challenge the Nexon Creative Plus. Even with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 11.70 lakh, the Nexon Creative Plus petrol-manual, it still feels incomplete as it doesn’t get front and rear armrests.

Toyota Effect

There are a lot of buyers who value a smooth ownership experience and long-term reliability a lot more than the fancy features and styling. The moment the Fronx gets the Toyota badge, it brings along Toyota’s trust in the product and their support throughout the ownership.

Not only is the new Nexon far from achieving quality levels comparable with a Toyota product, their 7-speed DCT is also a piece of first gen hardware. Toyota Taisor, on the other hand, will bring a tried and trusted torque converter type automatic with refinement levels you won’t find in a Tata R&D transmission anytime soon. Despite an inefficient torque converter automatic, the Taisor will deliver far better fuel efficiency figures than the Nexon in the real world. It’s, after all, a Maruti Suzuki product behind the Toyota logo. Moreover, it has the torque to offer similar drivability as the Nexon as it has less weight to haul.

Maruti Fronx Vs Toyota Taisor – Price Comparison

Before I go off the rails on an unrelated tangent, let’s pivot back to our Taisor’s expected prices and compare them with the Fronx. Just like the Baleno-Glanza and Ertiga-Rumion, we can expect the Taisor’s starting prices to remain closer to the Fronx while higher variants could deviate a fair bit like the Rumion did.

We expect the Taisor 1.2L petrol-manual variants to cost between Rs. 7.60 lakh and Rs. 9.0 lakh. The 2 AMT variants of the Taisor could cost Rs. 9.0 lakh and Rs. 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The Taisor turbo petrol manual range could start from Rs. 10.0 lakh and stretch up to Rs. 12.0 lakh. With the turbo petrol engine and an automatic transmission, the Taisor’s top 2 variants could cost Rs. 12.50 lakh and Rs. 13.50 lakh. Finally, the Taisor E and S CNG variants could carry an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 8.55 lakh and Rs. 9.45 lakh, respectively.

With these prices, the Taisor will have at least one turbo petrol variant (barely) under Rs. 10.0 lakh. Moreover, it’ll have the 2 petrol-AMT and CNG-manual variants well under Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-showroom) price. The turbo petrol with the manual and automatic transmission will have no trouble maintaining its premium appeal as it’ll mostly hover well over the Rs. 10.0 lakh limit.

Most importantly, with the Taisor, Toyota will once again have a presence in the B2-SUV space. It’s one of the hottest segments right now and if they bring the Taisor ahead of the festive season, then they can capitalise on the festive shopping spree and steal some sales from other brands as well.

Tata Curvv 2024 Price Expectation – With Logic (Petrol, Diesel)

Tata Curvv 2024 Price Expectation – With Logic (Petrol, Diesel)

In this article, we’ll estimate the variant-wise ex-showroom price of the upcoming Curvv SUV — Tata’s new coupe SUV to rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand VItara and other C-segment SUVs. We’ll explain the logic behind the calculations along with the reasons to support our conclusions in the Curvv expected price table. As and when we get more information affecting our estimations about the Tata Curvv price, we’ll update this article to accommodate new findings.

2024 Tata Curvv Price — Expected Price Range Summary

If you trust our logic or don’t have the time to go deep into the details of how we arrived at the final price range of the Curvv, then the following table should suffice:

2024 TATA CURVV PRICE RANGE

EXPECTED EX-SHOWROOM PRICE (NOVEMBER 18, 2023)

Powertrain

Expected Price

1.2L Turbo Petrol-Manual

Rs. 11.0 lakh – Rs. 17.0 lakh

1.2L Turbo Petrol-Auto (DCT)

Rs. 14.0 lakh – Rs. 18.50 lakh

1.5L Turbo Petrol-Manual

Rs. 16.50 lakh – Rs. 19.0 lakh

1.5L Turbo Petrol-Auto (DCT)

Rs. 18.0 lakh – Rs. 21.0 lakh

1.5L Turbo Diesel-Manual

Rs. 12.50 lakh – 19.50 lakh

We’re expecting the 2024 Curvv’s 1.2L turbo petrol-manual variants to cost between Rs. 11.0 lakh and Rs. 17.0 lakh (ex-showroom). The Curvv’s 1.2L turbo petrol variants with DCT automatic transmission could start from Rs. 14.0 lakh and go up to Rs. 18.50 lakh while carrying a premium of about Rs. 1.30 lakh for the automatic transmission.

The more powerful 1.5L turbo petrol engine could carry a premium of Rs. 1.0 lakh over the smaller turbo petrol engine. The 1.5L turbo petrol-manual variants prices could range from Rs. 16.50 lakh to Rs. 19.0 lakh. Here too, the automatic transmission could carry a premium of about Rs. 1.30 lakh thus stretching the tentative price range from Rs. 18.0 lakh to Rs. 21.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 1.5L turbo diesel engine may only get the manual transmission. The Curvv diesel variants could cost between Rs. 12.50 lakh and Rs. 19.0 lakh.

V3Cars’ History Of Wins And Losses With Tata Cars

If you have followed our price reaction articles and videos for a while, you’d know that we tend to get the starting price pretty accurately for Tata cars. In case you haven’t seen our track record, you can visit the following links:

New-Gen Tata Nexon Price Reaction — Expected Vs Launch Price

2023 Tata Harrier Price Reaction — Expected Vs Launch Price

Tata Safari Facelift Price Reaction — Expected Vs Launch Price

You’ll notice a pattern in our price predictions for Tata cars. We tend to get the starting and lower variant prices quite well but our optimism takes over with higher trims. We expect Tata to be somewhat reasonable and they end up disappointing. This is even after we factor in their confidence. They show us a new level of confidence — or should I call it arrogance.

2 Sides To The Problem — How We Arrived At Rs. 11.0 Lakh Starting Price? — Curvv Base Model Expected Price

On the one hand, Tata are looking extremely confident in their offerings. Thus, the prices of their higher trims end up pushing new limits. The Nexon breached the Rs. 15.0 lakh limit — a first for a B2 SUV. The Harrier and Safari breached the Rs. 25.0 lakh barrier. With an ex-showroom price of Rs. 26.57, only the XUV700’s top variant with diesel-automatic powertrain and 4WD decisively breaches this limit. The 2WD version barely crosses it. Meanwhile, we have the Safari top model carrying an ex-showroom price of Rs. 27.34 lakh without a 4WD system. If that’s not arrogance, I don’t know what is.

On the other hand, we have the Curvv entering a segment with multiple big dogs. The Creta, Seltos and Grand Vitara have their feet welded in the C-SUV space with each car crossing the 10,000 monthly deliveries each. So, Tata aren’t just going against a segment leader. They have 3 established segment leaders.

Now, they may not have so much experience fighting off rivals in the D segment. But they sure have experience establishing a stronghold in the dense B2 SUV space. The Nexon managed to carve out a space for itself when EcoSport and Brezza were the top players. Sonet and Venue later attempted to cause some damage but failed to put a dent in Nexon’s popularity.

Moreover, Tata tend to keep the starting prices fairly reasonable. So, we don’t expect much deviation from the segment norm, which is about Rs. 11.0 lakh base price for a C-SUV.

Tata Curvv 2024 Top Model Expected Price

On the upper limit, the price of Rs. 21.0 lakh may not seem much like Tata’s as they usually blow through all established norms. But, this time, they have some serious competition. So, they may just keep their “confidence” in check and cap the Curvv’s launch price at Rs. 21.0 lakh for the 1.5L turbo petrol engine. Although, the larger engine may not become available at launch as the DCT might need more time with the 225Nm engine (new 1.2L turbo petrol) before doing duty with the 280Nm engine (1.5L turbo petrol).

Maruti Suzuki Swift 2024 Price Expectation – With Logic

Maruti Suzuki Swift 2024 Price Expectation – With Logic

In this article, we’ll estimate the variant-wise ex-showroom price of the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift. We’ll explain the logic behind the calculations along with the reasons to support our conclusions in the Swift 2024 expected price article. As and when we get more information affecting our estimations about the 2024 Maruti Swift price, we’ll update this article to accommodate new findings.

Maruti Swift 2024 Variants

There are no points for guessing this part. Obviously, it’ll get the same LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI Plus variants. A few of them will get the CNG bi-fuel option just like it’s right now.

In addition, the Swift could also get a couple of Sport or RS variants with the turbo petrol engine. Meanwhile, we’re fairly confident that the Swift won’t get the hybrid powertrain option. To find out why we think the Swift will get a turbo but not a hybrid, you can go through the following article: Maruti Suzuki’s Next-Gen 2024 Swift Tentative Launch Timeline

How We Arrived At Rs. 6.35 Lakh Starting Price For The New Swift 2024?

When I was going through the launch prices of every new generation Swift, I noticed a funny pattern. The 2nd gen Swift’s launch price for the base variant was about 9% higher than the launch price of the 1st gen Swift base trim’s launch price. The 3rd gen Swift’s base model launch price was about 18% higher than the 2nd gen Swift’s starting price at the time of introduction.

MARUTI SWIFT GENERATION – GENERATION

BASE MODEL LAUNCH PRICE COMPARISON

Rs. 3.87 lakh – 1st Gen (2005 model)

+9%

Rs. 4.22 lakh – 2nd Gen (2011 model)

+18%

Rs. 4.99 lakh – 3rd Gen (2018 model)

+?%

4th Gen (2024 model)

With that in mind, it appears that the 4th gen Swift could cost either 27% more than 3rd gen Swift’s base model launch price or 36%. 27% would mean that the pattern adds 9% to the base model’s launch price for every subsequent generation update. That’s 9% → 18% and 18% → 27%. Meanwhile, 36% sounds reasonable if you go by the logic of doubling the percentage. As in, 9% → 18% and 18% → 36%.

Regardless of which one you choose, it sounds pretty absurd. Initially, I was inclined to believe that it may just retain the 18% jump but then I checked the current prices of the Swift, which are already 20% higher than the launch prices. When I added 27% to the current gen Swift’s base model launch price, I got to Rs. 6.337 lakh. Considering that we still have almost an entire year before the 2024 Swift’s launch, we should expect a 5.5% hike just to keep up with the inflation.

Since the 27% jump sounds like the most plausible scenario, we’re going with it and assuming a starting price of Rs. 6.35 lakh for the 2024 Swift.

Maruti Swift 2024 Expected Price Range

Once we have a baseline or starting price, it’s fairly easy to estimate the prices of the higher variants using the current variants as a benchmark. Naturally, as we move up the variant lineup, we’ll also have to add higher markup in terms of absolute price to adjust for inflation.

Thus, we end up with a price range of Rs. 6.35 lakh to Rs. 11.30 lakh for the 2024 Swift. The 1.2L normal petrol manual range could cost between Rs. 6.35 lakh and Rs. 8.80 lakh. The AMT automatic variants could carry a Rs. 60,000 premium and cost between Rs. 7.95 lakh and Rs. 9.40 lakh (ex-showroom). Currently, the price premium for the AMT is Rs. 55,000. But we’re expecting a hike in this premium in the 4 quarters that remain between now and the launch of the new Swift. Similarly, we expect the premium for CNG to go up from Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 95,000. That would make the VXI and ZXI CNG models cost Rs. 8.30 lakh and Rs. 8.95 lakh, respectively.

Since we’re also expecting to see the 1.0L turbo petrol engine in the Swift 2024, we’ll use the Fronx as the baseline. With the Fronx, we’ve seen a Rs. 1.0 lakh premium for the turbo petrol engine over the 1.2L normal petrol. So, if we get a turbo petrol engine in the Swift’s top 2 trims, they should end up costing Rs. 9.0 lakh and Rs. 9.80 lakh. A sub-Rs. 10.0 lakh price for a fully-loaded variant of a Maruti car with a turbo petrol engine will make it exciting for several buyers.

On top of that, the premium for a 6-speed torque converter automatic in the 2 Swift turbo petrol variants brings us to an estimated ex-showroom price of Rs. 10.50 lakh and Rs. 11.30 lakh for the ZXI and ZXI Plus turbo automatic, respectively.

Tata Punch EV Expected Price – With Logic | V3Cars

In this article, we’ll estimate the ex-showroom price range of the new Punch EV 2023 — Tata’s upcoming electric SUV in the B1 segment. It will compete with other affordable electric cars like the MG Comet EV, Citroen eC3, Tata Tigor EV and Tata Tiago EV. We’ll explain the logic behind the expected price along with the reasons to support our estimations. As and when we get more information affecting our Tata Punch EV price estimations, we’ll update this article to accommodate new findings.

Since the Punch and the Tigor share the petrol powertrain options, we should expect the Punch EV and Tigor EV to also have similar specs. That means a power output of 75PS and a torque figure of 170Nm.

In terms of range, the heavy kerb weight of the Punch EV could also impact its efficiency. Tata have maintained a range of at least 300km with all of their electric cars. The Tiago EV medium-range is the only exception and even in this car’s case, there’s an option of long range with 314km of range.

Assuming that the Punch EV gives a range of 310 – 320km with an efficiency of 11.5kmpu, it should get a 27 – 28kWh battery pack. 1-2kWh of extra battery should help it cope with the slightly higher kerb weight and a less aerodynamic body style.

Petrol Vs Electric — Price Comparison

The jump from a comparable petrol car to electric costs around Rs. 4.0 lakh in the case of the Tiago. For the Tigor, the jump from petrol-automatic to EV is around Rs. 4.80 lakh. For the Comet EV, we don’t have a petrol-automatic version to form a baseline.

However, in the case of the Citroen C3, the jump from 1.2L normal petrol to electric powertrain will cost you around Rs. 3.50 lakh. Please note that the petrol C3 doesn’t get an automatic transmission. The eC3 will work just like an automatic as it doesn’t need gear changes. Once you factor the cost of an affordable AMT automatic, you’ll get a tentative price jump of Rs. 4.0 lakh for the eC3.

Tata Punch EV — Expected Price Summary

Assuming that the Punch electric won’t get a barebones base variant, we should expect the Punch EV to start with a variant comparable with the Punch Adventure. With an estimated Rs. 4.0 lakh price jump for the electric powertrain over the petrol-automatic, we end up with an estimated starting price of Rs. 11.50 lakh for the Punch EV.

On the higher side, it could stretch up to Rs. 14.0 lakh, which is about Rs. 4.0 lakh more than the Creative Flagship automatic. A price range of Rs. 11.50 lakh to Rs. 14.0 lakh will put it squarely in competition with the Citroen eC3.

They’re both affordable SUV/crossover options but the Citroen C3 is a larger car than the Punch. Meanwhile, the Punch EV is likely to have a higher ground clearance to justify the SUV tag and make up for the smaller dimensions. The eC3 has a ground clearance of 170mm.

Please note that we’re expecting the Punch EV to maintain the status quo of costing around Rs. 4.0 lakh more than the comparable petrol-automatic variant. Even in the case of the Nexon petrol-automatic and Nexon EV Prime, the price gap is around Rs. 4.0 lakh only.

With our price estimates, the Punch EV will plug the gap between the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV Prime in Tata’s electric vehicle portfolio. Meanwhile, an SUV body style should make it quite popular too. In my opinion, Rs. 15.0 lakh (on-road) for a car the size of Punch is quite a lot of money. Moreover, even on the cost savings side, the equation is likely to remain just as absurd. With fuel cost savings, EVs currently take around 1,00,000km to recover the higher cost you’re paying upfront.

Toyota Rumion Expected Price – Variant-Wise Calculation With Logic

Toyota Rumion Expected Price – Variant-Wise Calculation With Logic

In this article, we’ll estimate the variant-wise ex-showroom price of the upcoming Rumion — Toyota’s new MPV to rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Kia Carens and Nexa XL6. We’ll explain the logic behind the calculations along with the reasons to support our estimations. As and when we get more information affecting our Toyota Rumion price estimations, we’ll update this article to accommodate new findings.

Toyota Rumion — Powertrain/Engine Options

In one glance, you could tell that the Toyota Rumion is essentially the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga with some Toyota design elements all around.

Toyota Rumion Variants & Price Range

The Rumion will come in 3 variants – S, G and V. The base, S variant, will offer CNG-manual, petrol-manual and petrol-automatic powertrains. Since this is based on the Ertiga’s VXI variant, we expect it to cost Rs. 10.0 lakh with the petrol-manual powertrain. The CNG could cost another Rs. 1.0 lakh or so while the automatic could cost Rs. 1.30 lakh more.

The mid-spec G variant with the petrol-manual powertrain could cost Rs. 1.0 lakh more and carry an ex-showroom price of Rs. 11.0 lakh.

The top-spec V variant of the Rumion will come with petrol-manual and petrol-automatic powertrains. With the petrol-manual powertrain, it could cost Rs. 11.70 lakh while the automatic could cost Rs. 13.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota Rumion S Expected Price – Rs. 10.0 Lakh (Petrol MT), Rs. 11.0 Lakh (CNG MT), Rs. 11.30 Lakh (Petrol AT)

The Toyota Rumion starts from the S variant. It’s the VXI equivalent of the Maruti Ertiga. We aren’t missing the Ertiga LXI-equivalent variant of the Rumion as it doesn’t get several features, which are a must-have for a car of this size. So, we don’t recommend anyone to buy the Ertiga LXI and we wouldn’t have suggested our audience to buy the Rumion E either if it existed.

The Rumion S is available with 3 powertrain options — petrol-manual, petrol-automatic and CNG-manual. Here’s the list of Ertiga’s VXI variant ex-showroom prices:

Petrol-manual

Rs. 9,78,000

Difference

Rs. 1,50,000

Petrol-automatic

Rs. 11,28,000

This variant of the Ertiga sells in good numbers. So, Toyota may not feel the need to market this one aggressively. Since the Rumion is essentially a Maruti R&D product, we should expect the Toyota version to carry a slight premium to give the Ertiga some breathing room.

Rumion

Thus, we expect the Rumion with the petrol-manual powertrain to cost close to Rs. 10.0 lakh. This price will give the car a good starting price of (barely) under Rs. 10.0 lakh. Moreover, it’ll help Toyota to share part of the profits with Maruti Suzuki as they are sourcing the Rumion from them and using their R&D.

For the CNG, we expect Toyota to charge close to Rs. 1.0 lakh, thus stretching the S CNG variant’s price to Rs. 11.0 lakh. Here too, they can maintain a good Rs. 25,000-odd price premium to avoid an overlap with the Ertiga VXI.

For the torque converter automatic transmission, Toyota charge Rs. 1.20 lakh with Hyryder over the comparable petrol-manual variants. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki charge Rs. 1.50 lakh. But, Toyota aren’t doing charity with a lower premium for the automatic transmission. Their Hyryder manual variants are so expensive that the automatic comes across as a decent value. It tells us that Toyota are more interested in pushing the automatic transmission to the consumers.

Hence, we expect the Toyota Rumion S variant with the petrol-automatic to cost about the same as the Ertiga. Given Toyota’s high brand presence among fleet buyers, Toyota may manage to attract a good number of customers even with a higher price tag.

Here’s a look at the Ertiga VXI variant’s prices and what we expect the Toyota Rumion to cost:

Toyota Rumion G Expected Price – Rs. 11.0 Lakh (Petrol MT)

The Toyota Rumion G variant will only come with the petrol-manual powertrain. It could cost Rs. 11.0 lakh, which is Rs. 12,000 higher than the Ertiga ZXI.

Rumion

Toyota Rumion V Expected Price – Rs. 11.70 lakh (Petrol MT), Rs. 13.0 Lakh (Petrol AT)

The Toyota Rumion V variant is the ZXI Plus equivalent of the Ertiga. If you buy the Ertiga ZXI Plus, then it’ll cost you Rs. 11.58 lakh with the petrol-manual and Rs. 13.08 lakh with the petrol-automatic powertrain.

Here too, we expect Toyota to maintain some premium over the Ertiga with the manual transmission. So, the Rumion V petrol-manual could cost Rs. 11.70 lakh, thus costing Rs. 12,000 more than the Ertiga VXI petrol-manual.

In terms of the automatic transmission, assuming a Rs. 1.30 lakh premium for the same, the V variant could cost Rs. 13.0 lakh, which actually makes it Rs. 8,000 cheaper than the Ertiga ZXI Plus auto. If you’re wondering how that is possible then here’s my explanation:

The Ertiga is a popular product among fleet owners and commercial vehicle buyers. So, the higher end variants end up selling in low-to-negligible numbers. The top-spec variants are the ones that bring in bigger profits as the margins are higher. Given Toyota’s higher brand value, they may have an easier time selling the top variant, that too with the automatic transmission. Therefore, offering a slight price advantage over the Ertiga’s top model may make the Rumion V automatic a desirable option for potential MPV buyers.

Rumion

2023 Toyota Rumion Expected Price Summary

The base variant of the Toyota Rumion with the CNG-manual powertrain could cost Rs. 11.0 lakh. The petrol-manual variants could cost between Rs. 10.0 lakh and Rs. 11.70 lakh. The S and V variants with the petrol-automatic powertrain could cost Rs. 11.30 lakh and Rs. 13.0 lakh, respectively.
