Volvo EX60 confirmed for global debut on January 21: Is India calling?

Volvo EX60 confirmed for global debut on January 21: Is India calling?

  • The Volvo EX60 will launch globally on January 21, 2026. Based on the new SPA3 platform, it features the latest Superset tech stack and minimal design language.

The Volvo EX60 will be the first electric model from the Swedish carmaker to debut on the new SPA3 architecture with the Superset tech stack.

Volvo Cars has confirmed that it will officially debut the EX60 all-electric SUV for global markets on January 21, 2026. The upcoming Volvo EX60 is the electric iteration of the XC60 SUV, and it will be the first model to be built on the Swedish brand's new modular SPA3 architecture with a superset tech stack that debuted on the EX90 flagship. With its launch, Volvo can now fill the gap between the compact EX30 SUV and the three-row EX90.

Volvo EX60: Design and interior expectations

A recent teaser image displays design cues that are clearly Volvo. The EX60 carries over the overall silhouette of the ICE-powered XC60 with a long front section, featuring its Thor-Hammer LEDs. The general design language is expected to align with the recently launched EX30 SUV, which will feature a bold, minimalist look with a closed-off front grille, bonnet louvers and pronounced wheel arches.

The interiors of the EX60 will also be significantly modernized with a clean design that makes very limited use of physical buttons in favor of touch-capacitive controls. In typical Volvo fashion, the dashboard is likely to be equipped with a vertically-mounted central infotainment display with navigation, media and climate controls. Drivers are expected to benefit from a multi-function steering wheel with touch-capacitive controls and a slim cluster display mounted directly on the steering column in place of the traditional digital cluster.

Volvo EX60: Software-defined EV architecture

The Volvo EX60's SPA3 platform is said to be highly modular and scalable, and is further enhanced by the Superset tech stack, which will form the backbone of future all-electric Volvos. While the platform itself brings lower production costs as well as more core computing capabilities, the tech stack aims to take it a step further with its modular design. It consists of a set of hardware and software components that can be arranged in different ways to create an SUV. “Each of our new cars will be a selection or subset of the building blocks from the superset tech stack,” Volvo Cars previously said.

This modular approach will not only enable the carmaker to improve its models and technology over time, but will also help it produce cars of all sizes from the same technological base. Modularity is projected to improve cash flow by reducing investment and R&D costs. The Volvo EX60 is set to lead the brand's new EV technology strategy with its all-new architecture and will be built at the company's Torslanda plant in Gothenburg, with production starting in early 2026.

We expect the EX60 to reach India soon after its global launch next year. Volvo currently sells the EC40, EX40 and EX30 SUVs as part of its EV lineup on our shores, and will also soon launch the EX90 flagship SUV. The upcoming EX60 will then be positioned between the EX30 and EX90

Hyundai dropped the first teaser of a new concept model for debut at IAA Mobility Show 2025 in Munich, Germany on 9 September 2025. While the details are fully wrapped, the concept is expected to enter the production of the IONIQ 2 nameplate. The upcoming Hyundai IonIQ 2 Compact EV was first tested in July 2025, which was ready for production.

Teaser images reveal a design that recently persists to the IONIQ 6 facelift, with the upcoming model bearing smooth, with LED strips connected to the headlights and tail lamps. While the IONIQ cars typically embrace a crossover shape, the IonIQ 2 will feature a hatchback silhouette with a fastback-style rear end, which is rounded by an integrated dutby spiler.

Images perform large air interactions on front bumper, a major nose design and flared-out fender. The overall size appears to be similar to the camouflage prototype, but the concept will debut with a separate set of a bodykit and wheels.

Hyundai Ioniq 2: Expected Battery & Range

Hyundai Ioniq 2 is being developed in association with Kia EV2, in which two models share many features and components. Compact EV can be outlined by a low-level, front-wheel drive version of the eV-only e-GMP platform, similar to the 400V architecture that reduces the large Kia EV3. While Kia sells its crossover with 58.3 kwh and 81.4 kWh options, IonIQ 2 is expected to be limited to a small unit. An FWD Drivetrain with a small battery will allow Hyundai to adapt the cost in its effort to make mass-market EV.

When it comes to the limit, EV3 currently offers a single-charge of up to 605 km with its largest battery pack, excluding the torque of 201 BHP and 283 Nm. IonIQ 2 is expected to be slightly less than that, while still bringing decent figures for urban traffic.

Honda Motor aims to double the driving range of its electric cars by the end of 2020 when they begin adopting all-solid-state batteries, a new type of power source under development, the head of its research unit said Wednesday. Said to.

All-solid-state batteries, replacing liquid-state lithium-ion batteries, will yield double the driving range by the end of this decade and more than 2.5 times that by the 2040s, said Keiji Otsu, president of Honda R&D.

Automakers and battery suppliers around the world unveiled plans to develop solid-state batteries, billed as a key technology to create longer-lasting, safer and cheaper electric vehicles amid a slowdown in EV development Is.

“This is a game-changer for the EV era,” Otsu told reporters at Honda's pilot all-solid-state battery production line in Tochigi, north of Tokyo. Honda is investing 43 billion yen ($277 million) in the Pilot Line, about half of which is funded by Japanese government subsidies.

Otsu said Honda will begin operating a pilot line in January, with the goal of reducing battery size by 50 percent, weight by 35 percent and costs by 25 percent from current levels over the next half decade.

Stellantis said Tuesday it will deploy a new vehicle system that will support assembly of gasoline, hybrid and electric models, but in a sign of how turbulent the electric-vehicle transition is, the automaker also announced plans to ramp up production of Ram electric pickup trucks. Delayed. The Franco-Italian company revealed details about its STLA frame platform, which will support full-size trucks and SUVs. The platform is thought of as a skateboard on which many different types of vehicles can be built, and contains the car's critical electrical and mechanical components.

“Despite all the difficult challenges facing the industry, we remain very focused on the execution of our plan,” CEO Carlos Tavares said in a call with reporters.

Tavares said the automaker is delaying production of its electric RAM pickup from this year to the first half of 2025, citing the need to ensure quality.

“We are facing a tremendous amount of workload,” he said.

Automakers in Detroit and elsewhere have been accelerating the construction of EV-manufacturing capacity over the past two years, only to find demand growing slower than anticipated.

The decision to focus on platforms that support EVs or incorporate the flexibility for hybrid or gasoline-powered vehicles has divided automakers. Ford Motor has leaned toward selling hybrid vehicles, while General Motors has focused on battery-powered models after investing more in building its own EV platforms.

It says GM will begin offering plug-in hybrids in 2027. Stellantis is primarily offering plug-in hybrids in the US for now, but plans to expand its EV footprint in the coming years, pursuing the goal of 100 percent battery electric car sales in Europe and 50 percent electric passenger cars and light-duty vehicles. Planning to increase sales. Truck sales in the US by 2030.

If US President-elect Donald Trump plans to untangle various incentives around EV production and sales, the global industry will face even more uncertainty over EV demand. Trump's transition team plans to eliminate a $7,500 consumer tax credit for electric-vehicle purchases as part of broader tax-reform legislation, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters last week.

Some of Stellantis' plug-in hybrids, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee, qualify for half of that credit. The carmaker is facing falling sales in North America, which has historically made big profits from sales of its popular Jeep and Ram vehicles. Tavares changed his management team in an effort to address his high vehicle inventory and declining stock price, and he plans to retire at the end of his contract in 2026. Stellantis shares are down nearly 40 percent this year.

The company announced in 2021 that it would design frame platforms in addition to large, medium, and small foundations to accommodate different vehicles in its lineup. Stellantis said Tuesday that Ram and Jeep vehicles are the first to use the frame version. The company said the battery electric vehicles on frame will have a range of up to 500 miles (805 km) and will offer 14,000 pounds (6,350 kg) of towing capacity. It will also support hydrogen and extended-range electric vehicles.

  • The first Royal Enfield electric motorcycle will take design inspiration from the Flying Flea which was used in World War II.
The first Royal Enfield electric motorcycle may look like it has taken inspiration from the brand's existing Classic range of motorcycles, but the production model will come with an entirely new design philosophy.

Indian motorcycle manufacturer, Royal Enfield is all set to take on the electric vehicle wagon with its first electric motorcycle. The electric bike will be unveiled tomorrow, November 4, at EICMA 2024.

While the company has had several teasers of the upcoming electric motorcycle, one thing the brand has focused on with the teaser is comparing the upcoming bike to the Flying Flea motorcycle that played a big role in World War 2. Keeping in mind that the brand has also filed a nameplate patent of the same name, they could call the electric motorcycle “Flying Flea”.

Royal Enfield electric motorcycle: what to expect

Earlier in October, the first Royal Enfield electric motorcycle was spotted being driven by Royal Enfield Managing Director Siddharth Lal in Barcelona. Royal Enfield will enter the EV segment with a city motorcycle instead of an electric adventure tourer. In the teaser, the motorcycle can be seen being dropped with a parachute.

The first Royal Enfield electric motorcycle may look like it has taken inspiration from the brand's existing Classic range of motorcycles, but the production model will come with a completely new design philosophy, creating an entirely new perception of the brand. Will do.

From the spy shots, it is quite clear that some of the cycle parts like the LED headlamp, LED turn indicators, adjustable brake lever and switchgear will be taken from other ICE-powered Royal Enfield motorcycles. Other parts worth noting are the circular instrument cluster which will have a TFT screen and may be shared with the Guerrilla 450 and Himalayan 450. However, it will be modified to show information related to EVs. The front has girder forks which were again used on the Flying Flea.

At present, there is no information about the range, specs and battery size of the upcoming electric motorcycle. But considering the size and slim design, it is expected that Royal Enfield will present it as a city motorcycle. There should be fast charging on offer and it looks like the battery pack will not be removable.

Additionally, the upcoming Royal Enfield electric motorcycle is expected to be the most expensive product in the brand's entire portfolio. Royal Enfield has not revealed anything about the pricing strategy of its upcoming electric motorcycle. However, considering the high cost of the battery pack and the premium positioning of the EV, it will be an expensive motorcycle.

Germany voted against additional tariffs, measures which Habestreit said would “naturally draw a reaction from the Chinese side”.

Beijing said on Wednesday it had filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization, with China's commerce ministry vowing to “take all necessary measures to firmly protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.”

Negotiations are ongoing between the EU and China and the tariffs could be lifted if both sides reach a satisfactory agreement.

Chinese automaker BYD set a new record for monthly deliveries and sold more than 400,000 electric vehicles in September. While sales are up 46 percent compared to September 2023, total vehicle sales this year stand at 2.75 million. (Bloomberg)

Chinese automaker BYD Co. set a new record for monthly deliveries by selling more than 400,000 vehicles in September for the first time.

Passenger vehicle sales last month stood at 417,603 units, including 164,956 battery electric cars and 252,647 plug-in hybrid models, BYD said in an exchange filing on Tuesday.

This is 46 percent higher than in September 2023, reflecting BYD's strong growth as it dominates its domestic market and increases exports abroad. Of those September deliveries, more than 33,000 units were sold overseas.

BYD's total vehicle sales so far this year are 2.75 million. With three full months left to run, the automaker is looking a long way from its annual target of 4 million units, given that the Golden Week holidays in China have just begun and the Christmas season begins after that.

Beijing's recent announcement of a series of economic stimulus measures to boost disposable incomes could also contribute to a strong finish for BYD, already China's best-selling car brand.

BYD last month lifted its 2024 annual sales target to 3.6 million, Morgan Stanley auto analysts led by Tim Hsiao wrote in a note, citing comments from BYD management. BYD later denied that it had increased its annual target.

Recommended Watch: Can BYD Seal EV bring luxury at an affordable price?

Sales of electric and hybrid vehicles widely in China are also being boosted by a newly increased government rebate of 20,000 yuan ($2,900) for eligible models.

But the power of those big automakers is hurting the smaller players to some extent.

Great Wall Motor Co.'s September sales were 108,398 units, including 30,129 new energy cars, down 11 percent year-on-year.

Can the MG Windsor fulfill your EV dream? Pros and cons explained

Can the MG Windsor fulfill your EV dream? Pros and cons explained

  • The MG Windsor EV wants to be the only electric car you will ever need. The Windsor EV also wants to be the only electric car that fits your budget.
The exterior appearance and styling of the Windsor EV is quite simple. The flush-type door handles and 18-inch alloy wheels are the only eye-catching elements on the exterior.

The MG Windsor is the latest electric vehicle (EV) in town and is making some pretty big promises to find a place in your garage. It may not be MG's first electric car in India, but it tries to strike a balance between the small but practical Comet EV and the premium but expensive ZS EV. The Windsor EV is unlike any other EV currently in the Indian market and that's because of its crossover profile. With a 'battery-as-a-subscription' program, is this the battery-powered car you've been waiting for?

The Windsor EV is essentially a re-badged version of the Wuling Cloud EV that is sold in several global markets. Not much has changed in the Windsor compared to the Cloud EV apart from the Wuling badge and logo. And that could be a good thing. While the design will take a lot of time to get used to, the features on the inside are this EV's biggest claim to fame.

Also Read: Comprehensive Drive Review of the Windsor EV

How big is the MG Windsor EV?

The Windsor EV is deceptive in its dimensions. Its crossover body style helps it flaunt an aerodynamic profile which is extremely important for an increased range. But the MG model doesn't look big at all when viewed with the naked eye. In fact, while its 2,700 mm wheelbase is longer than the ZS EV and even the Tata Nexon, it doesn't have the road presence that many would want.

Also Read: Which MG Windsor EV Variant to Choose?

With the market for SUVs booming, the Windsor EV may be a step up in terms of its design, featuring LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels and a glass antenna. But opinions on the design are still quite divided.

How is the cabin of the MG Windsor EV?

If opinions will differ about the exterior design and styling, the cabin of the Windsor EV will please everyone. The interiors of the MG EV are premium and very comfortable, with ample cushioning on all seats. While the rear seats recline up to 130 degrees, both the front seats recline back up to almost 180 degrees for a flat-bed experience.

Flat-folding front seats mean you can take a nap while the Windsor EV is parked or charging. Just don’t try this with an EV on the go as it doesn’t have ADAS!

The front seats also have a cooling function and the Windsor EV has a large – and fixed – glass panel on the roof.

But the biggest feature of the Windsor EV is its 15.6-inch main infotainment screen, which has a bright, clear and crisp display quality. Even the feed coming from the 360-degree camera is impressive, providing a clear view of everything around the vehicle. An Infinity sound system is also connected to this screen.

On the other hand, the Windsor EV is definitely not for those who might get overwhelmed by too much technology. Although the car has physical buttons to control the air-conditioning, almost everything related to entertainment or even the car's functions is on the screen. There is a big learning curve to master everything that is in this entertainment unit.

What is the battery size and range of the MG Windsor EV?

The MG Windsor EV has a 38 kWh battery pack and has a claimed range of 330 km. In the real world, expect a range of around 300 km and this is good enough for daily drives within the city and occasional highway trips.

The drive quality itself is about par for the course as despite the Windsor EV's build it isn't as exhilarating as most EVs tend to be. There are four drive modes to choose from and for the most part, driving in the Windsor is more discreet than driving it.

Should you buy the MG Windsor EV?

The Windsor EV is priced at It is priced at Rs 13.50 Lakh and out of the three variants, the top variant is priced at Rs 13.50 Lakh. 15.50 lakh (ex-showroom) At these prices, it might make a lot of sense to invest. But then there is also the BaaS program which means the base Windsor EV can be bought for Rs 15.50 lakh. 10 lakh rupees and then pay Under the battery-subscription plan, a charge of Rs 3.50 per kilometre will be levied.

MG is also offering a buyback program on the Windsor EV after three years, with a lifetime warranty on the battery for the first owner of the Windsor EV unit. Thus, if you have always wanted to drive an electric car but don't have the budget for the ZS EV, the Windsor EV is a great option to own. However, it may still not be ideal, as this is the only car in the house and there are other options for those looking for a more radical body style and a more spirited driving experience.
