Bad news for Fortuner lovers! Leaders' favorite SUV becomes expensive by ₹87,000

Toyota has increased the prices of its premium car Fortuner from ₹ 60,000 to ₹ 87,000 with immediate effect. Under this update, effective from May 6, 2026, the entry-level 2.7-litre turbo petrol 4×2 and some diesel manual variants have become costlier by ₹ 60,000. There has been an increase of ₹ 65,000 on Diesel 4×2 Automatic and Platinum White Pearl variants.

The price of the mid-hybrid Fortuner Neo has increased by ₹75,000, while the top GR-S 4WD variant has seen the highest increase of ₹87,000. There is a hike of around ₹67,000 over the 4×4 manual diesel. This increase has been applied to the entire lineup, making the Fortuner now more expensive. However, it still remains a favorite for its power, features and rugged image. Let's take a look at the design and performance details of this popular SUV.

Design and interior

The design of Toyota Fortuner is commanding and muscular. This body-on-frame SUV is 4,795 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,835 mm high, with 2,745 mm wheelbase and 225 mm ground clearance. Sharp LED headlights and taillights, chrome highlights, 17-18 inch alloy wheels and bold stance give it an aggressive look on the road. The GR-S and Legender variants get sportier elements like a special grille, spoiler and black accents.

The cabin is practical and spacious, with a 7-seater layout. Black and chamois color options, faux wood trim, leather seats and good build quality are available. There are ventilated seats, dual-zone auto AC and good space in the front. Although it may seem a little less premium compared to some competitors, it is comfortable for long journeys. Boot space with all seats in place is 296 litres.

Features and safety

The Fortuner comes with features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system (Android Auto + Apple CarPlay), 11-speaker JBL audio, analog instrument cluster with 4.2-inch MID, cruise control, 360-degree camera and ventilated front seats. Higher variants offer ambient lighting and additional comfort options.

Safety features include 7 airbags (including driver knee airbag), ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill assist, downhill assist (in 4×4), 360-degree camera and parking sensors. It is strong for off-roading.

Engine and Mileage

Fortuner comes with two main engine options. This includes 2.7-litre turbo petrol (approximately 164-166 hp, 245 Nm) and 2.8-litre turbo diesel (201-204 hp, 420-500 Nm). A 48V mild-hybrid option is also available in diesel. Transmissions have 6-speed manual or automatic. 4×2 and 4×4 options are also available. Talking about mileage, it is claimed to be around 10.3 kmpl in petrol auto and 14.4 kmpl in diesel manual along with 14.6 kmpl in mild-hybrid diesel.
