New Delhi. In view of the increasing popularity of CNG vehicles in India, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has emphasized on expanding its CNG options. The company says that the sales of CNG vehicles are continuously increasing in both urban and rural markets.

Hyundai currently offers CNG variants in three models – Grand i10 NIOS, Aura, and Exter. The share of CNG models in the company's domestic sales reached 11.4% in FY 2024, which was 9.1% in FY 2022. This figure increased to 12.8% between April and October 2024, while total domestic sales during this period stood at 3.54 lakh units.

Benefit from expansion of CNG station network
Hyundai Motors India Limited Chief Operating Officer (COO) Tarun Garg said that the number of CNG stations in the country has crossed 7,000 and the target is to take it to 17,500 by 2030. He said, “This extensive network will further accelerate the demand for CNG vehicles, providing customers with a more affordable and environment-friendly alternative to the fuel.”

Hyundai introduced CNG Duo technology
Keeping in mind the needs of the customers, Hyundai has launched the Hy-CNG Duo system. It comes with dual cylinder technology, which not only provides better fuel efficiency but also solves the problem of lack of boot space. It has been included in Grand i10 NIOS and EXTER.

Tarun Garg said, “The aim of CNG Duo is to provide more mileage, boot space and safety to the customers. With its help, we have recorded the highest ever penetration of 14.9% in CNG models in October 2024.”

Hyundai's CNG Duo system comes with an advanced integrated ECU, allowing easy switching between petrol and CNG. Three years warranty with company-fitted CNG system further enhances customer confidence.

October sales figures
Hyundai sold 8,261 CNG vehicles in October 2024. During this period, the share of CNG in Grand i10 NIOS was 17.4%, in Exter 39.7% and in Aura 90.6%. The popularity of CNG vehicles has increased rapidly in both rural and urban areas. The share of CNG in the urban market increased from 8.8% in FY 2022 to 10.7% in FY 2024, while in rural areas it increased from 7.1% to 12%.
