Images of the next generation model of Hyundai's popular premium hatchback i20 have been leaked online ahead of its launch. These leaked images show the new i20 being prepared for the global market, which includes crossover styling, strong road presence and an all-new interior. The company is going to unveil it officially soon, while the launch is expected to happen at the end of this year.
The new generation will replace the existing i20 and will follow Hyundai's latest design philosophy. The production-spec model is clearly visible in the leaked pictures, which looks more upright, rugged and full of technology than before. With this update, the i20 will enter the hatchback segment with SUV-like appeal, which can attract young customers. The company has made major changes in both the exterior and interior, which have improved the overall presence and user experience of the car.
exterior design
The biggest attraction of the new i20 is its crossover-inspired look. The car has been given squared proportions, black body cladding and high riding stance. At the front, the slim headlamps are integrated with the wide black fascia, giving a clean and minimalist appearance.
The side profile shows sharp body creases, blacked-out pillars and newly designed alloy wheels. The rear section features connected LED tail lamps spread across the rear. These changes give a completely different silhouette from the old i20 and will significantly improve its road presence. In the leaked pictures, it seems that Hyundai has focused on giving this model a more SUV-like appeal.
New interior and panoramic display
The biggest transformation has been seen in the interior. The new dashboard layout is centered around a large panoramic display, with the digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen housed in a single housing. This layout is similar to the recently launched new Venue.
The physical buttons for main functions have been retained, while the center console now looks cleaner and modern. The steering wheel is also new, which seems inspired by Hyundai's latest global models. The door pads get dual-tone treatment, circular speaker elements and redesigned grab handles. The overall dashboard architecture has been changed to give a premium feel, making the cabin experience better than ever.
Better practicality and space
The baggage compartment is also shown in the leaked images. The boot space looks spacious and practical. The rear seats are split-folding, which increases cargo flexibility. The taller roofline and boxier proportions are expected to improve headroom and cabin space, making it more comfortable for long trips.
Engine and powertrain options
Technical specifications have not been released officially yet. International versions may be offered with updated turbocharged petrol engines with mild-hybrid technology to meet stricter emission norms. At the same time, 1.2 liter naturally aspirated and 1.0 liter turbo petrol engine options are likely to remain in the Indian market.
