Nissan Motor India is going to make the global debut of its new midsize SUV Nissan Tekton in the Indian market tomorrow (9 July 2026). This is a big sign of the brand's strong comeback in India, especially with the return of the midsize SUV segment after the discontinuation of the Kicks. The Tecton is based on the new generation Renault Duster, but will come with Nissan's own design language, especially styling inspired by the flagship Patrol SUV. This 5-seater SUV built on the CMF-B platform can be launched in India by June 2026 and will give direct competition to vehicles like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Tata Sierra and Skoda Kushaq.
Its price is expected to be between Rs 11 lakh to Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be produced in the Chennai plant, which will supply for the domestic market as well as for export. Nissan is also calling it Baby Patrol, which reflects its bold and rugged look. This launch is part of the brand's One Car, One World strategy and will mark the beginning of Nissan's product offensive in India. Let's take a look at the details from its design to engine and mileage.
Design and interior
The exterior of Tecton is inspired by Patrol SUV. The front will see a large V-shaped grille with chrome slats, C-shaped LED headlamps, connected LED DRLs and a muscular hood. The side profile will feature flared wheel arches, roof rails, dual-tone alloy wheels and rear door handles integrated into the C-pillar, giving a two-door look. The rear will have connected LED taillights, spoiler and strong bumper. The dimensions will be very close to the Duster. Its length will be 4345 mm, wheelbase will be 2657 mm and good ground clearance.
The cabin will be modern and premium. Gloss black paneling, brass/copper accents and three-tone color scheme (blue, black, copper) can be found on the dashboard. Features like 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless charger, dual-zone AC, 360-degree camera and premium sound system are expected. The rear space and boot capacity (500 litres) will be convenient for family use.
Features and safety
Its top variants will get wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, powered tailgate, ambient lighting, multi-drive modes and keyless entry. This feature-loaded SUV will give good competition in the segment.
Talking about safety, it is expected to get 5-star Bharat NCAP rating like Duster. It is expected to get 6 airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, ESC, TPMS, 360-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS (Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking etc.).
Engine and Mileage
It will initially be offered in two turbo-petrol engine options. Later, a 1.8 liter strong hybrid variant may also come. Mileage is likely to be 15-18 kmpl in petrol and 20+ kmpl in hybrid. AWD option can be found in some variants. Currently it can be purchased with these engine options-
- 1.0 liter turbo-petrol (100 PS, 160 Nm) – 6-speed manual.
- 1.3 liter turbo-petrol (163 PS, 280 Nm) – 6-speed MT or DCT.
