Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has registered sales of 28,441 units in the domestic market in June 2026, which shows an annual growth of 7.52% as compared to 26,453 units in June 2025 last year. The company has sold 1,988 more units during this period. However, there was a monthly decline of 6.98% in June as compared to 30,574 units in May 2026. The urban cruiser Highrider again maintained its dominance in Toyota's portfolio and this model alone contributed 32.01% of the company's total sales.

This month both SUV and MPV segments have given mixed performance. On one hand, Hyrider and Glanza showed strong growth. At the same time, there was a decline in the sales of popular vehicles like Innova Hycross, Crysta and Fortuner. In such a situation, it can be estimated that the demand for hybrid and compact models is increasing in the Indian market. Let's take a look at the company's model-wise sales report.

Toyota Hyrider

Toyota's best-selling car, the Urban Cruiser Highrider, has sold 9,104 units in June 2026, which is an increase of 22% compared to 7,462 units last year. This model accounts for 32% of the company's total monthly sales. It also increased by 5% compared to May. Due to hybrid powertrain, modern features and SUV styling, Hyrider remains very popular among the customers.

Toyota Innova Hycross

Innova Hycross, which was in second position, sold a total of 4,510 units, but there was a decline of 21.51% in sales on an annual basis. In June last year, its sales were 5,746 units. Even on monthly basis, a huge decline of 32.91% was recorded. The company is working on a facelift version of the HiCross, which may boost sales in the future.

Toyota Glanza

Toyota Glanza stood third with sales of 3,512 units, showing a year-on-year growth of 19.54%. There was also an improvement of 9.82% compared to May. Glanza is quite popular among young buyers in the hatchback segment due to its reliability and fuel efficiency.

Toyota Innova Crysta

2,822 units of Innova Crysta have been sold, but there was an annual decline of 7.66% in sales. It is still strong in the MPV segment, but is feeling some pressure due to increasing competition. There was also a decline of 21.68% on monthly basis.

Toyota Fortuner

Fortuner sold 2,514 units, showing a decline of 8.35% year-on-year and 13.46% month-on-month. Despite strong competition in the premium SUV segment, it remains Toyota's favorite off-roader vehicle.

Apart from the top-5 cars of the company mentioned above, last month 2483 units of Taisor, 2376 units of Rumion, 459 units of Ebella, 289 units of Hilux, 191 units of Camry, 140 units of Vellfire and only 41 units of LC300 were sold.

Toyota is preparing to update its popular car Innova Hycross. Recently the facelift model has been spotted testing in heavy camouflage, which may be launched early next year. The spy shots show that the company is bringing stylish tweaks to the exterior and modern changes to the cabin. While maintaining the success of the existing model, Toyota is focusing on making it more competitive.

Updates like larger touchscreen, revised dashboard and refreshed lighting units can be seen in the new version. While retaining the hybrid powertrain, some eco-friendly updates are also possible. This facelift can prove to be a breath of new life for Innova Hycross in the premium MPV segment. Let's take a look at the potential design to engine-performance details.

Design and interior

Small but noticeable changes will be seen in the exterior of Innova Hycross facelift. The pictures revealed new slimmer headlights, squarer grille and redesigned front-rear bumpers. The interior design of the taillights may be updated. Features like new alloy wheels, integrated spoiler, shark-fin antenna and rear wiper may also be included. The overall silhouette will remain the same, but the look will be more modern and premium.

The biggest change can happen in the cabin. The existing dual tone brown-black dashboard may be replaced by a full black theme. The Innova and Innova Crysta together have ruled this segment for the last two decades, but now it looks like this MPV is moving towards the end of its life cycle. According to the report of Autocar, Toyota is preparing to discontinue Innova Crysta MPV from the market by March 2027.

Why will Innova Crysta be discontinued?
Why? The Innova Crysta continues to be popular among buyers who want a sensible, no-fuss premium MPV that is reliable. However, the Crysta is being discontinued due to the upcoming strict CAFE 3 regulations. Toyota has already made a strategy for these new rules and has chosen petrol hybrids as its path. More hybrid products will be seen in Toyota's lineup at the upcoming MENAX. Innova Highcross is an example of this.

The hybrid portfolio will give Toyota super credits, which are beneficial for any carmaker, especially when it aims to meet CAFE 3 regulations. Each pure hybrid vehicle counts as two vehicles in the CAFE calculation, making it easier for the company to meet its fleet's CO₂ targets. Currently, each Innova HighCross Hybrid sold by Toyota is reducing the company's corporate average fuel consumption by twice as much as diesel SUVs and MPVs.

What will happen to Fortuner?
If compared with other models, diesel MPVs like Innova Crysta contribute to increasing fuel consumption, and this is the reason why Toyota has decided to discontinue the Crysta. What next? As mentioned above, Toyota will now focus more on petrol hybrids under CAFE regulations. It is not yet clear whether Toyota will completely discontinue diesel engines from all its models, such as the Fortuner. Although Innova HighCross is present in the market, it seems that it will not be able to completely fill the void left by the departure of Innova Crysta. You might remember that Toyota had removed Innova Crysta from the market in 2025.

This decision was taken at the time of launch of Innova Highcross. But when the HiCross was launched, Toyota faced many problems like semiconductor shortage. When the company saw that the waiting period for Innova High Cross was long and the demand for Innova Crysta or diesel MPV still remained, Toyota decided to launch Crysta again in the market.

However, compared to the older version, the relaunched Crysta came only with a diesel engine and a manual gearbox. It was provided with a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine, which was in accordance with the current emission norms. Automatic transmission was deliberately not given, because the company knew that it would affect the sales of Innova Highcross. Overall, Toyota does not have any true alternative to Innova Crysta and now it has to be seen whether companies like Mahindra, Tata or Hyundai bring a new MPV in this segment or not, so that the needs of the customers can be met.

The carmaker has revealed the tentative waiting periods for all its models. Some of the cars, including the likes of newly-launched Rumion and Innova HyCross MPVs, have their waiting period stretching more than 12 months on certain variants. Here is a quick look at the Toyota cars for which your wait could get stretched to about a year or more.

Toyota Rumion and Innova HyCross are two models among its cars which currently comes with a waiting period of more than a year depending on variants.

Toyota Rumion CNG

The CNG version of Toyota’s latest MPV has more demand than its standard version. The Maruti Ertiga-rival, launched in August this year at a starting price of ₹10.29 lakh (ex-showroom), is sold in petrol and CNG variants. The waiting period on the Rumion CNG could go up to 18 months, or one and a half years, depending on where the buyer has booked it. Due to high demand, Toyota had to temporarily halt bookings for the Rumion E-CNG variant in September. Rumion draws power from the 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine paired with manual and automatic transmission options.

The CNG version of Toyota’s compact SUV Urban Cruiser HyRyder has the second longest waiting period among models the Japanese carmaker offers in India. According to the carmaker, one may have to wait up to 16 months to drive home the E-CNG HyRyder SUV. In January this year, Toyota introduced the CNG avatar of the HyRyder SUV at a staring price of ₹13.23 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV, rival to Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta among others, is powered by a 1.5-litre K-Series engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The CNG variant claims to offer 26.6 km/kg fuel efficiency.

Toyota Innova HyCross hybrid

The strong hybrid version of the Innova HyCross has its waiting period stretching up to 15 months. The MPV, Toyota’s best-selling model in India, is offered in both petrol as well as strong hybrid versions. Toyota had launched the Innova HyCross in India in December last year with the strong hybrid variants priced from ₹24.01 lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Invicto, which is essentially based on the HyCross model. The self-charging hybrid powertrain is mated to a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 181 bhp and promises fuel economy of 23.24 kmpl.

Toyota Vellfire

Vellfire, the most expensive model from the Japanese auto giant in India, also has a long waiting period. According to Toyota, one may have to wait for around 15 months to get a new Vellfire delivered, depending on the location of purchase.

Toyota Motor plans to increase its production capacity in India amid rising demands and long waiting period for its vehicles. The Japanese auto giant has started to enhance manufacturing capacity with two plants located at Bidadi, Karnataka, running at full capacity. Toyota made the announcement during the ongoing Japan Auto Show in Tokyo, saying that demands for its cars, especially in the high-end category, has seen a jump post Covid pandemic in India.

Yoichi Miyazaki, Executive Vice President and Board Member at Toyota Motor Corporation, said the company is reaching full plant capacity utilisation in India. Toyota, which operates jointly with Bengaluru-based Kirloskar Group in India, uses two of its facilities in Karnataka. The two plants have an overall production capacity of 3.42 lakh units per year.

Miyazaki said, “We have started a discussion (on the matter). After Covid, the market recovery is very strong (in India) in comparison to other countries so we believe demand itself is very strong in India.” Toyota is also planning a third facility in India to address rising demands and long waiting periods on its models. Miyazaki said demands for bigger cars in India is seen as a good sign by the Japanese auto giant. “With the strength of higher segments going up in the Indian market, it tells us it is now Toyota’s time,” he said.

Toyota sells Fortuner and Fortuner Legender SUVs, Innova Crysta, Innova HyCross and Rumion MPVs, Urban Cruiser HyRyder SUV, Camry Hybrid sedan, Hilux pickup truck and Glanza hatchback in India. All eight models are manufactured at its facility in Karnataka. Part of the facility is also utilised to manufacture vehicles jointly developed with its India partner Maruti Suzuki, like Grand Vitara SUV.

Toyota had recently started a third shift at its Bidadi facility to increase output capacity by nearly 30 per cent. It also invested more than ₹90 crore to upgrade infrastructure and employed 1,500 additional workers to help bring down waiting period for its cars. Toyota has seen its sales jump by 35 per cent between April and September this year with nearly 1.24 lakh vehicles sold.

Toyota Motor has introduced the world’s first car that can run fully on alternative fuel – ethanol and is equipped with a flex-fuel engine. The model is based on the Innova HyCross MPV and was officially launched at an event presided over by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

The electrified Innova HyCross flex-fuel is prototype in nature and is compatible with the latest emission norms of Bharat Stage 6 II. The electrified flex-fuel Innova HyCross will also be able to generate electric power on its own and able to run on EV mode as well as it gets a lithium-ion battery pack.

Toyota Innova HyCross flex-fuel MPV will run entirely on ethanol, a fuel derived from plants. The ethanol is graded E100, signifying that the car run fully on the alternative fuel. However, it is not yet known if and when the production version of the electrified flex-fuel model will hit the Indian roads.

For the flex-fuel version of the Innova HyCross, the company had to tune the engine so that it could run on E100 grade ethanol. The fuel tank and fuel pipe have also been modified. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine unit, also used in the standard Innova HyCross, is compatible with E85 fuel. The spark plugs and piston rings of the MPV have been changed too.

Toyota has also added a cold-start system to the vehicle which allows it to power up in cold conditions as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius. The standard Innova HyCross hybrid MPV can generate 181 bhp of power and offer fuel economy of 23.24 kmpl. Toyota says the flex-fuel model can offer 30 to 50 per cent more efficiency.

India’s push for biofuel or alternative cleaner fuel gained momentum last year when the Centre rolled out petrol mixed with ethanol. India aims to achieve 20 per cent ethanol mixed in petrol by 2025.

Gadkari has been advocating use of alternative fuel every now and then to reduce costly import of crude oil, which is processed to produce conventional fuels like petrol and diesel. The introduction of alternative fuel also aims to reduce pollution as well as India’s carbon footprint.
