1. Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Maruti Suzuki Dezire remained India's best selling car even in May 2026. It strengthened its hold with sales of 24,546 units. Low price, excellent mileage, comfortable interior and easy maintenance are its main attractions. Both family users and fleet operators are crazy about it. The features provided in the new generation like touchscreen, connectivity and safety options have increased its popularity.

Maruti Suzuki Dezire prices start from ₹6.26 lakh and go up to ₹9.31 lakh (ex-showroom). Its new design is modern with attractive sedan look with premium grille and LED lights. Features like 9-inch touchscreen, wireless connectivity, sunroof, 360° camera and auto AC have been provided in the interior. For safety, 6 airbags are standard and it has got a 5-star GNCAP rating.

4. Tata Punch

Tata Punch maintained its dominance in the micro segment. Strong build quality, 5-star safety rating and attractive design made it a favorite of the youth. Good performance both in the city and on the highway is the key to its success. A total of 20,208 units were sold last month.

5. Tata Nexon

On the basis of explosive growth in sales, Nexon has registered its name in the list of top-5 cars of last month. A total of 19,100 units were sold last month. This figure shows an annual increase of 46 percent in its sales.

Apart from the top-5 cars of last month mentioned above, in May 2026, there will be 18,396 units of Baleno, 18,076 units of WagonR, 17,519 units of Swift, 15,774 units of Scorpio, 15,253 units of Creta, 13,245 units of Brezza, 13,240 units of Eeco, 11,714 units of Venue, Victoris 10,853 units and 10,787 units of Thar have been sold.

2. Tata Motors

Tata Motors maintained its strong hold in the market this month also. Despite the tough challenge from Mahindra, Tata took the second position by selling 59,090 vehicles in May 2026. Although, its monthly growth was only 0.2% compared to April (59,000 units), but compared to May 2025 last year, the company has registered an excellent annual growth of 42.2%.

3. Mahindra

SUV King Mahindra has come very close to second place this time. The company has sold 58,021 vehicles in May 2026, which is only a few hundred units less than Tata Motors. Mahindra has achieved a strong monthly growth (MoM) of 3% and its sales have increased by 10.7% compared to last year, which reflects the strong demand for its new models.

4. Hyundai

The month of May 2026 was a bit slow for Hyundai. The company has sold 47,837 vehicles this month, which is in fourth place. Its monthly sales have seen a decline of 7.8% as compared to 51,902 vehicles sold in April 2026. However, compared to last year, Hyundai has managed to register a positive annual growth of 9.1% till May 2025.

5. Toyota

Toyota, famous for its reliable and premium vehicles, remains at fifth position in the list. The company has sold 30,574 vehicles in May 2026, whereas in April this figure was 30,159 units. Toyota has recorded a stable monthly growth of 1.4% and an annual growth of 4.4% since May last year, which shows the confidence of customers in its continued presence in the market.

Apart from the top-5 car companies of May 2026, last month 27,586 units of Kia India, 6,048 units of MG Motor, 5,111 units of Honda and 2,948 units of Nissan were sold.
