Honda's first electric SUV spotted during testing in India, know details

Honda Cars India is rapidly testing its first electric car Honda 0 Alpha on Indian roads. The prototype recently spotted in Manali has given the clearest view of the cabin, where a large landscape-oriented touchscreen and a fully digital instrument cluster are visible. This car, to be launched in 2027, is based on Honda's new 'Thin, Light, and Wise' design philosophy, which focuses on space, efficiency and smart features.

Along with local manufacturing in India, this SUV will be made for domestic market as well as export. It will compete with vehicles like Creta EV, eVitara in the premium mid-size EV segment. Honda is considering India as an important part of its global EV strategy and is planning to launch 10 new cars by 2030. Let's take a look at the possible details from its design to battery and range.

Design and interior

0 Inspired by the Alpha concept, this SUV has a boxy and upright stance. At the front, there are rectangular LED lights, illuminated Honda logo and slim black panel. Vertically stacked taillights and clean tailgate design are available at the rear. The tall roofline, good glass area and aerodynamic shape balance both space and range. The 19-inch alloy wheels will be attractive in the production model.

The cabin is minimalist and technology-focused. There is a large free-standing touchscreen on the center dashboard, which seems much larger than current Honda models. There is a fully digital instrument cluster, a new helix style steering wheel (with multi-function controls), paddle shifters (for regenerative braking) and physical climate control buttons. Auto-dimming IRVM and premium materials give a luxury feel.

Features and safety

It is expected to get wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, connected car technology, navigation and EV-specific functions (like battery monitoring, charging station locator). Honda's new user interface will attract users.

Safety details are not official yet, but multiple airbags, ESC, hill hold, TPMS and ADAS features (features like automatic emergency braking, lane keep) are expected. The EV platform will provide a strong safety structure.

Battery, Motor and Range

This will be a front-wheel drive single motor EV. The battery is likely to be 50-75 kWh (most likely 60-70 kWh), which could give a real-world range of 400-500+ KM. 10-80% DC fast charging is possible in 15-30 minutes. PMSM motor will give good performance and efficiency.

Honda 0 Alpha will make a strong entry in the Indian EV market. Testing will continue before the 2027 launch. The price is expected to be around ₹20-30 lakh (ex-showroom), which will make it attractive. This model reflects Honda's EV commitment.
