Second generation iteration of Porsche Taycan EV would receive a major upgrade on range and performance front.

Porsche updated the Taycan with a facelift just a couple of months back and the German luxury performance car manufacturer has already started working on the next-generation version of the electric sportscar. Australian automotive publication CarSales has reported that the second-generation Taycan EV will come with significant upgrades. Interestingly, despite giving the current electric sportscar substantial tweaks for its mid-life update, the automaker is planning more upgrades for the next-generation Taycan EV.

The report has quoted Taycan Manager of Charging and Energy Systems, Sarah Razavi saying that the new Taycan EV is already being developed. She reportedly admitted that the J1 platform underpinning the Audi E-Tron GT has been pushed to the maximum and hence, Porsche will not use this architecture for the new Taycan. The report stated that the new Taycan would use the already announced SSP Sport platform that will also serve as the underpinning for a large three-row electric SUV.

Speaking on the project, she said that once the OEM launches one model, it starts working on the next one. “I think we did a great job to really push and squeeze every bit out of the current platform. We’re probably going to see an evolution of the platform,” she further added. Razavi also admitted that the J1 architecture definitely has some limitations and that the goal for a follow-up to today’s Taycan EV will be to achieve greater range.

The facelifted Taycan EV introduced in February 2024 promises up to 677 km range on a single charge, which is a major leap of 175 km or 35 per cent surge in range. However, the automaker is not planning to add a solid-state battery pack to the next-gen Taycan EV, as the technology may not be ready in time. “We’ve been working on it, of course, but giving a timeframe when it’s ready? It’s way too early, too early to confirm. It’s not ready in one or two years. It’s coming but it will take time,” she added.

BMW M won’t downsize its engines, to continue with V8 and inline-six engines

BMW M won’t downsize its engines, to continue with V8 and inline-six engines

BMW’s high-performance car division, popularly known as BMW M has no intention to follow its arch-rival Mercedes-AMG’s strategy of offering downsized engines for its sporty cars. Also, the German automaker plans to continue selling its V8 and inline-six engines, claims a report by CarExpert. This revelation comes despite the build-up of pressure due to stringent emission norms.

BMW M is working on pure electric high-performance cars but that won’t come anytime soon.

In an interaction, BMW M’s boss Frank van Meel said that the automaker’s high-performance division has no plan to introduce three and four-cylinder engine-powered cars alongside the future electric vehicles. He said that putting a smaller engine under the hood of a full-blown M model in combination with big batteries simply would not be the right way for the auto company.

Meel reportedly said that BMW M wants to have a strong base engine and going to smaller engines in combination with bigger batteries wouldn’t be the right way for the automaker. “That’s not the way we see it because we want to have a strong base engine anyway. So, for us, going to smaller combustion engines in combination with bigger batteries would not be the right way. For us, then the step will be to go purely electric right away. And do that in a proper way,” van Meel reportedly said.

BMW M is working on pure electric cars as the demand for EVs is rising. However, such cars are not coming anytime soon, claimed van Meel. He believes that the electric propulsion technology is not ready yet for a track-focused machine, which can provide continuous power output in a significant way. “It has to do one or two laps of the Nurburgring Nordschleife at full speed, actually, then with the battery, if you go, let’s say over 250 kilometres per hour, you won’t get any much further anyway. So that’s currently the restriction,” the CEO added.

HiPhi A is an all-electric high-performance sedan designed and developed by a Chinese EV manufacturer called HiPhi. The electric super sedan is slated to make its debut at the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show. The EV comes with a design that has been inspired by the automaker’s previous electric car HiPhi Z, which was unveiled in March this year.

The HiPhi A looks like to have taken a bit of design inspiration from the Nissan GT-R, as its front profile comes with some significant resemblances. However, the overall design is distinctive and looks outlandish. The EV looks more like an elongated hatchback rather than a fully grown sedan.

The EV sports a bifurcated roof spoiler with a sleek LED light bar integrated to it. There is another wider LED light-bar that acts as the taillight of the EV, while the car sports a massive rear diffuser enhancing its bold visual appeal. The EV manufacturer has clearly emphasised on the aerodynamic efficiency of the HiPhi A while designing the car.

Inside the cabin, the car doesn’t boast an extraordinary look. However, being a high-end performance EV, the HiPhi A gets a premium vibe. There is a large landscape-oriented touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster and a dual-spoke multifunction steering wheel. It looks like HiPhi has emphasised on digital interfaces inside the cabin of the car.

The HiPhi A gets carbon fibre incorporated to various places inside the cabin that not only reduce the weight of the EV, but enhances rigidity as well. The car gets a centre console that reminds us of Lamborghini supercars. Clearly, the manufacturer has kept an eye on the details of the HiPhi A.

HiPhi has revealed that the car comes with three different electric motors, with one mounted to the front axle and other two fitted to the rear axle and chanelling power to the rear wheels. Its battery pack size is unknown yet but expect a large pack to be there. HiPHi A promises 1,270 bhp of peak power and can run at a top speed of 300 kmph, with the capability to sprint to 96 kmph from standstill position in just two seconds.

Ferrari to take payment in cryptocurrency for luxurious sports cars

Automakers mulling the idea of accepting cryptocurrency as payment for selling their cars is nothing new. However, Italian sportscar brand Ferrari has become one of the major automobile brands to accept cryptocurrency as a payment method in the US, Reuters has reported. The automaker has also reportedly said that it will extend the scheme to European markets as well.

Ferrari has become the latest automaker to accept payment in cryptocurrency.

Ferrari has reportedly claimed that it has taken the decision to accept payment through cryptocurrency after receiving requests from specific markets and dealers as many of its clients have invested in crypto. Also, the automaker has reportedly stated that it has been receiving requests from wealthy customers in the European market to open the provision of payment through cryptocurrency.

Speaking about this decision, Ferrari’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer Enrico Galliera said that cryptocurrencies had made efforts to reduce their carbon footprint through the introduction of new software and a larger use of renewable sources. “Some are young investors who have built their fortunes around cryptocurrencies,” he said revealing the reason behind accepting crypto as a means of payment, while adding, “Some others are more traditional investors, who want to diversify their portfolios.”

Cars being large ticket products cryptocurrency’s entrance in the vehicle retail segment could be the beginning of an interesting trend. However, to date, the automakers along with other blue-chip companies have steered clear of cryptocurrency as the volatility of such digital currencies renders them impractical for commercial transactions. Also, government regulations and high energy consumption too have also prevented the spread of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.

Previously, Tesla started accepting payments in cryptocurrency in 2021 for selling its electric cars. However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk halted the move later because of environmental concerns and in the face of criticism.

Entop Simurgh is a swanky supercar that has grabbed everyone’s attention at the Geneva Motor Show in Qatar. While the car’s design is certainly look-worthy, the key USP for the Simurgh is the origin country of this sports car. It is the first-ever indigenous supercar from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, which made this car one of the most extraordinary exhibits at the prestigious automotive event.

Entop Simurgh first broke cover in January 2023 as Mada 9 and claims to have been designed, developed and built entirely in Afghanistan. The stylish supercar, which is currently in prototype phase and awaits a production-ready avatar, claims to have been developed and built by the Kabul-based manufacturer Entop in collaboration with Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute (ATVI).

The Entop Simurgh sports a glossy all-black paint theme. The car carries sleek LED headlamps, slim LED taillights, a sharp front splitter, large black alloy wheels, and flared fenders. The sculpted side profile gets wide air intakes and a bold rear diffuser, while the swooping roofline is there to help it achieve better aerodynamic efficiency.

Powering the Entop Simurgh supercar is a rear-mounted four-cylinder engine sourced from a 2000 Toyota Corolla. The mid-engine supercar comes with the powerplant cradled between tube chassis and surrounded by lightweight composite materials. While Entop claimed that the engine has been modified specifically for Simurgh, it has not revealed the technical specifications.

While the Entop Simurgh has grabbed many eyeballs at the Geneva Motor Show in Qatar, this is not the first time the sportscar made its appearance for the public eyes. Previously, the Afghan manufacturer revealed this supercar through its social media platforms. However, the car was christened as Mada 9 at that time and now the company has rebadged it as Simurgh.
