Tata Sierra is better diesel or petrol? Know

If you are thinking of buying Tata Sierra, then the decision of diesel or petrol will depend on your annual running, driving style and budget. This mid-size SUV competes with vehicles like Creta and Seltos in the Indian market. Bold retro-modern design, loaded features, 5-star safety and three engine options (1.5 liter NA petrol, 1.5 liter turbo petrol and 1.5 liter diesel) make it special.

The petrol version is smooth, low noise and easy to maintain, while the diesel gives better mileage and torque. Petrol may be convenient for those who drive less in the city, diesel may be a wise decision for those who drive more on long distances and on the highway. Features and safety are almost similar in both. Let us know which of the two would be better to choose?

Which is better between diesel and petrol?

If we analyze the mileage, according to ARAI the diesel manual is capable of giving a mileage of up to 19-21 kmpl, while the petrol is capable of giving a mileage of up to 15-17 kmpl. In real world, diesel gives 14-17 kmpl in city and 18-21 kmpl on highway. Petrol is capable of giving efficiency of 11-14 kmpl in city and 15-17 kmpl in highway.

On running 12 thousand to 15 thousand KM annually, the per km cost of diesel is less (₹ 5-6/km vs ₹ 7-9/km) and savings can be up to Rs 1-1.5 lakh. Petrol is better on short running because its maintenance is cheaper and the vehicle can run for 15 years, whereas the limit of diesel engine car is only 10 years.

Diesel for what?

  • For heavy highway/long driving
  • Running 12,000+ KM annually
  • Need for better torque and load
  • For those looking for low running costs

Petrol for what?

  • Running low in most cities
  • For smooth, quiet and responsive driving
  • Low maintenance and easy servicing
  • Turbo petrol for performance lovers

Design and interior

The retro-modern look of Tata Sierra is a head-turner with the bold grille, strong wheel arches and LED lights. Its design gives more road presence and premium feel than Creta. The interior has a triple screen setup, premium materials, panoramic sunroof, JBL sound system and good spacing. Its cabin is quiet and family-friendly with comfortable seats.

Features and safety

It can be purchased with Level-2 ADAS, 360° camera, ventilated seats, wireless charging, powered tailgate. With a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, the Sierra gets 6-7 airbags, ESP, strong body and ADAS. From design to features, both the engine options are almost similar. The bottom line is that choose diesel for high running, petrol can be a better option for low running and city use.

For whom is Tata Sierra the perfect choice? Know before you buy

Tata Sierra has been made back in the Indian market with a classic look and modern technology. This 4.3 meter long compact SUV is built on the ARGOS platform, which is ready for multi-powertrain and future AWD. Its ex-showroom price starts from ₹ 11.49 lakh and goes up to ₹ 21.29 lakh. In the market, it competes with vehicles like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Skoda Kushaq.

If you are planning to buy an SUV in the coming days and want Tata Sierra to become your next car, then this article of ours is only for you. In this article we will talk about the fact that this desi SUV can be a perfect option for the people in the present times. Let us know about the shortcomings and advantages of Tata Sierra.

Who is the perfect fit?

Tata Sierra is perfect for families who want a comfortable, spacious and premium SUV. If you are a family of 4-5 people, commute daily in the city and want to go on occasional highway or light off-road trips, the Sierra will suit your needs. Three adults can sit comfortably on the rear seat. Best in segment legroom, shoulder space and thigh support. The large boot of 622 liters is perfect for family long tours.

This is a great option for those who give priority to safety. With a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, it is equipped with 6 standard airbags, ESP and Level-2 ADAS features in the top variants. The premium interiors, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone AC and triple screen setup will attract professionals and upper-middle class families who want luxury with value for money.

Engine and Driving

There are three engine options available in it. Customers can buy Tata Sierra with 1.5L NA petrol (economical), 1.5L turbo petrol (powerful and refined) and 1.5L turbo diesel (torquey, best for highways) engines. Automatic transmission comes with all. The balance of ride quality and handling is considered to be the best in the segment. This is perfect for a comfortable yet sporty feel. Easy maneuvering in the city and stability on the highway are both good. Before buying, be aware of some shortcomings-

  • Some reviews complain about diesel engine noise and body roll.
  • The base variant has less features, so choose Pure or Adventure variant.
  • Initial batches may have fit-finish or some minor niggles.
  • The price is a bit aggressive, but competitive considering the features and space.

Who should avoid?

If you just want a budget SUV (₹10-12 lakh) with limited features, or are looking for sporty performance and AWD, then you would be better off looking at Creta/Seltos or other options. It is also not the best for a pure off-roader. Apart from this, it is also not going to be a good option for a big family.

Final Verdict: Tata Sierra is the perfect choice for those who want style, space, safety and a premium experience all in one, without spending too much. Family use, safety-conscious buyers and those who like the iconic look should definitely consider it. Take a test drive, choose the variant and engine as per your requirement. Overall, this is a solid package from Tata.

Its price starts from ₹ 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹ 21.29 lakh. If you are planning to buy this indigenous and modern SUV, then this article of ours is useful for you.

In this article we will know how much Tata Sierra can run on one liter of petrol or diesel. The most important question before buying a car is mileage! According to the ARAI certified claimed figures, the Sierra seems to be a good performer across all engine and transmission options. However, in real world, it may reduce by 2-4 kmpl due to traffic, driving style and load. Let's take a look at the claimed fuel efficiency.

How much will Sierra run on one liter petrol/diesel?

Tata Sierra has three new 1.5 liter engine options, which meet the needs of different users. Transmissions are also available both manual and automatic. Let's see in detail, what is the maximum mileage that Tata Sierra can give with different engine and transmission options?

1.5L Turbo Petrol (Hyperion Turbo GDi Engine – 160 PS/255 Nm)

Get ready! Tata Sierra EV is coming, seen for the first time during testing

Get ready! Tata Sierra EV is coming, seen for the first time during testing

New Delhi. Tata Motors recently launched the much-awaited Sierra SUV in India, with prices starting at Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Taking this momentum forward, the company is now preparing to launch its electric version, Tata Sierra EV. The test mule of Sierra EV has been seen on Indian roads, giving customers a glimpse of it. The spy shots show several mechanical upgrades and design changes, which make it different from its petrol-diesel variants. This is Tata's next big step towards sustainable mobility.

Tata Sierra EV
Battery pack options in Tata Sierra EV can be taken from Harrier EV, in which 65kWh and 75kWh configurations can be found. It is likely to come in both two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants, as seen in the Harrier EV. However, Tata may keep the power figures of the Sierra EV slightly lower than its elder brother, so that the difference between the two products remains clear. This will also improve efficiency and priority will be given to driving range. These changes clearly reflect Tata's strategy, in which the balance between capability, practicality and right place in the portfolio has been maintained.

Spy shots surfaced
Recent spy shots of the Tata Sierra EV confirm its electric identity, with the absence of an exhaust pipe clearly highlighting the change in powertrain. The most important thing is that according to media reports, Sierra EV will get independent rear suspension setup, which is much better than the beam axle arrangement commonly found in this segment. This advanced suspension is not only expensive but also provides many benefits. This reduces body roll during cornering and improves wheel articulation on rough roads, thereby increasing stability, comfort and capability. This makes Sierra EV a more advanced and versatile SUV.

Independent rear suspension
Tata Motors' introduction of independent rear suspension in the Sierra EV represents a departure from the affordable standards of the mid-size SUV segment. While most rivals rely on simple and cheap setups, this advanced design improves driving dynamics and comfort. With this, Sierra EV can be presented as a premium product, due to which its price can be higher in Tata's electric portfolio.

Interior Specifications
Although Tata Motors has not confirmed the interior specifications of the Sierra EV, the SUV is expected to get several cosmetic and functional upgrades in line with the brand's electric portfolio. This may include better connectivity through the Arcade.ev app suite, closed-off grille for aerodynamics, special .ev badging and aero-optimized alloy wheels to reduce drag. Apart from this, the Tata Sierra EV can also be given a digital interior rear-view mirror, as is found in the Harrier EV, in which the rear-mounted camera provides a clear and unobstructed view.
