Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Toyota's new electric SUV creates a stir, is based on Maruti Grand E Vitara

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Toyota's new electric SUV creates a stir, is based on Maruti Grand E Vitara

New Delhi. Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has unveiled its new electric SUV Urban Cruiser EV. This is the first time that official pictures of this electric car have been revealed. The company had presented a glimpse of this model based on Maruti Suzuki's eVX concept SUV about a year ago.

Now its production ready version is ready for launch. A glimpse of the concept model is clearly visible in its design and features. The special thing is that it is very similar to Maruti's upcoming E Vitara electric SUV.

launch timeline
Toyota is currently focusing the Urban Cruiser EV for the European market. If reports are to be believed, it can be showcased in India at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 in January next year. Its sale in the European market is likely to start by June-July next year. The company has not yet given any confirmation regarding its launch in India, but it is believed that after the launch of Maruti Suzuki E Vitara Electric, Toyota can also launch this SUV in the Indian market.

Design and look
This SUV is basically based on Maruti Suzuki E Vitara. Despite this, many new changes have been made in it. The Urban Cruiser EV has modern LED daytime running lights, new headlamps and a redesigned rear profile. It has been given a premium look with Toyota badging.

Talking about the side profile, it has black plastic cladding and 18 or 19 inch aero-optimized wheels, which give it a sporty touch. The design of the rear door handle in the C-pillar is inspired by the Maruti Suzuki E Vitara.

Size and dimensions
The production model of the Urban Cruiser EV is slightly smaller than the concept model. Its length is 4,285 mm, width is 1,800 mm and height is 1,640 mm. Compared to the concept model, its length and width are 15 mm and 20 mm less respectively, while the height has increased by 20 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,700 mm, making it slightly larger than the Suzuki E Vitara.

Cabin and interior
The interior of the Urban Cruiser EV is equipped with excellent design and modern features. It includes a “squircle” steering wheel, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Apart from this, the cabin has premium features like drive mode, single-zone auto climate control, wireless phone charging, powered driver seat adjustment, JBL sound system and sunroof. The rear seats have the option of sliding, reclining and 40:20:40 split-folding, ensuring more comfort for the passengers.

powertrain options
Toyota has introduced this electric SUV with two battery options. It has Lithium-Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery packs with 49kWh and 61kWh capacity. The smaller battery variant generates 144hp power and 189Nm torque, while the larger battery variant generates 174hp power and the same torque.

Safety Features
Advanced safety features have been taken care of in the Urban Cruiser EV. It has a 360-degree camera and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which includes pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and lane-departure alert. It is expected that it will also be provided with 6 airbags as standard safety.

Expected launch in Indian market
However, the company has not given any information regarding the launch date of Urban Cruiser EV for the Indian market. But it is believed that it can be introduced in the Indian market by the end of 2025. Keeping in mind the needs of Indian customers, some changes can also be made in it. This SUV of Toyota can play an important role in meeting the increasing demand for electric vehicles not only in the global market but also in India.
