The Jeep Wrangler has launched the Wrangler JL-2A, as the brand has always had a fairly obvious link to the brand’s military past, but the new JL-2A takes that connection several steps further. Based on the Wrangler Rubicon, the 2027 Wrangler JL-2A draws inspiration from the 1945 Willys CJ-2A, the first Jeep designed specifically for civilian use. The special edition forms the 11th instalment of Jeep’s year-long Twelve 4 Twelve series and focuses mainly on visual and interior changes rather than introducing a new mechanical package. Jeep will open orders for the JL-2A in October, with the package priced at $4,995 (~Rs 4.80 lakh).

Jeep Wrangler JL-2A: Design and Interior
The two-door Wrangler JL-2A gets Gobi paint as standard, a colour chosen to echo the Harvest Tan finish offered on the original CJ-2A. Four-door versions can be specified in ’41, Bright White, Sting Gray, Ghost and Joose. The most noticeable change comes from the 17-inch wheels, which are finished in Joose. The colour references the Sunset Red wheels used on the CJ-2A. These are paired with 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tyres. Orange tow hooks at both ends continue the same theme. Jeep has also added Dark Metallic Grey detailing to the seven-slot grille. Body-colour fender flares and a three-piece hardtop round off the exterior treatment.

The retro theme continues inside, but the materials are firmly from the modern Wrangler era. The JL-2A gets Nappa Heritage Tan leather seats, along with Bison Brown leather on the centre console, lower dashboard and door panels. Desert Orange stitching provides a contrast that matches the exterior wheel and tow-hook treatment. Other details make the connection to the Willys more direct.

The shifter carries a Willys-Overland satin chrome medallion, while the HVAC vents feature graphics showing the seven-slot grille and a Willys silhouette. A special rear swing-gate plaque recreates the artwork from the CJ-2A’s original dashboard data plate, including farm and factory scenes that reflect the vehicle’s early agricultural and industrial role.
Jeep Wrangler JL-2A: Engine and Off-Road Hardware
Jeep has not announced any mechanical changes for the JL-2A. The edition is based on the Wrangler Rubicon, retaining its off-road-focused hardware, including electronic locking front and rear differentials, an electronic sway-bar disconnect, and the Rock-Trac HD 4×4 system. The standard equipment also includes a front TrailCam with an integrated washer. The Convenience Group adds remote start, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and a universal garage door opener.

The 2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A package carries an MSRP of $4,995 (~Rs 4.80 lakh) and will be available to order from October. Jeep says the package costs $115 (~Rs 11,035) more than a similarly equipped Wrangler Rubicon, although the $4,995 (~Rs 4.80 lakh) figure refers to the JL-2A package rather than the complete vehicle price. The Wrangler JL-2A is therefore less about changing what the Wrangler can do off-road and more about giving the modern SUV a direct visual link to the CJ-2A that started Jeep’s civilian story in 1945.
