New Delhi. A few days ago, Tata Motors announced that it would re -enter the passenger vehicle (PV) segment in South Africa. Now the company has introduced its first models in the country. The Indian car manufacturer has re -entered the PV market of Africa after a 6 -year gap. Tata Motors first entered the PV market in South Africa with Indica and IndiGo in 2004. The brand later enhanced its product portfolio by introducing Vista, Safari and Area. However, the market challenges forced the company to close business in 2019. Tata has partnered with Motus Holdings Limited.

On the occasion of the launch of Tata Motors in South Africa, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited Managing Director Shailesh Chandra said, “It is a big achievement for us to start a business again in South Africa. We are a big achievement for us. Which gives importance to safety, quality and innovation. ”

4 models available

The company introduced 4 models at the launch event in Johannesburg, including Harrier, Curve, Panch and Tiago. All four cars have been prepared in India, while sales in South Africa will be handled by Motus Holdings. At the time of launch, TMPV 40 will be powered through the National Network of 40 dealerships, and plans to increase them by 2026 to 60. Tata Cars Harrier is currently the main offering of Tata in South Africa on sales in South Africa. The 4.6 meter long mid-size SUV, the Harrier is powered with a 2.0-liter cryotech diesel engine that generates 168 bhp and 350 Nm peak torque. This motor has been paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

On the other hand, the length of the curve is 4,308 mm. Coupe SUV is offered only with a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine that generates 118 bhp and 170 Nm peak torque. Panch and Tiago get the same 1.2-liter natural aspirated petrol engine. In this, the engine generates 86 bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque, while later it generates 84 bhp and 113 Nm peak torque.
