Ather has launched the Konarc electric scooter in India at a starting price of Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom). The new scooter introduces the company’s EL platform, which has been developed around lower costs and simpler servicing. The Konarc range starts with the S 100 km and goes up to the S 161 km at launch.

Ather Konarc EV: Design
The Konarc is the first Ather scooter to use a metal body. It gets a steel unibody chassis and an aluminium frame, along with a 14-inch front alloy wheel and a 12-inch rear alloy wheel. The front tyre measures 90/90-14, while the rear uses a 100/90-12 tyre. The scooter has a 1,352mm wheelbase and comes with a padded pillion grab rail and adjustable backrest.
There is 31 litres of storage space under the seat. This gives the Konarc enough room for everyday items and adds to its focus on regular commuting. The metal body also marks a change from the construction used on Ather’s existing scooters, while the aluminium frame is used as part of the chassis setup.
Ather Konarc EV: Features
Ather has used different front brake setups across the three launch variants. The S 100 km gets a drum brake, while the S 125 km and S 161 km get a disc brake. A rear drum brake is standard. All three variants use Ather’s Advanced Electronic Braking System, or AeBS. The company claims the system can increase peak braking force by up to 20 percent compared with a standard setup. The entry-level version gets a 4.2-inch DeepView display, while the higher variants use a 7-inch unit.
The Konarc also introduces MagicKey, which works as a keyless ignition system. The rider can operate the scooter without a physical key, while the system can lock the scooter after the rider walks away. Other features include AutoHold and FallSafe. Bluetooth connectivity is also available for call and music alerts, depending on the variant.
Ather Konarc EV: Battery and Range
The S 100 km gets a 2.1kWh battery, while the S 125 km and S 161 km use 2.7kWh and 3.5kWh packs, respectively. All three batteries have an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance and are housed in aluminium casings. A 450W onboard charger is standard. Depending on the version, a 0-80 percent charge takes between 4 hours and 5 hours 40 minutes.

Ather will also offer a 450W portable charger. When used with the onboard charger, the combined output rises to 900W, reducing the claimed 0-80 percent charging time to as little as 2 hours. The IDC range is rated at 100km, 125km and 161km.
The Konarc has a claimed top speed of 70km/h across the three launch versions. The S 100 km takes 5 seconds to reach 40km/h, while the S 125 km and S 161 km take 4.7 seconds. The PMSM motor produces either 4.7kW (6bhp) of peak power and 16Nm of torque. The scooter also gets a claimed gradeability of 16 degrees, along with SmartEco, Eco and Power riding modes.
