MG Windsor EV: Country's cheapest electric SUV launched, running cost will be only Rs 3.5 lakh

New Delhi. MG Motor India has finally launched its third full electric car, the Windsor EV, in India. The introductory price of this car has been fixed at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). However, there is a big twist in this. This price is only for the car, while the company will rent the battery as a “service”, which will be charged Rs 3.5 per kilometer.

Bookings for the MG Windsor EV will begin from October 3, and test drives will be available from October 13. So far, the company has not revealed the full price and delivery dates of this compact utility vehicle (CUV). The Windsor EV will be available in three variants including Excite, Exclusive, and Essence.

MG Windsor EV: Exterior
As mentioned earlier, the MG Windsor EV is a rebadged version of the Wuling Cloud EV sold in China. Inspired by the design of the Cloud EV, the Windsor EV features a sleek split headlight setup and connected LED DRLs. Its side profile looks quite simple and attractive, with flush door handles and 18-inch alloy wheels giving it a clean and modern look.

MG Windsor EV: Features are great
Inside the car, there is a massive 15.6-inch infotainment system, which is the largest in its segment and offers seamless connectivity with integrated apps like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and JioSaavn. The 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster further enhances the driving experience. The rear seat reclines up to 135 degrees, while the front electrically adjustable seats and rear AC vents add extra comfort.

One special thing is that the MG Windsor EV is the first mass-market EV to feature a stunning glass roof. Apart from this, it has premium features like 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 256 multi-color ambient lights. Other features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 9-speaker Infinity sound system, wireless phone charging, and powered tailgate.

MG Windsor EV: Battery and Range
The MG Windsor EV is powered by a 38kWh LFP battery that uses prismatic cells. The battery sends power to an electric motor that is mounted on the front axle. The motor produces 134 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. According to ARAI, it has an estimated range of 331 km on a single full charge. It has four drive modes: Eco, Eco+, Normal, and Sport.

MG Motor is also offering multiple charging options with the Windsor EV. This includes a 3.3 kW CCS2 connection, which takes 13.8 hours to charge the battery. Apart from this, 7.4 kW and 50 kW charging options are also available, which can charge the battery in 6.5 hours and 55 minutes respectively. The battery can also be charged with a 45 kW DC fast charger. Along with this, MG is renting out the battery as a service at a rate of Rs 3.5 per km.

MG Windsor EV: How much will it cost to run?
Suppose you travel 50,000 kms in a year with this electric car, then the battery rent will cost you less than Rs 2 lakh. That means after buying MG Windsor EV, you will pay Rs 3.5 lakh as battery subscription cost.

The five-door Mahindra Thar Rocks is arriving at dealerships across India and test drives are set to begin from September 14. Prospective buyers can reserve it from October 3 by visiting Mahindra's official website, while select dealerships have already started taking unofficial bookings for the new off-roader. Registration prices could be around Rs 1,500. From Rs 20,000 It is expected to cost around Rs 25,000, but it would be advisable to enquire at the nearest local dealership.

The new Thar Rocks is positioned above its three-door model and carries a starting price hike of Rs 1,000. 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom) off-roader SUV features upgrades to the interior and safety suite as well as added practicality and off-road functionality. Previous versions have established a cult-like popularity for the SUV, so the demand for the new five-door version is likely to increase significantly.

2024 Mahindra Thar Rocks: Key Features

The Mahindra Thar Rocks is offered with two engine options: a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel. The petrol engine is only available with rear-wheel drive and produces 160 bhp and 330 Nm of torque with a manual gearbox or 174 bhp and 380 Nm of torque with a torque converter. The diesel engine offers rear-wheel drive and 4×4 configurations, producing 150 bhp and 330 Nm of torque with a manual or 171 bhp and 370 Nm of torque with the same TCA gearbox.

The five-door Thar gets a host of safety technologies, including a Level-2 ADAS with 10 features. It gets stability control, cruise control and traction control as well as hill hold and descent. Mahindra has also fitted a 360-degree surround view camera with blind spot monitoring and EPB with auto-hold functionality.

Along with the TCA gearbox, the Mahindra Thar Rocks gets two new off-roading features over the older three-door Thar, and these are called CrawlSmart and Intelliturn. CrawlSmart allows the driver to maintain low speeds between 2.5 kmph to 30 kmph without any input, and it can automatically adjust the throttle to overcome obstacles in the car's path. Intelliturn also assists in steering in difficult terrains by locking one of the rear wheels using the electronic locking differential.

PM E-Drive: If you are going to buy a new electric car, now you will not get subsidy, two-three wheelers are included in PM E-Drive

New Delhi. To promote the sale of electric vehicles, the central government has announced a new subsidy scheme PM E-Drive. This scheme has been implemented after the FAME II subsidy scheme ended in March this year. However, only electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and electric buses are included in this subsidy scheme, while electric and hybrid cars are out of this scheme. This scheme will remain in force till March 2025.

Under PM E-Drive, a total amount of Rs 10,900 crore has been set aside for 24,80,000 electric two-wheelers, 3,16,000 three-wheelers and 14,028 electric buses. This will be implemented as the third phase of the FAME scheme. Let us tell you that under the FAME-2 scheme, more than 16 lakh electric vehicles have been provided the benefit of subsidy.

Availability of charging stations will increase
Additionally, Rs 500 crore each has been set aside for electric trucks and hybrid ambulances, aimed at promoting EV adoption in critical service sectors and the commercial vehicle segment for the first time. The scheme for trucks will provide incentives only to those who have a scrapping certificate obtained from vehicle scrapping centres approved by the Road Ministry.

The e-drive scheme will also aim to develop a comprehensive charging infrastructure. Charging infrastructure development is also being promoted, with Rs 2,000 crore being provided for installing 22,100 fast chargers for electric four-wheelers, 1800 fast chargers for e-buses and 48,400 fast chargers for e-two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

Apart from the subsidy, the government also announced a Payment Security Mechanism Fund (PSMF) of Rs 3,435 crore for 38,000 electric buses, which will reduce financial risks for bus operators and promote electrification of the public transport network.

Those who buy electric cars will not get subsidy
Those buying private electric cars under the PM E-Drive scheme have been excluded from the subsidy. This is a big blow to India's largest electric car company Tata Motors and other electric passenger car manufacturers.

Union Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy said the aim is to achieve 10% EV penetration in the two-wheeler sector and 15% EV penetration in the three-wheeler sector by March 2026 and accelerate the adoption of EVs and set up the necessary charging infrastructure to promote clean transportation. Responding to a question about the reason for excluding electric cars from the scheme, he said GST for private electric cars is at the lower slab of 5%.

निसान मैग्नाइट में कोई मैकेनिकल बदलाव नहीं करेगा। इसमें एक नैचुरली एस्पिरेटेड यूनिट और एक टर्बोचार्ज्ड यूनिट है। दोनों ही तीन-सिलेंडर इंजन हैं और इनकी क्षमता 1.0-लीटर है। नैचुरली एस्पिरेटेड इंजन 71 बीएचपी और 96 एनएम उत्पन्न करता है जबकि टर्बोचार्ज्ड यूनिट 98 बीएचपी और 160 एनएम तक उत्पन्न करता है। नैचुरली एस्पिरेटेड इंजन 5-स्पीड मैनुअल गियरबॉक्स या 5-स्पीड AMT के साथ आता है। दूसरी ओर, टर्बोचार्ज्ड इंजन में 5-स्पीड मैनुअल गियरबॉक्स या CVT ऑटोमैटिक ट्रांसमिशन मिलता है।

Apart from this, it has dual-tone alloy wheels, black-coloured front door handles, front camera, body-coloured rear door handles mounted on the C-pillar, square LED taillights and faux skid plates.

Some of its key features include panoramic sunroof (single pan unit for mid-spec variants), large touchscreen unit, dual-zone climate control, ADAS safety suite, ventilated front seats, cruise control, automatic climate control and many more.

Petrol engine with diesel option
The Thar Rocks is powered by Mahindra's 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engines, which could come with six-speed manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes. Apart from rivals like the Force Gurkha five-door, the Thar Rocks will also compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.

An Ola electric scooter owner allegedly set the company's showroom in Karnataka on fire after the company failed to fix issues with his EV.

An Ola Electric scooter customer in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, allegedly set the company's showroom on fire after problems with his new electric scooter were not resolved. A video of the burning showroom has gone viral on social media, sparking a debate over the move as well as previous allegations against Ola Electric's allegedly shoddy service quality.

Mohammed Nadeem, who is facing arson charges, bought an Ola electric scooter in August. The electric scooter reportedly started developing multiple problems soon and the issues persisted even after Nadeem took it to the showroom for repairs. Though the exact nature of the problems with the scooter is not yet known, news agencies reported that Nadeem had an argument with showroom officials on Tuesday evening. “The servicing request was not good, he went multiple times,” Kalaburagi police commissioner told news agency PTI. “When he went yesterday (Tuesday), he had petrol with him and he set six bikes on fire.”

There is no news of any casualties in the fire, but the showroom has suffered heavy damage. This becomes clear from the video viral on social media.

Netizens have come out to criticise such an extreme – and illegal – act, and have highlighted that there were still other ways for Ola Electric’s sales and service representatives to resolve the issue with this particular electric scooter unit. However, many have also pointed out once again that Ola Electric’s after-sales network needs to be far more efficient than it currently is.

Ola reacts to the fire incident

Late Wednesday evening, Ola Electric reacted to the fire incident in Kalaburagi by strongly condemning it. “Yesterday, a fire broke out at one of our brand stores in Kalaburagi, Karnataka,” the company said in a message. “The perpetrator of this violent act has been identified and an FIR has been filed against the said person at the concerned police station. He has been arrested and investigation is underway. Apart from the FIR, we at Ola strongly condemn such unlawful acts and will take all necessary legal measures to ensure appropriate and strict action is taken in this matter and such incidents do not happen again.”

MG Windsor EV Launch — MG Motor is expected to price the Windsor EV aggressively to take on some of the more popular electric cars in India like the Tata Nexon EV.

The MG Windsor EV is all set to be officially launched in India today and will be the first crossover utility vehicle (CUV) from the manufacturer that also sells the ZS EV and the Comet EV in the country. While JSW MG Motor India has expertise in offering battery-powered mobility options, this is the first time it is entering the CUV space and is looking to cement its credentials of offering zero-emission, tech-laden cars that also offer great comfort. Now while the Windsor EV is essentially a re-badged version of the Wuling Cloud EV that is already sold in several international markets, the India-specific model is likely to feature some changes that will be unique to here. What does the name 'Windsor' mean?

On August 1, JSW MG Motor India confirmed that the Cloud EV in India will be called the Windsor EV. The company said that the name is named after Windsor Castle in the UK. A press release issued by the company at the time stated, “Windsor Castle is renowned across the world as a symbol of royalty and majesty, which is reflected in every detail of this CUV, which exudes fine craftsmanship, premiumness and spaciousness.”

Why is JSW MG Motor focusing on EVs?

MG is not one of the major players in the Indian car market. But it still sees a lot of potential in the nascent electric car market, where Tata Motors has a huge share. Companies like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are either not present or at least missing from the sub-brands. In the Rs 20 lakh price segment, new players have a level playing field. Around 35 to 40 per cent of MG's total sales in the country come from its electric models – the ZS EV and the Comet EV. Adding a third model in the form of the Windsor EV could add traction for the company, while other companies are also looking to enter the battery-mobility space. Joint venture between MG and JSW Group

In 2023, MG, owned by China's SAIC Motor, signed a joint venture with India's JSW Group. Battery-powered cars are seen as a key driver of growth, with executives claiming at least one new product is launched every three to six months here. The same executives also claim that the company is aiming to sell one million EVs in India by 2030.

MG began its journey in India in 2019 and the Hector was its go-to product at the time. The Hector remains its most popular model and competes in the mid-size SUV space. In the following years, the company also rolled out models such as a three-row version of the Hector called the Hector Plus, Astor, Gloster, ZS EV and Comet EV. The company has repeatedly underlined its ability to offer tech-heavy vehicles that primarily appeal to the young car-buying audience. But despite the options in its product portfolio, it is the Hector that remains the power player for the brand here.

Ioniq 9 में अपने ट्विन मॉडल की तरह ही e-GMP प्लैटफ़ॉर्म का ही एक्सटेंडेड वर्शन इस्तेमाल किया जाएगा और इसमें भी वही 99.8kWh बैटरी पैक होने की संभावना है। EV9 की तरह ही, 203hp सिंगल-मोटर और 383hp डुअल-मोटर सेट-अप पेश किए जाएंगे। संभावना है कि SUV में हॉट N वैरिएंट शामिल किया जाएगा, क्योंकि EV9 के 'GT' वर्शन को पहले ही नूरबर्गरिंग में टेस्टिंग के दौरान देखा जा चुका है। इससे Ioniq 9 में 650hp डुअल-मोटर, फोर-व्हील-ड्राइव पावरट्रेन इस्तेमाल करने का मामला बनता है जो Ioniq 5 N को आगे बढ़ाता है।

उम्मीद है कि इंटीरियर के हिस्से नए हुंडई मॉडल जैसे सांता फ़े एसयूवी और आने वाली नई पैलिसेड के समान होंगे। इसमें कई स्क्रीन, सॉफ्ट टच मटेरियल और पूरे केबिन में फैली नकली लकड़ी और एल्युमीनियम होगी। अन्य हुंडई मॉडल की तरह, ऑडियो और क्लाइमेट के लिए फिजिकल कंट्रोल बनाए रखे जाएंगे। हवा की दिशा जैसे कम महत्वपूर्ण कार्यों को क्लाइमेट डायल के बीच एक टच पैनल में मैप किया जाएगा। गियर चयनकर्ता सांता फ़े के समान ही होने की उम्मीद है: स्टीयरिंग कॉलम पर एक घुमावदार डायल।

उम्मीद है कि हुंडई की आगामी फ्लैगशिप इलेक्ट्रिक एसयूवी के बारे में अधिक जानकारी इस साल के अंत तक इसके वैश्विक प्रदर्शन के समय सामने आएगी।

Now the country's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is also going to enter this race. The company can soon launch an electric car with a powerful battery and a range of up to 500 kilometers in India. The company's CEO and MD Hisashi Takeuchi has also hinted towards this.

He said Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) will launch an electric vehicle with a range of 500 km, which will be powered by a 60 kWh battery and the company will have several such products. He also highlighted the company's aim to significantly increase exports by 2030. Hisashi shared this information at the 64th annual convention of industry body SIAM held on September 10.

Electric cars will be exported from India
Hisashi also said that Maruti will also export these EVs to markets like Europe and Japan to increase customer confidence. The company will come up with a variety of solutions for its EV customers to address their concerns related to buying an EV. For this, the carmaker will use the strength of its network to provide after-sales customer support to the customers.

In the domestic market, Maruti is looking to use all kinds of technologies in its cars to tackle carbon emissions. Apart from electric and hybrid cars, the auto maker is also looking at developing models around bio-fuel and hydrogen, including technologies like hydrogen, strong hybrid, biofuel or powertrain options to reduce oil consumption and CO2 emissions.

When will Maruti's first electric car come
So far in India, Maruti has unveiled its concept electric car eVX. The company introduced it at the 2023 Auto Expo. However, this is not the final model and there can be many changes in its production model. The final model of Maruti eVX can be revealed between 14-20 January. At the same time, its launch can happen in April 2025. This car will come with modern features, such as Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), and its price can be between Rs 20-25 lakh.

What will be the features of Maruti's electric car
Maruti's electric car will be equipped with a 60 kilowatt hour (KWH) lithium-ion battery which will offer the car a range of 500 km on a single charge. If we talk about the features of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki EVX, then it can get advanced safety technology like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, digital instrument cluster, drive modes, automatic climate control, wireless charger, ventilated and powered front seats, adjustable headrests and level-2 ADAS.

New Delhi. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Tuesday announced significant changes in the National Highway Fee Rules. The new rules, called the “National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Amendment Rules, 2024”, introduce a zero-fee policy for the first 20 kilometres of travel on national highways. That is, you will not have to pay any toll for a journey of 20 kilometres.

This provision will be applicable only for those vehicles which are equipped with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) on-board unit. As per the latest amendment, vehicles other than those with national permit will not have to pay any fee for the first 20 kms of travel on national highway, permanent bridge, bypass or tunnel.

Toll will be charged only if the vehicle is driven more than 20 km
If a distance of more than 20 km is travelled in a day, users will be charged toll only for the actual travel distance over 20 km. The change is aimed at reducing the financial burden on drivers for short journeys, while maintaining a fair fee structure for longer journeys.

The order issued by the ministry said, “Under the Global Navigation Satellite System based user fee collection system, the driver, owner or person in charge of a motor vehicle other than a national permit vehicle using the same section will be charged zero-fee for travel up to 20 km per direction. If the distance exceeds 20 km, then only the actual travel distance will be charged.”

Earlier, in July, the Road Ministry had announced the implementation of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based toll collection system on a pilot basis on select national highways as an additional feature along with FASTag.
