XUV 7XO has been shown several times in spy shots and official teasers, which clearly shows that it will target the feature-loaded family SUV segment. The brand continued to dominate month after month, driven by its large portfolio, which ranges from entry-level hatchbacks to high volume SUVs. Demand for 2.50 lakh units during the festive season in October and consistently good monthly sales kept Maruti Suzuki well ahead of its rivals. Telangana contributed around 49,000 units – further boosting the company's overall figures as per vehicle registration data. The Indo-Japanese manufacturer launched the Victoris midsize SUV a few months ago, which has received a good response from customers. The SUV range will soon get further expansion with the arrival of Brezza facelift and e Vitara.

Mahindra at number 2
Mahindra & Mahindra secured second position with 6,07,447 units in the last calendar year. The company, which focuses on SUVs, benefited from the continued demand for models like Scorpio, Bolero, XUV 700, XUV 3XO and Thar, which saw a significant jump in sales due to festive shopping in October and November. Sales of all top brands increased in the second half of the year due to GST 2.0 tax exemption.

Tesla's second consecutive decline in annual sales comes amid the expiration of US tax credits for EV purchases as well as the political influence of CEO Elon Musk. The company expects to sell 1.6 million EVs in 2025 after reporting a 16 percent decline in deliveries during the fourth quarter.

By contrast, BYD reported a 28 percent increase in EV sales to 2.64 million, with slightly less than half of its portfolio being electric. Its total sales increased by 7.7 percent at the end of the year, bringing its global lineup to 4.6 million.

For years, Tesla has been way ahead of its rivals in the EV sector, be it development or sales. With the rate at which the market has grown in the last decade, the scope of competition has increased significantly. At the same time, the rise of Chinese EV makers on the global stage has proven detrimental to the sales figures of brands in the rest of the world.

The brand faced widespread criticism over Musk's embrace of American politics and his association with the Trump presidency and later leading the controversial Department of Government Efficiency. DOGE was established to cut down on 'wasteful' federal spending and bureaucracy. To date, it has canceled thousands of federal contracts and grants worth billions, and these include more than 5,000 USAID grants, awards and contracts, as well as millions in research and education grants.

Musk's political support and DOGE leadership have significantly hurt Tesla's sales, drawing criticism from environmentalists and environmentally conscious buyers and prompting protests at facilities. Even before the launch, the design updates of the SUV have been shown in the teaser video. Now in the new pictures that have surfaced, a glimpse of its exterior and interior can be clearly seen, in which the changes have been shown with more detail and quality.

In these photos, the SUV has been shown from the front, side and rear, in which its new design is clearly visible. This includes a refreshed grille, new headlights and reworked bumpers, which give the SUV a sharper and modern look. Its front profile has LED headlights with newly designed DRLs, animated indicators and better internal elements. The grille is large and refined, with eight vertical slats and the Twin Peaks logo in the center. The new bumper comes with stylish fog lamps, silver skid plate and reworked air dam. The platform of Maruti Suzuki Victoris is shared with the Grand Vitara, which is already available in the Indian market. Same chassis and engine options are available in both the vehicles. Retail sales of 24,000 units of Grand Vitara were recorded in December 2025, with prices starting from Rs 10.77 lakh to Rs 19.72 lakh (ex-showroom).

It has 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options, as well as the option of factory-fitted CNG kit. Maruti Suzuki India Limited has recorded the highest ever annual production of more than 22.55 lakh vehicles in the calendar year 2025, which shows the continuously increasing production in the last five years. The country's largest car manufacturing company has continuously increased production. 16.29 lakh units were produced in 2021, 19.16 lakh units in 2022, 19.34 lakh units in 2023 and 20.63 lakh units in 2024, after which a new record was made in 2025. This is the second consecutive year when Maruti Suzuki's annual production has crossed the figure of 20 lakh units.

Demand for hatchback and compact SUV
Production in 2025 included vehicles for domestic sales, exports and supply to OEMs, reflecting the company's manufacturing diversity. The five models with the highest production this year were – Ford, Baleno, Swift, Dezire and Ertiga. These figures show that there is a steady demand in both the hatchback and compact SUV segments.

Commenting on the achievement, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said the record production is a result of the hard work of the employees and close collaboration with supplier partners. He also said that the high level of localization has helped the company in large scale production while maintaining global quality standards, due to which competition in this segment is continuously increasing in India.

Preparation to increase production up to 40 lakhs
Maruti Suzuki currently runs its manufacturing plants in Gurugram, Manesar and Kharkhoda in Haryana, and recently the Gujarat plant has also been included in it. The company manufactures 17 models and more than 650 variants across all its plants. In future plans, Maruti Suzuki is preparing to increase its annual production capacity to 40 lakh units to meet the growing domestic demand and also to strengthen its exports under the 'Make in India' initiative of the Government of India.

At the same time, the performant variant of the electric SUV will be available at the same price as before. According to the company, only the old prices will be applicable on bookings made on or before December 31, 2025. After the price change on January 1, the BYD Sealion 7 premium model with 82.56 kWh battery will now be available for Rs 49,40,000, which was earlier Rs 48,90,000. Whereas, the price of Sealion 7 Performance model will remain only Rs 54,90,000. This is a big step for the company as this SUV is one of its flagship models. Since its launch in the country, 2,300 units of this SUV have been sold so far.

Cell-to-body design and blade battery technology
BYD Sealion 7 has the company's cell-to-body design and blade battery technology. Both variants have 82.56 kWh battery and have received 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. The performance variant has a power of 522 hp and a torque of 690 Nm, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km per hour in just 4.5 seconds. The premium variant produces 308 hp power and 380 Nm torque, and accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds. The certified range of these vehicles is up to 567 km as per NEDC cycle.

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Friday said the removal of Stage 3 restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP 3) does not mark a lull in anti-pollution efforts, adding that grassroots enforcement in the national capital will continue with the same intensity.

He said the withdrawal of restrictions should be seen as a response to improvement in air quality and not as a sign of ease in monitoring, as agencies have been directed to continue field-level action without any interruption.

AQI has declined significantly

Sirsa said the sub-committee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) took the decision to revoke the GRAP 3 restrictions after seeing significant improvement in air quality. Delhi's air quality index (AQI) fell sharply from 380 to 236 within 24 hours, an official statement said.

Bawana recorded an AQI of 141, placing it in the 'good' category, officials said, reflecting the impact of intensive anti-pollution measures implemented on the ground.

Action on major pollution sources

The Environment Minister said that after sustained efforts to control major pollution sources such as vehicle emissions, industrial effluents, dust and open dumping, GRAP 3 restrictions were lifted on Friday.

“We are encouraged by the progress, but this is not the time to relax. Grassroots action will continue with the same strength to consolidate the gains we have made,” Sirsa said.

Citywide enforcement activity

Data shared by the environment department shows that there has been massive enforcement activity across Delhi in the last 24 hours. Authorities issued 6,596 challans for vehicle emission violations as part of efforts to curb transport-related pollution.

During the same period, around 12,000 metric tonnes of garbage was removed from various areas of the city. Officials said 6,261 km long roads were mechanically cleaned to reduce the dust load, while 2,315 metric tonnes of construction and demolition waste was collected and taken for scientific disposal.

Enforcement teams conducted 405 inspections at illegal dumping sites, resulting in 156 enforcement actions. The authorities also eased 40 traffic congestion points in major corridors, while 99 light motor vehicles were challaned for violating entry restrictions.

Industrial Monitoring and Technology Measures

Sirsa said pollution control teams are focusing on source-level mitigation. This includes compliance checks at industrial clusters and deployment of smog guns and anti-smog vehicles at traffic-heavy stretches and identified pollution hotspots.

He said initiatives like legacy waste biomining at the rate of 35 metric tonnes per day, along with the expansion of clean technology interventions in the industrial and transport sectors, are beginning to show measurable results.

Reiterating the government's resolve, the minister said as Delhi's fight against pollution continues, agencies are strengthening and adapting their response to ensure clean air for the city.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has set a new production benchmark by manufacturing more than 22.55 lakh vehicles in 2025. This is the highest annual production in the company's history.

Additionally, this milestone marks the second consecutive year that the automaker has crossed the 20 lakh unit production mark. Total production includes vehicles manufactured for the domestic market, exports and OEM supplies.

Frontend, Baleno lead production charts

Production during the year was largely driven by high-volume models such as the Forex, Baleno, Swift, Dzire and Ertiga, which together accounted for a large share of the overall manufacturing volume. The company said the strong performance reflects its ability to closely align production plans with customer demand in India and overseas markets.

Manufacturing footprint still growing

Maruti Suzuki began manufacturing operations in 1983 with its Gurugram facility in Haryana. Since then, the company has continuously expanded its production base, supported by a multi-tier supplier network and extensive dealer ecosystem.

Its manufacturing operations are now spread across the Gujarat plant as well as Gurugram, Manesar and Kharkhoda in Haryana, which have recently been integrated into the company's operations. At these plants, Maruti Suzuki currently manufactures 17 models with over 650 variants.
