Mahindra Scorpio N waiting period drops to 35-40 weeks

Ever since Mahindra launched the Scorpio N in the Indian market, it has received a tremendous response in terms of demand. Because of this, the waiting period for the SUV was very long. Since then Mahindra has been trying to reduce the waiting period. The latest update is that the waiting period is now between 35 and 40 weeks in New Delhi.

Mahindra Scorpio N is 206 mm long, 97 mm wide and has 70 mm more wheelbase compared to the Scorpio Classic. It rides on R18 and R17 diamond cut alloy wheels, and sports signature double barrel LED Projector headlamps, tall stacked LED tail lamps, shark-fin antenna and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, among other exterior features.

The Scorpio N is offered as a 6-seater or a 7-seater. It is available in four trims – Z2, Z4, Z6 and Z8. Last month, the prices of the Scorpio N were hiked. This is the third time Mahindra and Mahindra has increased the price of the Scorpio-N SUV. Earlier, the carmaker had hiked its prices in January and April. The prices start at ₹13.26 lakh and go up to ₹24.54 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom.

Mahindra is using a body-on-frame chassis for the Scorpio N. It comes with a rear-wheel drive setup with a proper 4×4 powertrain. Powering the SUV is a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine which are also doing duty on the XUV700 and the Thar.

The diesel engine is available in two tunes. The lower variants produce 130 bhp and 300 Nm whereas the higher variants put out 172 bhp and up to 400 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard whereas the higher variants also get an option of a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The petrol engine puts out 200 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of up to 380 Nm of peak torque. It is also offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Mahindra is still selling the previous generation of the Scorpio which now has been rebranded to Scorpio Classic. Its prices were hiked by ₹25,000. Mahindra Scorpio Classic is now priced between ₹13.25 lakh and ₹17.06 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom.

And while the surge is being powered overwhelmingly by SUVs in the mass-market space, the luxury segment continues to grow by leaps and bounds as well. But what about the microscopically small supercar segment here? Almost everyone would agree that our country is hardly the happy hunting ground for growling V6s and V8s. Options for the elite among elites are limited but if you do have the resources for one, why won’t you choose one? And why not the Ferrari 296 GTB then?

With its typically low-slung profile, the Ferrari 296 GTB is best when being raced around on a track. But even in real world conditions, it has enough practicality to be an occasional thrill-evoking automotive miracle.

It is a masterpiece. It is a demon. It is a revolution. It is Ferrari 296 GTB and it has touched down on Indian shores as the latest mid-rear-engined two-seater marvel. All electrics can all but wait because this here is a plug-in hybrid too. But the core power still comes from the roar of a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that puts out 654 hp all on its own. Combine it with some serious electric power and one can add another scrumptious dose of 165 hp to the mix. The electric-only range is at 25 kilometres, a distance that this supercar can race through in the blink of an eye.

For the purer among the purists, it may seem like a V6 is a ‘significant’ step down but does it really matter, especially when the Ferrari 296 GTB can do a 0 to 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds? Or when the rated top speed is at a massive 330 kmph? Or that here is a performance-based hybrid supercar from The Prancing Horse.

Performance remains at the core of the Ferrari 296 GTB even if the start on eDrive mode means here is the quietest Ferrari off the block. The electric motor kicks in by default and pushes the supercar forward. The silence before the storm? Absolutely! Engage the Performance drive mode, caress the throttle with a foot and the Ferrari 296 GTB flies faster than the fastest roller-coaster you can ever imagine. The gearshifts are typically – and aggressively – quick and that feeling of a Ferrari revving all the way to the 8,500 mark is a feeling that no written words can ever seek to do justice to. And that roar, oh that roar…

But for most parts of our quick drive though, we were surrounded by admiring fellow motorists too keen to get a closer stare. Who won’t want to do just that. Because here yet another Ferrari that looks menacingly gorgeous even when not making passionate love to the wind. Draped in the Rosso Corsa shade of Red, the model curves at all the right places for visual seduction. There is a sense of raw power on its proverbial horizon, one that also extends to the cabin where Alcantara, carbon fibre and high-quality leather converge for a perfect blend. Don’t expect the largest of display screens – and there are two screens inside. But who gets into a Ferrari for the infotainment anyway? The sports steering packs in a lot of touch-sensitive buttons and there is a learning curve to manage these.

But there is no managing the fact that the Ferrari 296 GTB is made to stand out wherever it may be standing still or racing forward at. Complete with that electric motor, it retains its mean heart with a gentle, genial purpose. At well and truly above ₹5 crore-mark, the Ferrari 296 GTB is perhaps what every modern supercar ought to be about – sense and speed.

Audi S5 Sportback Platinum Edition launched at ₹81.57 lakh

German luxury car manufacturer Audi on Monday launched the S5 Sportback Platinum Edition in India for the festive season. The limited edition model costs ₹81.57 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be offered in two colour options – District Green and Mythos Black. The model offers exclusivity combined with luxury and performance to thrill seekers and enthusiasts. This is the brand’s third special edition this festive season, after the special edition Q8 and Q5.

Audi S5 Sportback Platinum Edition is being offered in limited units for the festive season.

The special edition model sports Matrix LED headlights with laser light technology that adds a touch of sophistication to the front fascia. Ferrari to take payment in cryptocurrency for luxurious sports cars

Ferrari has reportedly claimed that it has taken the decision to accept payment through cryptocurrency after receiving requests from specific markets and dealers as many of its clients have invested in crypto. Also, the automaker has reportedly stated that it has been receiving requests from wealthy customers in the European market to open the provision of payment through cryptocurrency.

Speaking about this decision, Ferrari’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer Enrico Galliera said that cryptocurrencies had made efforts to reduce their carbon footprint through the introduction of new software and a larger use of renewable sources. “Some are young investors who have built their fortunes around cryptocurrencies,” he said revealing the reason behind accepting crypto as a means of payment, while adding, “Some others are more traditional investors, who want to diversify their portfolios.”

Cars being large ticket products cryptocurrency’s entrance in the vehicle retail segment could be the beginning of an interesting trend. However, to date, the automakers along with other blue-chip companies have steered clear of cryptocurrency as the volatility of such digital currencies renders them impractical for commercial transactions. Also, government regulations and high energy consumption too have also prevented the spread of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.

Previously, Tesla started accepting payments in cryptocurrency in 2021 for selling its electric cars. However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk halted the move later because of environmental concerns and in the face of criticism.

The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S gets subtle tweaks to the styling and cabin for the new model year

The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S gets a redesigned front apron with the AMG crest on the bonnet, which replaces the tri-star logo. The headlamps and taillights have been tweaked with a mildly revised inner design that replaces the cluster shape at the front and rear. The wheel arches are now body painted, as opposed to finished in black on the older version, which should make the model appear visually leaner than before. Mercedes is also offering 20-inch alloy wheels as standard with 21-inch wheels as an option. Customers also have the option to upgrade to multibeam LED headlamps on the new GLA 45 S.

The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S packs the 2.0-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol engine with 415.7 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque

The cabin gets subtle tweaks as well including the new AMG Performance steering wheel, while the MBUX user interface now gets enhanced computing power with an AMG-specific interface. It now supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the USB Type-C port will charge your devices faster. There’s an extra USB-C port as well. Other upgrades include new upholstery covers for the sports seats with the option to have full-blown AMG Performance seats.

Power on the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S comes from the familiar 2.0-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol engine tuned for 415.7 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque, paired with the 8-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. The performance offering can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 4.3 seconds with a top speed of 270 kmph. The model also gets an updated RACE mode as standard, while power goes to all four wheels via the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The Affalterbach-tuned SUV gets AMG Torque Control, which optimises power distribution between the front and rear axles as well as the left and right rear wheels.

There’s no word on whether the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S facelift will make its way to India. The automaker retails the delectable AMG A 45 S performance hatchback in the country and the GLA 45 S would make for a slightly more practical companion, should it be sold here. Meanwhile, the AMG GLA 35 is on sale in India.

JK Tyre to organise India’s first-ever Drift Challenge at BIC on October 16

The JK Tyre Drift Challenge will feature a grid of 25 rear-wheel drive cars driven by some of the most skilled drivers from across the country. The event will see the drivers compete on specially designed track layouts. The drivers will be judged by an international three-member panel of drifting experts comprising Alistair Woodham from India who was an ex-member of the Drift Commission of FIA, Cristiani Nanami Lazaro from Brazil and Tanakorn Lertyaovarit from Thailand. The judging criteria will centre on four main aspects – line, angle, style and speed.

Sanjay Sharma, Head-Motorsport, JK Tyre, said, “The introduction of the JK Tyre Drift Challenge marks a significant moment in Indian motorsport history. Drifting has been happening in India in silos; however, with this competition with the help of FMSCI, we will formalize norms of drifting in India and try to match it on par with global standards soon. We have always been forerunners in the Indian motorsports arena, and with this competition, we continue to pursue our aim to develop the motorsport scene here with the introduction of diverse disciplines. This challenge will not only provide a platform for the country’s talented drivers to shine but also delight motorsport enthusiasts who are hungry for a new thrill.”

The drift challengers will be scored based on the ideal line through a corner and drivers that stick as precisely to it are scored higher. Drivers also get scored at the angle at which a driver drifts the car. A more acute angle is scored higher as the driver needs to carry more speed through. Meanwhile, a shallow angle will earn a lower score.

In addition to the Drift Challenge, JK Tyre will also host the JK Tyre Formula Imperial and Indian Karting Race. Organised by the Imperial Society of Innovation Engineers (ISIEINDIA), over 2,000 students from across the country are expected to take part, demonstrating their innovation in the areas of vehicle aerodynamics, battery and powertrain design, brakes, and suspension technologies. They will be put to the test over various rounds between October 12 and 16, culminating in a 12-lap endurance finale at the BIC which will decide the winners.

Updated Tata Safari and Harrier SUVs to launch on October 17

Tata Motors on Thursday announced that the company will officially launch the updated versions of the Safari and Harrier SUVs in the market on October 17. Bookings for both Tata Safari and Harrier had been opened just last week.

Tata Harrier and Safari SUVs are the flagship models from the company in India.

Both Tata Safari and Harrier are now promising some very significant updates to the styling on the outside while also sporting a number of updates in the cabin and crucial feature updates as well. While the Safari is a three-row vehicle that is positioned more as a family vehicle, the Harrier once again targets a younger-SUV-buying audience.

The Indian car market is being powered by a sustained demand for SUVs and in this space, Tata Motors has managed to create a solid mark with both the Safari and Harrier. While only offered with a diesel engine option which means those interested in a petrol motor remain sidelined, the sales figures of both vehicles remain a firm indication of the respective popularity.

While Harrier was first launched in the market back in 2019 and Tata Motors has since sold over one lakh units of the model, the Safari was introduced in 2021 and approximately 46,000 units has been sold thus far.

What’s new in the updated Tata Safari?

The updated Tata Safari stands on 19-inch alloy wheels and comes in multiple personas.

The facelift Tata Safari has a completely reworked front face which is highlighted by a new grille and updated casing for the head lights and fog lights. Stretching across the nose is an elongated DRL light bar which comes with ‘Welcome’ and ‘Goodbye’ signature illumination. The stretched light bar also makes its way to the rear of the SUV while the alloy design has been updated as well. In the cabin, the Tata Safari gets a new 12.3-inch infotainment screen with JBL Sound Modes, a 10-inch all-digital driver display, support for Amazon Alexa and Google Home – apart from native Tata voice command integration, dual-zone climate control, mood lighting, air purification system, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and more.

What’s new in the updated Tata Harrier?

The updated Tata Harrier is offered in new and bolder body shades.

The facelift Harrier also sports a much fresher look and is now claiming to be sportier rather than all-out muscular. It gets an updated grille on the face and the an updated vertical housing for the head lights and fog lights. It too sports the same stretched DRL bar on the face as the Safari, and the same stretched tail light LED bar. The alloy design has been changed too. In the cabin, the feature list is similar to what is also offered on the updated Safari.

Tata Safari and Tata Harrier: Key specifications

Tata Motors has not brought any changes to the mechanics of both Safari and Harrier. The capable 2.0-litre diesel motor continues to do duty and is paired with both automatic and six-speed manual stick.

New-generation BMW X2 debuts with iDrive 9, promises 307 bhp power

BMW has been actively teasing the second-generation X2 crossover over the last few weeks and now, the German luxury car brand has taken the wrap off the car. The new generation BMW X2 comes with fresh styling, two powertrain options and a wide range of new technologies onboard. The new BMW X2 comes with a significantly updated design and promises up to 307 hp peak power.

The new BMW X2 gets a styling that makes it significantly different from its previous iteration. The new X2 gets a coupe-like roofline that flows seamlessly into the rear. The upright front profile, flared wheel arches and muscular rear profile give the crossover a strong and bold visual appearance compared to its predecessor. The car also comes with updated LED headlamps and taillights. The optional illuminated kidney grille is another design element that sets the X2 apart from its smaller sibling X1. The new X2 is also the first compact crossover from the automaker to come with optional 21-inch wheels.

The car comes with a clean surface thanks to minimal dynamic lines at the side profile. The door handles too come integrated with the body enhancing the aerodynamic efficiency of the car. BMW claims that the new X2 has grown by 7.6 inches in length to 179.8 inches, while its wheelbase comes 0.9 inches longer than the outgoing model.

Moving inside the cabin, the new BMW X2 offers more space to the occupants than to the dimensional upgrade. With more focus on touch and voice control through the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the car comes equipped with BMW iDrive 9. The curved display combines a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment display into a single glass panel. Among the new features inside is a cabin-facing camera that can take photos and record videos.

On the powertrain front, the new-gen BMW X2 gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine powering the X2 xDrive28i. This is the base variant and it can churn out 237 bhp peak power and 400 Nm of maximum torque. Also, it can reach 0-96 kmph in 6.2 seconds. Powering the top variant X2 M35i xDrive is a more potent 2.0-litre engine that pumps out 307 bhp peak power and 400 Nm peak torque. This engine is capable of propelling the car to 96 kmph from a standstill position in 5.2 seconds. Both versions get a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Nissan Magnite EZ-Shift launched at ₹6.50 lakh, is the most affordable AMT SUV

Powering the Magnite EZ-Shift is a 1.0-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 71 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of 96 Nm. The new AMT transmission is a 5-speed unit. The manufacturer is claiming a fuel efficiency figure of 19.70 kmpl. When compared, the 5-speed manual gearbox has a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.35 kmpl.

The gearbox has Dual Driving mode which allows the driver to take manual control of the gearbox. Nissan is also offering a creep function which allows the car to move forward when the driver lets go off the brake. There is also an anti-stall & kick-down feature on offer. Moreover, the vehicle comes standard with Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA).

Nissan recently introduced the Nissan Magnite Kuro Special Edition, starting at ₹8.27 Lakhs ex-showroom. Derived from the Japanese word for ‘Black,’ the name Kuro captures the essence of this Special Edition. The manufacturer has extensively used black for the exterior as well as the interior for the Kuro Edition.

Charging iPhone 15 using a BMW car’s wireless charger may damage the smartphone

However, the wireless charging technology in certain BMW cars appears to be causing the Apple iPhone 15 models to permanently lose the ability to use NFC functions such as Apple Pay and Apple CarKey, reported Mac Rumors.

BMW became the first carmaker to enable its customers to use the iPhone as a fully digital car key.

The report claims that the problem is connected to the NFC chip inside the Apple iPhone 15 models. The NFC chip works on an ultra-low frequency and allows the iPhone 15 users to perform certain functions wirelessly. These include paying for a product or service using Apple Pay or unlocking their cars using Apple CarKey. However, the report claims that charging the iPhone 15 using the wireless charging docks of certain BMW cars may damage the phone’s ability to use the NFC chip permanently.

One of the BMW models that have caused such a problem for a user is the 3 Series. An iPhone 15 user has reportedly written on Reddit that the BMW 3 Series acted like an oven heater. The user reportedly claimed that barely charging the iPhone 15 using the wireless charger onboard a BMW 3 Series resulted in the smartphone becoming super hot. However, the report didn’t specify what other BMW cars are causing this issue for iPhone 15 models.

The wireless charging function in a car cabin is powered by a separate charging coil and it uses induction technology. The system works when the dock and the phone’s back are located close to one another. It is not clear, what is causing the malfunction in this case. The report has not revealed whether the iPhone 15 has some issues with the charging coil or the components used in the BMW cars are causing the problem.

The carmaker has announced that the price of this special edition Magnite to commemorate ICC World Cup Cricket will start from ₹8.27 lakh (ex-showroom). Wrapped in an all-black exterior and interior theme, Magnite Kuro will basically be the black edition of one of the most affordable SUVs in India. Kuro is a Japanese word which means Black in English. The carmaker recently unveiled the Magnite Kuro edition revealing its design and features ahead of the launch.

Nissan Motor has launched the Kuro edition of the Magnite SUV which comes with an all-black theme.

Nissan Magnite Kuro, based on the XV trim of the SUV, is available in three top-spec variants which include the XV MT, Turbo XV MT and Turbo XV CVT. The price of the Turbo XV MT is ₹9.65 lakh (ex-showroom) while the Turbo XV CVT will cost ₹10.46 lakh (ex-showroom). While there are no direct rivals for Magnite Kuro, it is likely to take on the Renault Kiger SUV’s Urban Knight special edition launched last month.

Nissan Magnite Kuro variants will come with similar glossy black exterior colour scheme. The Magnite Kuro will get blacked out grille, skid plates, bumpers, headlight accents, door handles and roof rails painted in black. The only chrome on the exterior is theNissan and Magnite badgings at the front and rear. The alloy wheels will come with red calipers offering some colour relief from black. Overall, there are no design changes in the Magnite Kuro edition.

The all-black theme continues inside the cabin as well. The dashboard, centre console, seats and upholstery has the monotone. Some of the elements inside the cabin have been given piano-black treatment for more premium look. The feature-list remains similar with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display, wireless charging among others.

There are no changes under the hood of the Magnite Kuro edition either. Nissan will continue to offer the same 1.0-litre petrol and 1.0-litre turbo petrol units that power the standard versions of the SUV. The naturally-aspirated petrol motor is capable of generating 71 bhp of power and 96 Nm of peak torque. The turbo petrol engine can churn out around 99 bhp of power and 152 Nm of peak torque.

Nissan will also launch a new variant of the Magnite SUV on October 12. The new variant will come with an AMT gearbox and will be called the EZ Shift variant.

The standard variants of the Magnite SUV is offered at a starting price of ₹6 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-spec variant of the SUV costs ₹10.86 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Motors opens bookings for Harrier and Safari facelift SUVs

Tata Motors has opened the bookings for the 2023 Harrier and Safari facelift SUVs today. The carmaker will launch both these flagship SUVs in October. One can book the Harrier facelift SUV or the 2023 Safari SUV for an amount of ₹25,000 through Tata’s online portal or at nearest dealership. The deliveries are expected to start soon after Tata Motors announces the prices. While Harrier will renew its rivalry with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos among others, the Safari will lock horns with Mahindra XUV700 in the three-row SUV space.

Tata Motors has teased both Harrier and Safari facelift SUVs on its social media handles in the run-up to the launch. Both models have undergone several changes, including design, features and powertrain. Here is a look at what all has changed.

Tata Motors will offer the Harrier facelift SUV in four trims. Like the new Nexon and Nexon EV, Tata has dropped the old nomenclature to identify the model variants. The carmaker will use Smart, Pure, Adventure and Fearless names for Harrier variants too. For Safari, the top-end variant is called Accomplished.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift: Design updates

The Harrier and Safari facelift SUVs will come with a new front face. Among the key changes are an updated grille flanked by vertically split headlight setup and LED DRLs stretched across the bonnet. The main headlamp housing is new and is now positioned vertically. At the sides, the Harrier SUV will sit on a set of redesigned alloy wheels measuring between 17 inches and 19 inches. At the rear, the Harrier gets connected light bar feature that Safari facelift has also received.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift: Interior and features

On the inside, the 2023 Harrier will offer a new 12.30-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster which look similar to the ones introduced in 2023 Nexon and Nexon EV. The dashboard will come with ambient lighting promising a more youthful vibe inside the cabin of the new Harrier. The new Harrier will also come with the new two-spoke steering wheel with a backlit panel showing Tata Motors’ logo and mounted controls that made its debut inside the Nexon and Nexon EV facelift SUVs.

Among other features, the Harrier facelift SUV will also offer powered tailgates, 10 JBL speaker sound system with Harmon AudioworX, paddle shifters, 360 degree camera and more.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift: Safety features

In terms of safety, Tata Motors will offer as many as seven airbags in Harrier and Safari. Six airbags will be offered as standard across all variants. The seventh airbag, which is meant to protect the knees of the driver, will be offered in top-spec variants. Tata will also offer level-2 ADAS technology in Harrier, as well as the new Safari, with at least 11 safety features.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift: Engine

The new Harrier and Safari SUVs will continue to be offered with Tata Motor’s trusted 2.0-litre diesel engine only. Mated to either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission options, the engine is capable of generating 167.6 bhp of power and 350 Nm of peak torque. It also offers three drive modes which include Eco, City and Sport. Besides these, Tata will also offer three traction modes – Normal, Rough and Wet.

New Lexus LS gets parallel parking, improved safety and more

Lexus LS has been soldering on its fifth-generation model at a time when several of its competitors including the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 have been adopting new-generation iterations to stay relevant. To stay in the fight, the Japanese luxury car manufacturer owned by Toyota has updated the Lexus LS sedan with a host of new features and technologies for the Japanese market. It is not clear yet, but Lexus may bring the updated LS to India as well.

The new Lexus LS sedan gets a 12.3-inch driver’s display.

While the exterior design of this car remains unchanged, Lexus has updated the LS flagship sedan with a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster that comes with new graphics. Additionally, the drive recorder of the luxury sedan now comes as a standard feature and captures footage at the front and rear using the integrated cameras. Also, the LS now comes compatible with an app that turns the user’s smartphone into a digital key allowing him or her to lock or unlock the doors or even start the car. Apart from that, the Lexus LS 500h now gets an external power supply attachment that could come in handy in case of emergencies.

While these changes make the LS sedan technologically upgraded and feature-packed, on the mechanical front, the car has gained rear-wheel steering for the AWD variant. Earlier, the four-wheel steering was available only for the rear-wheel drive models. Lexus has also said that it will install a radiator support brace on select versions to ensure body rigidity and improve steering response.

The car manufacturer claims that the updated Lexus LS will come offering better comfort to the occupants thanks to the tweaked suspension at both axles. The rubber part that supports the exhaust pipe of the car now sits at a different angle to ensure reduced vibrations.

Among other updates, the car gets an upgraded advanced drive system with support for traffic congestion at speeds of up to 40 kmph. On the safety front, the sedan gets Lexus Safety System Plus, which prevents the driver from getting dangerously close to pedestrians, bicycles, or parked vehicles. To avoid any mishap, this technology automatically steers the car and applies brakes. Another highly interesting feature introduced to the car is parallel parking, which allows the owner of the LS 500h to park the car remotely using a dedicated app.

Kia India has introduced the X Line version of the Carens. It will be sold in two variants – Petrol 7DCT and Diesel 6AT. They are priced at ₹18,94,900 and 19,44,900, respectively. Both prices are ex-showroom. This is the third X Line model that Kia has launched, after the Seltos and Sonet. The new top-end trim of Carens will get exterior as well as interior changes.

For the exterior, the Carens X Line comes with an Xclusive Matte Graphite colour scheme with a front grille finished in piano black and a radiator grille garnish in chrome. The front calipers are in silver colour and there is an X-Line logo on the tailgate.

Apart from this, on the sides, there is a new set of 16-inch dual-tone crystal cut alloy wheels with a glossy black outline. Kia Carens has garnered more than 100,000 customers so far, and with the X-Line, the company hopes to expand the sales figures significantly.

Volkswagen Virtus & Taigun get new features for the festive season, announce special offers

Volkswagen India has announced its annual festivities with Volkfest 2023 which brings a host of offers and benefits for customers, right in time for the festive period. The automaker has rolled out new features on the Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun; and has also expanded the GT Edge Collection with the launch of the new Virtus Matte Edition. The Volkfest 2023 commences on October 3 and will run until November 15, 2023.

With respect to the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus, both models now get twin electric front seats and footwell illumination on the Topline and GT Plus variants of the Dynamic and Performance Line respectively. The Land Cruiser has been one of the most famous vehicles in the world for its ruggedness. However, the pickup version of the vehicle spotted in the video has pushed that limit by surviving a severe rollover crash. The video posted on the social media platform Instagram reveals the severely damaged pickup truck making its way to a Toyota dealership service workshop with its body frame mangled. It looks like the vehicle had been stomped on by a giant monster. However, despite the bad condition of the pickup truck, it can be recognizable as a single-cab pickup version of the Land Cruiser 70 Series.

The Toyota Land Cruiser pickup truck’s cabin is crumpled and both the front section as well as the rear cargo deck area are so battered that they look like in the state of ‘point of no return.’ The video was shot in Saudi Arabia and the Land Cruiser was driving somewhere in the mountainous area of the country, where the pickup truck rolled over several times but after it came to rest was found still working.

There is a chance that the wrecked Land Cruiser pickup truck or at least a few parts of it would be saved. Thanks to the ladder-frame underpinning of the vehicle, the Toyota pickup truck is still driveable despite being in such a battered condition. If the engine, frame and suspension can be repaired, the Land Cruiser could come back to life with its original parts. However, repairing the vehicle would take a lot of time and work, considering the damage is severe.

Tata Motors car sales slump 5% in September, EVs grow 57%

Tata Motors on Sunday announced in a regulatory filing that the automaker registered a five per cent sales slump in September in the passenger vehicle segment. The homegrown automobile manufacturer claims to have sold a total of 45,317 cars last month, down five per cent from 47,864 units registered in the same month a year ago.

Tata Motors is expecting to see sales growth during the festive season thanks to the new product launches.

Domestic sales of Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle sales in September were down by six per cent at 44,809 units. In comparison, the auto manufacturer sold 47,654 units in the same month last year. Export numbers in the segment have jumped 142 per cent to 508 units last month, up from 210 units registered in September last year.

Total passenger vehicle sales in the second quarter of the current financial year too were down by three per cent to 138,939 units, as compared to 142,851 units sold between July and September 2023. Domestic sales of Tata passenger vehicles were down by 2.7 per cent to 137,950 units in the same period, as compared to 142,325 units recorded in the corresponding period of last fiscal.

While the overall passenger vehicle sales slumped marginally for the homegrown automobile manufacturer, sales of electric vehicles have recorded impressive growth. Tata Motors has registered a whopping 57 per cent growth in the electric vehicle segment with its models like the Nexon EV, Tigor EV and Tiago EV. The automaker claims to have sold 6,050 electric cars last month, up from 3,864 EVs sold in the same month a year ago. In the second quarter of the current financial year, Tata Motors sold 18,615 electric cars, up 55 per cent from 12,041 units sold in the same period a year ago.

Speaking about the sales performance, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said that the PV sales remained strong in the second quarter of this financial year thanks to the new product launches. “Passenger vehicle sales remained strong in Q2 FY24 driven by new launches and pre-festive offtakes. Tata Motors posted quarterly sales of 138,939 cars and SUVs in Q2 FY24, 2.7 per cent below our highest-ever quarter, Q2 FY23. Our EV business continues its strong momentum and has posted growth of about 55 per cent year-on-year. In Q2 FY24, we extended our innovative twin-cylinder CNG offering to Tiago, Tigor and Punch, which have been received well by the market. This quarter also saw the launch of the new generation Nexon and Nexon.ev, which have received an overwhelming market response. We had proactively reduced supplies of the outgoing models this quarter to enable a smooth transition to the new generation models,” he said further adding that with the deliveries commencing of its new products, Tata Motors is expecting higher sales volumes in the festive season and beyond.

Aston Martin DB12 supercar launched in India at ₹4.59 crore

The Aston Martin DB12 comes into India via the import route but that was obvious. The supercar market in the country remains microscopic even though the likes of Ferrari and McLaren are present through a select few models of their own. Lamborghini has been ruling the tiny territory but then again, Urus SUV is quite the showstopper across the world. As such, the entry of Aston Martin DB12, in many ways, marks a new dawn.

The DB12 has a low-slung profile which is tailormade to underline its aerodynamic credentials. While from many angles, it may appear similar to the DB11, the new Aston Martin logo leaves no doubt that this here is the absolute latest that the British manufacturer has on offer.

What’s also new is the V12 from the DB11 has been replaced with a four-litre turbo V8 engine, a move necessitated by newer emission norms in many parts of the world. Make no mistake though because performance credentials remains as solid as ever – 670 bhp and 800 Nm of torque. The suspension set up is also absolutely new and features adaptive dampers. The other highlights include 21-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tires, Electronic Rear Differential (E-diff) and three drive modes – GT, Sport and Sport+. At its most capable, the Aston Martin DB12 can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 325 kmph.
