This SUV, which was launched 34 years ago, created a ruckus, then had to be discontinued, this was the reason

New Delhi. Everyone is excited about the recently launched 2025 Tata Sierra. Do you know that this legendary SUV was India's first SUV? Some vehicles were way ahead of their time and could not attract people's attention. Tata Sierra is the best example of this. In 1991, when Indians did not know much about SUVs, Tata introduced India's first premium Indian SUV. Before the Sierra, Tata was known for its commercial vehicles; Sierra was his first passenger car. Find out why the 1991 Sierra was way ahead of its time.

New design for Indians
The design of Tata Sierra was new for Indians. Its unique design was three-door, with large rear windows curved towards the roof. The Sierra was one of the boldest looking vehicles of 1991. The ladder-on-frame chassis of the Tata Sierra was taken from the Telcoline pickup truck, which increased its size.

India's first premium SUV
Tata Sierra was the first premium SUV in the Indian market. Sierra introduced many such features, which were seen for the first time not only in this segment but in the Indian automobile industry. The Sierra's interiors had features like power windows, power steering, tilt adjustment for the steering, central air conditioning and central locking. Also, the large rear window and vintage sofa-like rear seat provided a great experience to the rear passengers. The Sierra came with two rear windshield wipers, which are not found in many modern vehicles; This was necessary given the large rear windshield.

equipped with diesel engine
While in 1991, other big companies were selling only passenger vehicles with petrol engines, the Sierra came with a diesel engine. Tata launched Sierra with a 2 liter naturally aspirated diesel engine, which gave 63 HP power and 120 Nm torque. Rear-wheel drive was standard on the Sierra and 4×4 was optional. The 4×4 powertrain layout with the diesel engine was a revolutionary feature in the 90s. Tata provided the Sierra with a unique dog-leg 5-speed gearbox, with first gear placed on the lower-left instead of the traditional H-pattern.

Turbocharged engine launched in 1997
Later in 1997, Tata launched a turbocharged version of the Sierra, which produced 89 hp power and 190 Nm torque. This version came with an H-pattern gearbox, which further improved the driving experience of the Sierra. The three-door design of the Tata Sierra in 1991 was not very useful for Indian families. Moreover, its starting price was Rs 5 lakh (on-road Mumbai), which reached Rs 8 lakh (on-road Mumbai) in the late 90s. In its initial years, Tata Sierra had to compete with popular Maruti vehicles like Maruti 800, Omni and Gypsy. Maruti cars were cheaper and looked more practical according to the Indian budget. Later Mahindra also launched Armada, which had the same engine as Sierra but was priced lower. In 2002, Mahindra Scorpio gave tough competition to Sierra.

Had to shut down in 2003
The Tata Sierra was in the market from 1991 to 2003; Only 667 units were sold in 1991 and sales reached 3,910 units in 1994–95. After this there was a decline in sales. Due to low sales, Tata shifted its focus to other vehicles. This was the reason why this revolutionary Indian SUV remained out of the public eye.

tata punch
Punch is one of the most affordable and best selling SUVs of Tata. In November 2025, Tata sold 18,753 units of Punch, making it fourth in the best-seller list. The CNG variant adds to its charm, allowing mileage-seeking buyers to buy a sporty looking hatchback without any compromise. Now you might be wondering, which car is number one in this list? Is that also from Maruti?

Maruti Dezire
Dezire secured the second position in the list of best-selling cars in India with sales of 21,082 units in November 2025. This compact sedan consistently remains in the best-selling lists because it is economical and reliable. But the most important thing is that now it is safer than before. Earlier, Maruti had to face criticism for safety, but now the company has introduced its safest car, so that more Indian buyers can trust Maruti. Dzire has always been a great sedan with good features, excellent mileage and low running costs. But now by adding more features and making the car safer, Maruti has further strengthened its place in the best-seller list. For around Rs 9.62 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), you will get the ZXI variant, which has good features. If you want to get the top-spec variant, then its price is around Rs 10.41 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). And to be honest, this is still a bargain that gives you full value for money.

If you want to buy a car, then hurry up, the cars of this company are going to become expensive from January 1.

New Delhi. Mercedes-Benz has announced an increase of up to 2 percent in the prices of all its model ranges. The new prices of these models will be applicable from January 1, 2026. The company has taken this step due to the current economic conditions affecting the luxury car market. The automaker cited “continued volatility, rising input costs and persistent logistics challenges” as the reasons for the price increase.

Effect of Euro-INR exchange
Additionally, the company has claimed that the Euro-INR exchange rate will remain above Rs 100 throughout 2025, which is higher than the historical average. This impacts the cost of imported components used in local assembly and completely built units (CBUs). Due to this the total operational cost of the company has increased. The brand further said that Mercedes-Benz India has largely managed these increases through its localization strategy, but selective adjustments have become necessary to keep the business sustainable.

rising input costs
Commenting on the issue, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “Currency challenges have persisted longer than we expected this year, with the euro consistently trading above Rs 100. This prolonged volatility impacts every part of our operations, be it imported components or fully fledged units for local production. Additionally, due to rising input costs, logistics expenses and inflation, our “The total operational costs have increased significantly.”

He further said, “Due to the continuous reduction in repo rate by RBI, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services is able to pass this benefit to the customers, due to which the impact of increase in prices is reduced to a great extent.” The amount of price change will vary depending on the model. Especially in models which are more dependent on imports, more changes will be seen. Locally produced vehicles benefit from the company's Chakan facility. This facility is part of the global production network of Mercedes-Benz.

company portfolio
The models in the company's portfolio in India include the A-Class, C-Class, E-Class Long Wheelbase, S-Class and the Mercedes-Maybach S 580. No need of petrol, no hassle of charging! In which car did Union Minister Prahlad Joshi reach Parliament? Know complete details

Last Updated:

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi reached Parliament in a hydrogen fuel powered Toyota Mirai car, which was launched under the National Green Hydrogen Mission and gives zero emissions. This car is better than petrol cars in many respects and in terms of refueling it is even better than EV because it takes only 5-7 minutes to refill and it comes with zero noise and zero emissions.

New Delhi. Union Minister Prahlad Joshi reached Parliament on Thursday driving a hydrogen-powered car and attracted everyone's attention. The question in everyone's mind was which car was this? If you also have this question in your mind, then let us tell you that this car was a hydrogen fuel powered Toyota Mirai. Talking to the media, he said that an MoU has been signed between Toyota Kirloskar and National Institute of Solar Energy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Green Hydrogen Mission.

Mirai means 'future'
He said, “This car is a hydrogen car. National Green Hydrogen Mission was started in India under the leadership of PM Modi. Today MoU has been signed between Toyota Kirloskar and our National Institute of Solar Energy.” Apart from this, talking about this hydrogen-powered vehicle, which releases only water steam, he told that its name is 'Mirai', which means 'future'.

hydrogen fuel cell tech
This car works on hydrogen fuel cell tech which makes it a better option than traditional ICE engine cars. With this technology, this car achieves zero emissions i.e. it is completely eco-friendly.

How does fuel cell technology work?

  • Hydrogen Intake: Hydrogen gas is taken from pressurized tanks.
  • Fuel cell reaction: Inside the fuel cell stack, hydrogen combines with oxygen in the air.
  • Power Production: This process produces electricity, which is used to run an electric motor and charge a small battery.
  • Zero Emission: Its only by-product is pure water vapor.

Features and Performance

  • Powertrain: Rear electric motor (about 182 horsepower).
  • Range: Excellent range according to the EPA, often over 400 miles (e.g. 402 miles for the XLE).
  • Refueling: It takes about 5 minutes to completely fill the tank.
  • Driving Experience: Smooth, quiet and like a premium sedan or battery EV, with good acceleration.
  • Technology: Comes with advanced driver-assistance systems (like Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, Lane Tracing Assist).

Why is petrol better than cars?
This car is better than petrol cars in many respects. In terms of refueling, it is even better than EV because it takes only 5-7 minutes to refill it. This means that like petrol cars, it can be refueled quickly. These days, pollution has become a big problem across the country. In such a situation, this car with zero emissions is a great option.

VinFast Overtakes Tesla In November Sales: VinFast overtook Tesla by selling 291 electric vehicles in India in November 2025, while Tata Motors remained the market leader with 6153 units. VF6 and VF7 are continuously attracting buyers due to their low prices. In the coming time, the company is also going to bring some new models in India.

New Delhi. Vietnam's electric vehicle manufacturer Vinfast has registered a tremendous jump in retail sales in India in November 2025 and has left Tesla behind by a huge margin. According to the latest data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the total sales of both the brands are still low, but this month's figures show how fast VinFast has gained hold in the Indian market after its entry. VinFast had entered India after Tesla and managed to make its place among the buyers in a short time.

november sale
According to FADA's retail report, Vinfast sold 291 electric vehicles in November, while Tesla sold only 48 units. This performance is a big leap for the Vietnamese company, which had sold 131 units in October. With over 122% month-on-month sales growth, VinFast has become one of the most talked-about new brands in the country's fast-growing electric mobility segment.

48 units of Tesla sold
At the same time, Tesla's growth remained slow. Its sales increased from 40 units in October to 48 units in November, i.e. an increase of 20 percent month-on-month. Although the brand identity of the American company is strong in India, the pace of its retail sales has been slow till now. Despite this advance of VinFast, Tata Motors maintained its dominance in the electric vehicle market. The domestic company sold 6,153 electric vehicles in November, further strengthening its market leadership. Tata's dealerships across the country and its large range of electric vehicles are the reasons for its strength.

Why is Vinfast growing?
Industry experts believe that VinFast's price and product strategy have been the key factors behind its strong sales. VinFast began local assembly in India in September and launched two models—VF6 and VF7—which were priced at Rs 16.49 lakh and Rs 20.89 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. The company's decision to assemble the vehicles locally kept prices competitive and placed both models in the high-demand mass EV segment.

tesla price
At the same time, Tesla's offering in India is limited only to the fully imported Model Y, whose starting price is Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Due to its premium positioning and higher price, it attracts fewer customers than Vinfast's more accessible models.

Apart from this, the Seltos comes with smaller 18-inch rims, while the Sierra gets larger 19-inch rims. However, the outside rearview mirror (ORVM) in Kia is synchronized with the memory function of the driver's seat. Whereas in Sierra, memory function is available only for the driver seat.

The Sierra's instrumentation panel is slightly smaller, at 10.25-inches. The new Seltos also has a head-up display (HUD), which is available in the Sierra only in its lower trims. Kia gets more adjustment settings for the driver's seat, but it does not have an air purifier and a cooled glove box. Talking about the audio system, the Sierra's system, at least on paper, is better with more speakers.

Although both have a long list of features, the Sierra gets a slight advantage with a passenger display, more speakers, a cooled glove box and an air purifier, which makes it look more attractive. The Seltos has more seat adjustment, but even the Sierra doesn't completely miss it, which doesn't make much of a difference in everyday use. So, until the prices are revealed, the Sierra has a slight edge over the Seltos on paper.

The hero has arrived and dominated! Ola also got washed away, Vida brand sold 1 lakh electric scooters

The hero has arrived and dominated! Ola also got washed away, Vida brand sold 1 lakh electric scooters

New Delhi. For the first time since entering the electric two-wheeler market three years ago, Hero MotorCorp's Vida brand has crossed the sales mark of 1 lakh units in a calendar year. According to the latest retail sales data available on the Vahan portal, a total of 1,00,383 Vida e-scooters were delivered to customers between January 1 and December 5. Moreover, the total sales of Vida e-scooter have crossed 1.50 lakh units since the brand launch in October 2022.

8% market share
Hero's electric sales journey so far: Currently, Vida has 8 percent market share. 2025 got off to a slow start, with only 1,626 units sold in January. But monthly sales remained more than 6,000 units for four consecutive months from March to June. In July, sales crossed 10,000 units for the first time (10,548 units), and Vida maintained this pace for the next five months.

Highest Monthly Sale
In October 2025, Vida recorded its highest monthly sales in the domestic market with 16,017 units. This impressive performance was also reflected in VIDA's manufacturers rankings: from seventh in January to sixth in February and fifth in March, which it maintained through October. Last month, Vida secured the fourth position, leaving behind Ola Electric.

Battery-as-a-Service Model
VX2 drives Vida's growth, benefiting from low price and battery-as-a-service model and the launch of the family-centric VX2 in July 2025. The company also has a sporty looking V2 in its portfolio. The VX2 and V2 are almost identical in terms of battery, motor and other mechanical parts, but there are two main differences.

left Ola behind
First, the design of VX2 is similar to the traditional family scooters sold in India. Second and most importantly, its purchase price is already quite aggressive, but when purchased through the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, this price becomes even lower. Due to this, Vida's growth accelerated in the second half of the year and in terms of monthly sales, the company easily left behind the continuously falling Ola Electric.
