Toyota Land Cruiser FJ Mini Fortuner: Toyota introduced the Land Cruiser FJ at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, which may come to India as Mini Fortuner. It has a 2.7-litre 2TR-FE engine and IMV platform. There is a lot of excitement about this car in India. However, no official statement or announcement has yet come from the company regarding its India launch.

New Delhi. Toyota finally unveiled the Land Cruiser FJ (2025 Land Cruiser FJ) at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. The new FJ model is a spiritual predecessor to the prestigious FJ40, but with modern appeal and a more affordable size. The big question now is whether Toyota will bring this new baby Land Cruiser to India – a market that has recently shown tremendous demand for lifestyle SUVs. In India it is also being called Mini Fortuner.

Toyota wants the FJ to appeal to consumers who value reliability, practicality and go-anywhere capability.

Design is another area where Toyota has deliberately paid attention to nostalgia. Thick straight lines make the boxy greenhouse, round elements on the face instantly recognizable. What's even more interesting is that it has a removable bumper, wide cladding, exposed hardware and plenty of scope for bolt-on accessories for easy swapping or repairs.

Tata Motors has formulated an aggressive production strategy to strengthen its presence in the passenger vehicle (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) markets, aiming to achieve 18-20% market share by 2030. The company plans to launch several new models in different segments including urban compact EVs, midsize family cars, lifestyle SUVs and premium electric SUVs.

CNG and Hybrid
Focus on CNG and hybrid for SUVs over 4-metre long Apart from this, the domestic automaker is also planning to enter the CNG and hybrid vehicle segment, in which these powertrain options will be offered for SUVs over 4-metre in length. Tata's current product portfolio includes three such SUVs – Curvv, Harrier and Safari, as well as the upcoming Sierra.

Speaking to an online media publication, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said that the company may consider expanding its CNG product lineup in the 4.3 meter segment if the demand is there. The CNG setup could be offered with a turbo-petrol engine, as is the configuration available on the Nexon CNG.

Inspired by CAFÉ 3 Standard
This push towards CNG expansion and hybrid powertrain adoption inspired by the upcoming CAFÉ 3 standard comes in view of the stricter CAFÉ 3 emission norms, which will come into effect from 2027. In FY2025, CNG and hybrid vehicle segments see a growth of 35% and 15.40% respectively. Sierra and Harrier/Safari petrol will be launched soon Tata Motors will launch the much-awaited Sierra midsize SUV on November 25, 2025. At launch, the SUV will be offered only with ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) powertrains, which will include 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel options. Tata Sierra EV will arrive in early 2026.

Harrier and Safari
Tata Harrier and Safari petrol versions are scheduled to be launched on December 9, 2025. Both the SUVs will be powered by Tata's new 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine, which will produce 170PS of power. Transmission options will include both manual and automatic units.

In terms of safety, the 2025 Tata Sierra includes 6 airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitoring system and level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).

Although the exact reasons for the better performance of the Victoris are yet to be ascertained, the brand's strategy of making it available at arena dealerships seems to be succeeding, making the SUV affordable for a wider range of buyers.

Additionally, the starting price of Maruti Suzuki Victoris is Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Grand Vitara is priced at Rs 10.77 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a better option, especially when the feature package is taken into account. However, both SUVs have the same powertrain, which includes petrol, CNG and strong hybrid powertrain options.

Despite the current success of Victoris, competition in this segment remains stiff. Hyundai Creta continues to maintain its dominance in this segment. The South Korean SUV sold 18,381 units in October 2025, while other rivals like the Kia Seltos and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrider were left far behind, with 7,130 units and 11,55 units sold respectively.

Waiting for Grand Vitara Electric
Maruti has not yet entered the electric car segment. The company's first electric car will be Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The ICE model of this car is already very popular in the Indian market. This is why the company wants to capitalize on its popularity. Updates about this car keep coming out continuously. After launch, it will compete with Nexon and Windsor EV. Both these SUVs remain India's best selling electric cars. Tata had started making inroads in this segment long ago. For this reason, the company has the largest product portfolio in terms of EV. After the arrival of Maruti, competition in this segment is going to intensify further.

Kia Seltos Hybrid – What to Expect? The hybrid system can be offered with 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine. The same petrol-hybrid powertrain will also power the upcoming Kia 7-seater SUV. The new Kia Seltos Hybrid can be introduced in global markets first, after which it will be launched in India. An e-AWD system may also be part of the package, although it will not be included in the India-spec version.
