A seven-seat MPV with a small petrol engine has one question hanging over it: what happens when all seven seats are occupied? The Renault Triber has faced that question for years. Now, a test car spotted in Pune has added a twist. It carries both a Turbo badge and a CNG sticker, pointing towards a Renault Triber Turbo-CNG version.
The Triber currently uses a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. It makes around 71-72hp and 96Nm. That is enough for city use, but passengers and luggage can make highway driving harder.
Turbo engine could change the drive
The new version is expected to use Renault’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. In the Kiger, this motor makes about 100hp and 160Nm. Similar figures are expected for the Triber.
The higher torque should help with overtaking, slopes and full-load driving. On CNG, the output is expected to be lower, although Renault has not shared the final figures.
CNG without losing the boot
The CNG test car was spotted with a CNG sticker on the rear glass and a Turbo badge on the tailgate. Renault is expected to use a twin-cylinder layout under the boot floor. This is useful for a three-row MPV because a large tank taking up the luggage area would reduce one of the Triber’s main advantages.
The factory-fitted system would also be different from an aftermarket CNG kit. Renault has not confirmed the variant yet, but the test car suggests that development is well advanced and ARAI testing or homologation could be part of the current process.
Why the new platform matters
Renault’s Renault Group Entry Platform, or RGEP, is important here. The older CMF-A architecture had tight packaging around the engine bay. The new platform gives Renault more room for the turbo motor and underbody CNG hardware.
The Triber should also keep its practical cabin and equipment. Expected features include:
- 8-inch touchscreen
- Automatic climate control
- Rain-sensing wipers
- Automatic headlamps
- Six airbags
- ABS with EBD
- Electronic stability control
- TPMS
The cabin’s flexible seven-seat layout should continue as well.
Launch and price
The Triber Turbo is expected to launch in September 2026. The Turbo-CNG version could follow as part of the same update. The current Triber starts at around Rs 5.81 lakh, ex-showroom. A turbo-CNG model will cost more, but keeping it below Rs 10 lakh would make the package interesting.
