Honda has unveiled two new EV concept models at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 on January 7. The Honda 0 Series electric vehicle concepts showcased at the event offer two body types – an SUV and a saloon. The final version of these two EV concepts will go into production in the United States later this year and will be launched in global markets next year. The Japanese auto giant has also showcased its new ASIMO operating system for its vehicles which will be used for Honda 0 Series models.
The Honda 0 Series electric vehicles will use a newly developed dedicated EV platform. This is different from the Honda Prologue electric car which uses the Ultium platform developed by General Motors. The new 0 Series electric cars will be part of Honda's 30 new electric cars that the carmaker plans to launch in global markets by the end of this decade.
Honda has not given much information about the powertrain and performance specifications of these two electric cars. However, the Honda 0 series electric vehicles are expected to be equipped with both single and dual electric motor setups. While the single-motor EV is likely to produce 241 bhp power, the dual-motor version could churn out up to 482 bhp power. Honda is also expected to offer EVs with four-wheel drive technology.

It has been known for a long time that a Lamborghini electric supercar is coming. But while the Italians had previously confirmed an unveiling in 2028, the company's top boss has now said the showcase has now been pushed back a year. The Lamborghini Lanzador Concept EV version was previously showcased in 2023 and the production version will be based on it.
The first-ever Lamborghini EV or electric vehicle is one of the most anticipated unveilings of the decade and while purists continue to argue against the idea, the march of battery-powered mobility options has included supercars as well. It was never about 'if' but 'when' and when Lamborghini confirmed plans to go electric, there was a lot of excitement in the automotive world about the decision. However according to Reuters, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has said that unveiling plans have been moved to 2029.
Also Read: With Lanzador EV, Lamborghini is prioritizing crossovers over sedans
Winkelmann explained that the reason for pushing back the unveiling timeline is to ensure that the market is ready for a Lamborghini EV. He reportedly said, “We don't think 2029 will be too late for electric cars. We don't think, in our segment, the market will be ready in 2025 or 2026.”
Lamborghini is famous for building some of the most powerful sports cars in the world since the 1960s. But when it launched its first SUV, skeptics suspected a change in strategy. But the Lamborghini Urus has been a big hit, propelling the Italian supercar maker to record sales and profits. There is now a Lamborghini Urus Hybrid as well as a Lamborghini Temerario which is powered by a V8 twin-turbo engine with three electric motors. The Lamborghini Revuelto plug-in hybrid has also been a hot favorite since its launch in 2023.
While Lamborghini has underlined its commitment to hybrid technology, there are also plans to go fully electric. And Lanzador is a march towards this ultimate objective.
The Lamborghini Lanzadore Concept showcased last year is a grand tourer with a 2+2 seating arrangement. It has a high-power electric motor on each axle which means it will have permanent all-wheel drive. The EV will feature e-torque vectoring on the rear axle Lamborghini says the maximum power output will be over one megawatt which is around 1,340 bhp. It has also been confirmed that the Lanzador will come with Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) which is essentially a driving dynamics control system. There will be multiple sensors and actuators that will be integrated into the system that ensures precise driving behavior.

The Porsche Taycan is one of the most interesting electric luxury cars in India. Porsche India has issued a voluntary recall for the Taycan EV in the country. More than 176 units of the Porsche Taycan electric sedan have been recalled by the German performance carmaker due to a possible defect in the battery cells or modules.
Porsche Taycan EVs manufactured between October 21, 2019 and March 4, 2024 are the potentially affected electric cars that the auto company has recalled. Porsche has discovered that Taycan EVs produced in the above period may have a faulty battery module supplier system. This fault may result in a short circuit within the battery module and may even result in a fire in the electric vehicle following thermal throttling.

The latest recall for the Porsche Taycan EV comes as part of a larger recall for the electric car spanning global markets. Globally, more than 27,500 units of the Porsche Taycan EV have been recalled in October, which were built between the above periods. A recall was issued in the international market in October 2024. The recall was issued in conjunction with sister brands' Audi's recall involving the Audi e-tron GT and Audi RS e-tron GT models, produced from 2022 to 2024. Audi electric cars have been recalled due to a battery problem that could result in fire.
This is not the first time that the Porsche Taycan EV has faced problems. Earlier, in June this year, the carmaker had recalled every single Taycan globally due to possible brake failure. The automaker said the affected Taycan EV will display a warning light on the dashboard. The carmaker did not disclose the exact number of Taycan EVs affected by the recall at the time, but the recall affected more than 150,000 units of the EV worldwide. The automaker said there was an issue related to the front brake hoses, with a small number of Taycan EVs developing cracks that could cause brake fluid to leak, reducing brake pressure and system effectiveness.

The rise and proliferation of electric vehicles (EVs) is inevitable and the popularity of such models is partly being driven by existing owners who are unwilling to go back to conventional vehicles powered mostly by engines. This is the conclusion of a global survey covering nearly 23,000 EV owners in 18 countries, including India.
Titled the Global EV Driver Survey 2024 and conducted by a grassroots non-profit network of 64 national electric vehicle driver associations called the Global EV Alliance, the survey found that 97 percent of respondents said they were 'very satisfied' with their EV . When asked if they would have to replace their existing EV one day, 92 percent said they would do so with another EV and four percent said it would be a plug-in hybrid. Only one percent said their next car would be a petrol or diesel-powered model.
Also read: Major challenges keeping Indian buyers away from EVs
The survey also focused on the driving factors that motivated respondents to make their purchases. A large majority said that the low operating costs of EVs were a major reason for purchasing an EV, while a large number also highlighted that such vehicles are better for the environment. Other factors mentioned were interest in the new technology and the incentives offered.
When asked what is the primary location for charging an EV, 72 percent of those surveyed said they use their home-charging point. Another 13 percent said they use fast chargers while seven percent said they use public parking spaces with charging options. Another seven percent said they use charging points at their work places.
The survey also focused on the real-time challenges of owning and driving an EV. While most said they don't see any real challenges, issues like poor coverage of fast-charging points and slow charging times were still highlighted by many others. Many people also cited range and poor charger.
Among respondents across all 18 countries, the number of people acknowledging range-related concerns was highest in India, followed by Brazil, Costa Rica and Portugal. People in Germany and Switzerland were least concerned about range.
The survey covered EV owners in: Austria, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

If you have an electric vehicle, you should be aware of the risks that can result in an EV fire. Here are some simple but useful tips that you must follow
,
Electric vehicles catching fire is nothing new and the latest addition to the list of EV fires is the Bajaj Chetak incident that took place in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra last week. A Bajaj Chetak electric scooter was found spewing smoke, possibly caused by a fire in the EV's battery pack. Bajaj Auto has started investigating the matter. The incident has reignited concerns about fire hazards associated with electric vehicles.
For decades, internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicles running on combustible fuels such as petrol and diesel have been known to be vulnerable to fire incidents. However, with the rapid rise of electric vehicles over the past few years, the vulnerabilities of electric vehicles to fire incidents have come to light. Yes, electric vehicles are not immune from fire incidents, even if they do not run on petrol or diesel.

Fires in electric vehicles are not common, but they attract a lot of attention when they do happen. The main cause of EV fires is the high energy concentration in the battery pack, high voltage battery packs hold a lot of energy in a small area. If the battery pack is impacted, it can cause a short circuit inside, triggering a chain of events called thermal runaway, which results in the battery pack generating heat beyond its capacity, causing a fire. About 95 percent of electric vehicle battery fires are classified as ignition fires, while the remaining five percent result from vapor cloud explosions.
Various factors, such as physical damage due to accidents, manufacturing defects, battery failure, repair, arson, external fire, or overheating, can result in electric vehicle battery fire.
If you have an electric vehicle, you should be aware of the risks that can result in an EV fire. Here are some simple but useful tips that you should follow to prevent your electric vehicle from catching fire.
It is not advisable to plug in an electric vehicle for charging immediately after finishing a trip, as lithium-ion cells for EVs are still hot when returned from the trip. After you finish your trip, make sure to let the battery cool down a bit before putting it back to charge. This can effectively cool the battery pack of the electric vehicle and protect the EV from fire.
Avoiding exposure to heat is a highly effective way to reduce the risk of fire in an electric vehicle. Prolonged exposure to the sun can be harmful to electric vehicles, as the heat from the sun's rays can trigger exothermic reactions and increase the heat inside the electric vehicle. Therefore, it is always advisable to avoid parking the EV in direct sunlight. If covered parking is not available, at least try to find shade.
While charging, the lithium-ion battery pack in an electric vehicle heats up. Charging an EV in humid weather conditions can cause problems as it results in the formation of air and swelling of some of the battery cells. Therefore, it is recommended to charge the EV in a shady place and the charging area should have proper ventilation.
A driver's driving habits impact not only fuel efficiency but also the health of the vehicle. Careless driving on rough terrain can have a negative impact on the battery pack. Additionally, driving over nails, sharp stones, or other sharp objects may damage the battery pack. Just because you have a cool electric SUV doesn't mean you can take it offroading.
Using the correct charger is an important factor in ensuring the thermal safety of an electric vehicle. Buying an EV charger from the aftermarket can be disastrous as it may not be compatible and safe enough to work with your electric vehicle. Therefore, it is always recommended to use the genuine charger provided by the OEM.
The battery pack is the most important component of an electric vehicle. Additionally, most fires in EVs originate from batteries. Experts recommend that the charge level of an EV battery should be between 20 to 80 percent. Make sure that the battery charge level does not drain completely as well as it is overcharged.

As electric vehicles (EVs) gain popularity, long distance travel is becoming increasingly possible as the number of fast charging stations continues to increase. However, before setting out on an important trip, it is important to ensure that your EV is in optimal condition. This will reduce the chances of you getting stuck because your vehicle broke down for some reason. Here are five key mechanical checks that you can easily perform to reduce the chances of breakdown:
Charge Capacity: Make sure that your battery is fully charged before the journey and that it can maintain the required range and operate at fuel efficiency.
Cell balancing: An electric vehicle usually automatically balances its cells during the end of its charging process. So, all you need to do is charge your vehicle up to 100 percent and the cells should balance automatically. This will help improve the performance and longevity of the battery pack and cells.

Tread depth: Tires are one of the most important parts of a vehicle as they are the only thing that comes in contact between the vehicle and the road. Adequate depth is essential for optimal grip, especially on wet or slippery roads. So, make sure the tires have enough thread. Tires with uneven tread, bulges, blisters or sidewall damage should also be replaced.
Tire Pressure: Maintain recommended tire pressure to improve efficiency and handling.
Tire Alignment and Balancing: Proper alignment and balancing can have a significant impact on tire wear, fuel efficiency and the overall driving experience. It also helps reduce driver fatigue while driving in a straight line as the driver does not need to constantly apply force to keep the vehicle in a straight line.
Brake pad thickness: Ensure adequate brake pad material to avoid sudden brake failure.
Brake fluid level: Check the brake fluid level and quality. If it is not at the optimum level it should be topped up.
Regenerative Braking System: Verify the functionality of the regenerative braking system, which helps save energy and reduces brake wear. It also helps in recharging the battery when going downhill and applying brakes. Regenerative braking usually works when the battery is below 80 percent.

Coolant Level: Check coolant level in the electric motor and battery cooling systems. The purpose of the coolant is to ensure that the battery and electric motor do not overheat.
Port condition: Check the charging port for any damage, corrosion or loose connections.
Cable Functionality: Test the charging cable to ensure that it is functioning properly and can provide the required charging speed.
By diligently performing these essential checks before a long EV trip, you can significantly enhance your driving experience, reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns and enjoy a safe and comfortable trip.
