As the pollution situation worsens across North India, we explain the role of car air purifiers, the filters they use and the key things buyers should know.

The smog season in Delhi-NCR often takes the AQI level to the red. For many travelers, wearing a mask and setting up a home purifier has become routine. But when you spend time in a car, often in traffic, near construction dust and exhaust fumes, the cabin may be exposed to fine particulate matter (PM2.5), exhaust gases, dust or allergens.
Regular cabin air filters help but often rely on simple paper or foam media, which can only trap larger dust or pollen. High-grade filtration like HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) in a dedicated car air purifier can capture very fine particles and reduce exposure to harmful pollutants during a drive.
How do they work and what to check
A “real” car air purifier typically combines these elements:
– A pre-filter (to catch larger dust and debris)
– A HEPA (or HEPA-grade) filter to trap fine particulate matter (PM2.5, smoke, pollen, fine dust)
– Often, an activated-carbon layer is used to absorb odors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or exhaust gases.
Effectiveness largely depends on the quality of the filter and the “clean air delivery rate” (CADR), which is a measure of how much air the purifier processes per minute or hour. In a closed cabin, a compact purifier can make a more visible difference than in a large living room, as the air volume is smaller and limited.
Additionally, using the vehicle's air conditioning or ventilation system in “recirculation” mode helps, as this reduces the flow of polluted outside air while the purifier operates.

what the research shows
Studies on vehicle-cabin air quality show that air purifiers and proper filtration can reduce exposure substantially. Also, limitations exist: if the ride is very short, or if windows/doors are opened frequently, the purifier may not have enough time to meaningfully reduce pollution levels.
Cabin filters, even high-grade ones, are less effective at removing certain gases, such as carbon monoxide or some volatile organic compounds (VOCs), unless the purifier includes a good activated-carbon stage and the design accounts for sealing and air circulation.

Should you get one for the Delhi-NCR drive?
Given the serious air-quality problems in Delhi and surrounding North Indian areas, a good quality car purifier can be a worthwhile add-on, especially if:
– Your daily commute involves long periods of traffic, or
– You often travel when pollution is at its peak, or
– You or your passengers are sensitive to dust, allergies or respiratory problems.
Car-air purifiers, when selected and used correctly, provide meaningful protection against PM2.5, dust, smoke and allergens inside the vehicle cabin. In high pollution environments like Delhi-NCR during winter, they can reduce the risk associated with commuting to some extent. But they are not a silver bullet. Realizing their benefits require effective filtration, good air flow, disciplined use (windows closed, recirculation mode) and regular maintenance.

More than 2,000 charging points To charge the E Vitara, Maruti Suzuki has installed more than 2,000 charging points in more than 1,100 cities of the country. Additionally, the company has partnered with 13 charging point operators (CPOs) to provide customers with an even larger charging network. Maruti aims to create a network of more than 1 lakh charging points in collaboration with its dealers and CPOs by 2030. The company claims that a charger will be available every 5-10 kilometers, which can be accessed through the 'E for Me' app. Apart from this, Maruti has more than 1,500 EV-ready workshops, where service support and doorstep service will also be provided.

Maruti Suzuki E Vitara will have two battery pack options of 49kWh and 61kWh, both of which will come with front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup. The base trim Delta will get a 49kWh battery pack, while the Zeta and Alpha trims will get a larger battery pack. The wait is over! Maruti E Vitara launched in India, range of 543 km
New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki has announced that its upcoming E Vitara electric SUV can go from Delhi to Chandigarh on a single charge. ARAI certified range of 543 km has been given for its large battery pack. The company says that its nationwide network is already ready for electric vehicles, in which showrooms and service centers have been upgraded and more than 1,50,000 staff have been trained to operate electric vehicles. The e Vitara will be available with battery-as-a-service programs and subscription plans, as well as assured buyback plans.
Export to more than 100 countries The e Vitara has been introduced as a global electric SUV, which is made in India and is being exported to more than 100 countries. Exports began on September 1 from Pipavav Port in Gujarat, with more than 2,900 units being shipped to 12 major European markets in the month of August itself, including UK, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria and Belgium.
Dimensions The length of this SUV is 4,275 mm, width is 1,800 mm and height is 1,640 mm, while its wheelbase is 2,700 mm. It has a 3-in-1 electric drive system, in which the motor, inverter and transmission are integrated together. BYD India has announced that prices of the Celion 7 electric SUV will increase from January 1, 2026. The company said customers who book vehicles on or before December 31, 2025, will continue to get the existing ex-showroom prices, effectively creating a year-end window before the revised rates come into effect.
The Sealion 7 is currently offered in two variants and is priced as follows:

BYD Sealion 7: 2,000 units have already been sold
Sealion 7 was first shown to the public at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Since then, BYD reports that the model has surpassed 2,000 units in cumulative sales. The company attributes this initial traction to growing interest in premium EVs offering long range and high performance.

Three companies each prepared to compete with the lone Sierra!
New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch its first electric SUV in India, the e Vitara today. Its production has started at the company's Gujarat plant and the initial units are also being exported to international markets. Its design is inspired by its ICE variant and it has been provided with electric powertrain, which will be available in both FWD and AWD configurations, to meet the different needs of the customers. This launch is a big milestone for Maruti Suzuki, as the company is entering the electric SUV segment for the first time.
two battery packs Maruti Suzuki E Vitara will come with two battery pack options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The smaller battery pack will power a single-motor setup that will drive the front wheels, while the larger battery pack will support a dual-motor configuration that will provide all-wheel drive, which Suzuki has named AllGrip-E. Due to this flexibility, customers can choose efficiency or performance as per their need, with the larger battery variant being considered the premium option in the lineup.
Range As per the WLTP test cycle, the e-Vitrara with 61 kWh battery and front-wheel drive offers the longest range, which is 428 km, followed by the all-wheel drive variant at 394 km. The base 49 kWh model gives a range of 344 km. The front-wheel drive e-Vitra is expected to be launched in India first with a larger battery pack, giving a range of over 500 km as per ARAI rating, while the dual-motor variant will arrive later.
Design Design highlights of the e-Vitara include three-point matrix LED DRLs integrated with the headlights, massive bumpers with piano-black finish, and 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels with a blacked out look. Its 3D profile and three-point matrix tail lamps complete its styling, which is very similar to the ICE Vitara, but with modern EV touches.
interior In the interior, E Vitara has ventilated front seats, 10-way power driver seat and flexible rear seating. Maruti Suzuki will take its first big step into India's electric SUV sector with the launch of the e-Vitara tomorrow. Maruti Suzuki E Vitara 2025 has been in the news since its first appearance at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. This launch marks the beginning of the company's long-planned EV rollout.
Launch day and price outlook
The new electric SUV will be introduced on December 2, with a price expected to be around 17-22 lakh (ex-showroom). If Maruti keeps it in this bracket, the e-Vitara will enter the same price zone as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curve EV, Mahindra BE6 and MG Windsor EV. Fast-charging capability via both AC and DC systems is expected to be standard across all variants.

Battery pack, performance and range
Maruti's first EV is expected to come with two battery options, aimed to cater to different buyer needs:
49 kWh pack – positioned as a more affordable and city-friendly option
61 kWh pack – estimated to provide a useful driving range of up to 500 km
Power figures are likely to fall between 142 bhp and 172 bhp, with torque estimated to be around 192.5 Nm. Initial versions are expected to run on front-wheel drive, while an all-wheel-drive configuration is planned for a later stage.

While the e-Vitara carries forward the familiar stance associated with the Vitara nameplate, Maruti has given it a more modern, EV-centric identity. Blacked-out 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels add to its efficiency-focused design, while the sculptural 3D bodywork and matching matrix-style tail lamps give the SUV a sharper, more contemporary appearance. The overall styling blends traditional SUV proportions with the futuristic elements that are becoming characteristic of the electric segment.

Cabin layout, comfort and technology
On the inside, the e-Vitara is expected to offer a more upscale experience than any current Maruti SUV. Key features expected to be introduced include:

Wireless smartphone connectivity and an Infinity audio system

Kia has started the official countdown for one of its most important global launches, the new second-generation Kia Seltos. The company has shared the first teaser image on its social media channels, which shows a glimpse of the updated design of the SUV. Its world premiere is going to happen on 10th December. These teasers make it clear that what was revealed in the recent spy shots is correct: the 2026 Seltos will be bigger, sharper and more premium than before.
boulder design The teaser images reveal several key styling elements, such as redesigned LED headlights with Kia's new signature lights, a more sculpted bonnet and a cleaner, more upright body profile. The tail-lamp cluster has a new geometric layout and connected light bar, while the bumpers look more muscular than before. Roof rails, square wheel arches and new alloy wheels point towards the strong stance of the SUV. The entire vehicle has not been revealed in the teaser, but it is clear that its design is more mature and global than the current generation. This also matches with the spy shots released in India and Korea, which showed the new Seltos with flat body panels, a boxy silhouette and new detailing at the front and rear.
Large dimensions and spacious cabin According to the internal SP3i codename and development leaks, the next-gen Seltos may increase in length and width. The current Seltos measures 4,365 mm in length and 1,800 mm in width, and the new model may exceed these figures, resulting in better legroom and shoulder space. Big changes are expected inside the cabin also. New dashboard layout, new upholstery and more features can be found in 2026 Seltos. The biggest change could be the curved twin-screen setup — as seen in new Kia and Hyundai models — with two 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment system and digital cluster.
New transmission and hybrid option expected Engine options for India remain the same – 1.5-litre NA petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. However, a new 7-speed automatic transmission is expected for the diesel, which will replace the old 6AT. Globally, the 2026 Seltos will also come with a hybrid powertrain with an electric motor along with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, which will produce around 141 hp and 265 Nm of power. Whether this hybrid option will come to India or not remains to be seen, but Kia is keeping an eye on this fast-growing segment.
Possibility of safety upgrades Kia can also improve the ADAS features in the new Seltos. The current model has Level 2 ADAS features, and the facelift may bring better sensors, updated software and more features. Given the increasing focus on safety in the segment — especially with rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Grand Vitara, Hyrider, Elevate, Taigun, Kushaq and the upcoming Tata Sierra — Kia could further strengthen its safety offering.
India launch timeline While the global and India premiere will take place on December 10, the India launch is expected to take place in early 2026. Test mules have been seen during testing across the country, which shows that localization and pre-production validation is going on at a fast pace.
